Disabilities/special needs [CLOSED]

I was just interested to know if anyone here has a disability and/or special need, whether physical or mental.

I have "numerical dyslexia", aka dyscalculia, which is a severe learning difficulty in maths. I can't do those mental maths questions that they make you answer in five seconds, up until I was 10 I couldn't use a number line properly, I only know my 2, 3, 5, 6, 9, 10 and 11 times tables and generally have to be careful when reading numbers because they get mixed around in my head (making it embarrassing when I'm made to read out mobile phone numbers etc.) ****in' sucks!

I also have dyspraxia (DCD//Developmental Co-ordination Disorder) which affects my hand-eye coordination, meaning tasks such as throwing/catching things, tying shoe laces, riding bikes/cars, telling my left from my right and balancing things are very difficult. I couldn't tie my laces until I was 12 and I still find it hard, and judging by how bad my DCD is right now I may never be able to drive smilie

Aaaaaand I'm partially blind in my left eye due to a birthmark on the back of my eyeball..if that counts smilie

Edit: I'm a maladaptive daydreamer and I think I may have PTSD :S

retinoblastoma =/= Cnacer in eyes. I only see 10% with one eye and only 5 with the other. They removed it on young age but the scars have left...well...scars

Astma or...however you spell it

Also, some form of Autism. Not sure what one though.

I am mentally also not the most stable one. :/

I'm a child with quite a good amound of problems. smilie

Nothing that I know of except for a minor vision problem where one of my eyes is stronger than the other.

Social Anxiety Disorder
The nurses suspect I have severe depression

I have most symptoms for Maladaptive Daydreaming, Border Line Personality Disorder, and Aspergers Syndrome. I don't have the money to afford a therapist/psychiatrist at the moment though so I can't really say with certain that I have them.

I also have major symptoms of Visual Snow (I need to talk with a specialist though)

Not sure if this counts as a disability but I was also diagnosed with Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease

Don't have anything to my knowledge, but my mother's best friend has a son who has William Syndrome. I babysat him a few times. He's a lovely kid, and I think the disability doesn't change the fact he is still capable of great things.

Asperger's Syndrome. It's a type of disease on the Autism scale. Honestly it's a disease where communication is hard for the person with the disease. Honestly if I wind up repeating myself on a subject, I feel like I am being misunderstood, which is why I don't like certain subjects.

Though tbh mines is pretty mild. The only problem with it for me is the slight communication difficulties. Probably because it lessens when you get older, but eh. There's something I want to say but also don't want to say about this. Eh, it's insignificant anyway(the thing I might've said)

I have TMJD.

If you don't mind me asking, what were your symptoms for that and how did you find out that that's what you have?
'Cause I've been wondering for awhile now whether I have that or not, but then I think it might just be from wisdom teeth but I'm not too sure.

I believe I have SED (Selective Eating Disorder), but it's getting better as I grow up.

Selective Eating Disorder is when a person can only eat a limited number of different foods (the list is usually shorter than 15); if they try to eat anything else, their body will physically reject it (gagging, vomiting, etc). Basically, these are the adults you hear of who only eat popcorn, hamburgers, and spinach pizza or something along those lines.

Research on the topic is still very, very new, so causes and treatments are currently unknown. Surprisingly, there seems to be no major physical/health problems associated with it; victims tend to be a little underweight, but otherwise, they're fine. The main conflicts are social and psychological; people with SED feel as though their eating habits separate them from "normal" people, and those who don't understand the disorder will definitely freak out over it.

Like I said, I've never been officially diagnosed so I don't know for sure, but if I do have it, it's gotten better with age. I eat a pretty good variety of foods now, I just had to sort of knuckle on through it. I'm nowhere near cured and probably never will be, but as long as I eat enough to keep myself moderately healthy, I think I'll be alright.

'Cause I've been wondering for awhile now whether I have that or not, but then I think it might just be from wisdom teeth but I'm not too sure.

Well, I woke up one morning and just out of the blue I had really bad pain in one side of my jaw, and I also couldn't open it all the way. It persisted for well over 24 hours, so I started to become concerned (i could barely open my mouth enough to get food in; chewing said food was a nightmare).

I told my mother, and we went to the doctor. Then she referred us to the dentist and said it might be an issue with my TMJ. He suspected at first it might be wisdom teeth, but he concluded it wasn't because I have no signs of them coming in. Afterwards, I was referred to an orthodontist, who officially diagnosed me with it.

Hmm.. I see. Thanks!

And I hope your jaw is feeling better~

I have horrible anxiety, the smallest things will get me started, but it's gotten much better, I haven't had a panic attack for about two months and sadly that's really almost the longest I've gone.
Apparently I'm showing symptoms of OCD but it's not too bad.

I have dermatographic urticaria, or skin writing. My skin is super sensitive so if I scratch it, a welt in the shape of the scratch forms and it itches for a while. It's much better now but it is certainly not gone. If I am not too rough, it will remain tame, but if I deliberately take a toothpick and write "moose" on my skin, I will have a big red itchy moose on my skin. It can be hindered with allergy medication but I never care to take it considering my condition is not nearly as bad as it used to be.

Nothing that I know of. Though, I have really bed memory sometimes. Like, every now and then, entire moments, usually from 3-4 minutes long each, will disappear from my memory. I know that I did stuff during that time, and the basic idea of what was done. Though, I can't imagine any visuals to go with the memory, or what was spoken or heard. This doesn't happen hardly at all these days though. The most recent time (today) all that happened was that I couldn't remember a single word that was said in class, and I had to ask later what i had missed. I remembered seeing the stuff the happened, but not what I heard.

They thought I was just terrible at maths until I was diagnosed aged 6. Dyscalculia is often confused for just being bad at maths but look up the symptoms if you're worried and get tested!

Thank you so much.

People refer to depression almost as an emotion, like "My last breakup made me depressed" or "I was depressed when my dog died." No. Sit your ass down and shut your ass up. Depression is a medical condition, and unless someone with a medical degree says you have it, YOU DON'T ****ING HAVE IT.

Also, it manifests in different ways for different people: my dad had extreme anger management issues for almost 3 years straight, coupled with poor sleeping cycles and eating habits. He had no idea what it was until we finally talked him into going to the doctor and sure enough, he was diagnosed with depression. He takes medication for it and now he's 100% better. So it's not always just a state of sadness or despair, really any persistent negative emotion could be a sign of clinical depression.

I think everyone gets depressed at times, and everyone has a few "this has to be right or else it bugs me" moments they call OCD. Unless you're diagnosed by a doctor about it, you don't definitely have it.

And how come everyone's so comfortable sharing their disabilities here?

It annoys me how people think just because whatever you happen to have is "getting better" it's not bad... It's still bad. When I tell someone "Oh, I haven't had a panic attack for two months" some of them will assume I'll never have one again, highly doubt that, and even more annoying are those people who think if you don't have "horrible" or "severe" anxiety it isn't bad... Wtf? Any sort of anxiety is horrible, no matter how bad you have it...

Oh I'm not depressed because of some simple thing. It's pretty complex and I honestly don't know where to start. There's a lot of it, believe me and it's still continuing to this day (My depression is not nearly as bad as it used to be, although some days I'll just feel useless).

I can tell though is that my life is slowly getting better and better.

The definition of depressed is prolonged extreme sadness (more or less, don't quote me on this). So, yes, everyone feels sadness, but typically not more than a few days. Depression is longer, spanning weeks, months, even years

In my case, Dermatitis and Asthma (the latter I am not certain I have and if I do, it's merely in a developing phase) feel less like disabilities, and more like inhibiting conditions that need treatment every so often. So I don't even think "disability" is the right term for them. They have more in common with diseases than anything (but they are not actually diseases).

When I think disability, I think of a literal inability to do something like a normal person (be it mental or physical), like being entirely unable to walk, for example. Dermatitis and Asthma are just inhibited skin vitality and inhibited breathing respectively. They don't make it impossible to do something, though. Asthma means it's harder for you to breathe and depending on how bad it is, your bronchus may close up sometimes and require you to quickly take your inhaler (otherwise, you could die from lack of oxygen). Dermatitis just means my skin is all chapped, itchy, and sore in the places I have it, and it's actually linked to Asthma (part of the reason my doctor suspects I may be developing Asthma). That needs to be treated with cream. It doesn't make doing anything harder per se, but I tend to be more careful and cover up more than others when in extreme temperatures or when near sharp objects, as the parts of my skin with the Dermatitis can be cut more easily (despite being rough).
