That there are users who have more friends here than in real life?

i find it incredibly sad, as having online friends is never the same as having real friends

I have he same amount of people in real life and on here. I guess if it's sad, I'm only half pathetic.

Some of them, if not all of them, are probably uncomfortable or bad at real life social interaction so it's easier for them to make friends with people online. And honestly there isn't anything wrong with that. Friends are friends, regardless of distance. Like for example, I myself have a difficult time interacting with people, so I turned to the Internet and now my online friends are probably some of the best that I have ever had and I wouldn't trade them for anything the real world could give me. It might make life feel a little more lonely at times, but I wouldn't exactly call it sad.

It is easier make friends online as you have a new persona but there is also a chance of them being not them. Then again this can happen in real life but not as hard.

That is true. But that's when you use your Internet smarts and don't completely trust anyone until you're 100% certain that they are who they say they are.

I guess it is sad, depends on your perspective though, sometimes having friends online can help people and not always harm them socially, but people who have more friends online rather than irl usually don't have that great social skills, but I can't speak much because I'm not one of those people, but I can understand why some people use the internet as a source for friends rather than meeting people irl.

It's different for a lot of people, some people are just generally unsociable people, and make a different identity/persona online to make themselves feel better, and some people just can't find good friends irl,
eh.

I've been drifting apart from my internet friends now, since the gaming community I met most of them on has been dying and I've lost interest in their minecraft servers since then. I guess I have more real life friends.

Right now, as long as I have some people to talk to when I want to talk, I don't care. I do have some real-life friends, but I admit I'm just a bit more open and friendly on here. It's just something about being around other humans that prevents me from opening up fully.

Whoops I guess I'm doing life wrong.

The friends I make IRL tend to not want to bother keeping contact with me after we leave school/work/etc. I even asked a coworker on the last day if she wanted to keep contact and I just got a ".......naaaah no thanks". And before someone says "well find better friends", that's just how most people are here.
I wanted to make more friends in college but I can't afford it even after financial aid so they didn't let me go this semester. Maybe in January.

It's also largely about who I trust most. I have one or two IRL friends I can say I trust versus three or four here.

I hope I'm one, CAV. : )

My IRL friends greatly outweigh my online friends as of late. I really only have online friends from dS.

I used to talk to a lot of people on here and not have many friends IRL, but that's changed, I have many more friends IRL, and I only talk to SaS, who isn't even on dS anymore :/

If we count mere "friendly associates" as friends, then I have far more IRL.

If we're only counting real, true, loyal friends.......I still have more IRL.

I sometimes forget that Internet people are still people, which is why I don't care about offending them. I suppose I act like such a jerk here to cleanse my system, in that I won't bottle it up and hurt my actual friends.

I guess what I'm saying is that I really don't care about you all in comparison to my IRL friends. I know that's a horrible thing to say and I'm truly sorry, but......I don't know.

I can't say I don't care about people here, but I definitely do forget sometimes that people on here are real people with actual feelings.

I think I do have more friends IRL than here. I care about all of them equally, though obviously I can't spent time with my dS friends the way I do with my IRL friends.

Technically I have more friends here since my friend list has more names than my IRL friend list. But most of the people on my friend list are old users who have either been Ripto’d or have just simply vanished with the dusts of time and left the site. I have had only one new addition to my friend list since my comeback in 2012. And come to think of it I have had more conversations with people around here that are not officially on my friend list. I am just not that social and emotionally available even in the Internet forums. But my ca. handful of IRL friends are more like family members to me and I cherish them with all that I am.

But to the topic itself, I do not find it sad. As long as there is someone to whom one can open up and trust one’s own personal stuff and be open and vulnerable and get supportive feedback, there is something alright going on in one’s own individual life. And who knows if interacting here and making friends will help developing sense to seek friendship in real life as well. Eventually who am I to judge, if there are people fine with having more friends here than in real life, good for them.

I might give you more opinions... for a small fee of course.
