Ever since the 2nd Sonic game there had not been a game that has not featured Tails as Sonics companion. You can argue that this is not SEGAs game and Nintendo has a right to just have Sonic but, it shouldn't be so different.

This statement is sort of false and is an opinion. You claim nobody cares, I do and so dose IGN. Toad compared to Sonic is more like Cream the Rabbit witch I can understand. I'll admit I've never played Sonic 4 Episode 2, but that's just 1 game.

Compare that to the rest of the franchise. Sonic Colours, Sonic Lost World, Sonic Unleashed and some others are Sonic games where Tails is the only character alongside Sonic (besides Amy and Knuckles). (looking back on it now I feel pretty dumb that I didn't pick up on the Sonic 4 thing.)

Tbh I just don't think it'll happen. It'd be nice (for me at least) to see Tails as an official character in Smash, but Sonic is already in and won't be getting out any time soon. All the 3rd party series so far all have only one rep, so unless Nintendo decides to change this then I just can't see Tails in this game. But hey, maybe if enough people ask for Tails then they might just change the rules.

Tails is one of the all time famous sidekicks in gaming and is often seen as one of the only side characters in the Sonic franchise that's in any way decent (sometimes people consider Knuckles too but that's it). Tails was at least important enough to star in two (admittedly middling) spinoff games, and remains a main fixture of all things Sonic to this day. He's practically the Robin of video games. With that in mind I think it's very reasonable to think that Tails (or even Knuckles) could show up in Smash Bros.

That said, I don't think Tails would make it into the game simply because they seem to want to add representatives from different franchises for these third party companies (Ryu getting in instead of another Mega Man character, and Tekken costumes over anything Pac Man related). If Sega got another rep it would be from another franchise besides Sonic.

EDIT: Also Captain Toad exists.

Again, I don't get this assumption that Sonic can't get a second rep.

Ryu didn't get in because they needed a second Capcom rep, he got in because he's THE fighting game character. All fighting game fans know who he is, so they put him in. The fact he happens to be a Capcom character has nothing to do with it, that's just a coincidence/side effect of having him in the game.

The Tekken and Virtua Fighter costumes were also used because they wanted to represent the other big fighting games in some fashion, who once again, happen to be owned by companies that already have reps in the game. That's just coincidence. If some other big company owned those franchises, they would still try to get them in.

And if you want to go by notability, other Mega Man characters don't have a huge following (except for maybe Zero from Mega Man X), and are not too different from Mega Man anyway. Everyone knows Mega Man, but not everyone knows Protoman, Bass, etc. Everyone knows Ryu though, so he makes sense for a second Capcom rep.

SEGA is on the opposite end of the spectrum. Their other IPs besides Sonic are hardly a blip on the radar anymore except for some PC and mobile stuff. Heck, franchises like NiGHTS and Billy Hatcher can't hope for much better than a cameo appearance in a Sonic game these days. However, everyone knows Tails, Knuckles, Amy, Shadow, Metal Sonic, and Dr. Eggman. What's more, Sonic and Mario already share a crossover series, and Sonic Lost World had Nintendo themed DLC. So I highly doubt a second SEGA rep is happening unless they do put in one of the famous Sonic characters.

There's Bayonetta, though I'm not sure if she's a SEGA or Nintendo character at this point. And Bayonetta 2, while critically well received, it didn't exactly make waves and the character isn't very well known, so I don't see her happening. She also has the issue of her most iconic attacks literally requiring her to strip nude.

All my under 3 minute Amiibo wins.

BTW for everyone who said that Tails would never make it in, it said on the fighter ballot that if enough people vote, then they will most likely put that character in, so if lots of people vote Tails, then they'd bring him in regardless.

I also had a bunch of external hindrances (had to play on GamePad, for one), but it's whatever. I don't wanna sound like I'm johnning, especially when I won most of the matches.

For those that play Smash Wii U, what controller do you use, and why? I use the Gamepad because of it's similar layout to the 3ds, of which I played on for hours before the Wii U release, so I kinda adjusted to it.
