I ask this because, I think so. I think, like Windows XP, Windows 7 will be around for quite awhile, even after the OS is no longer supported.
Here's some stats.
From August-2014-July 2015, Windows XP still made up for 12.08% of worldwide Web usage. (SOURCE: http://gs.statcounter.com/#des...1408-201507-bar) Considering how many people use the Internet, this is still a LOT of people to use Windows XP. Keep in mind that (with some exceptions*) Windows XP's mainstream support ended on April 14th, 2009, and extended support ended on April 8th, 2014.
Windows 7's mainstream support ended on January 13th, 2015, and extended support ends on January 14th, 2020 (whether this date moves is TBD).
Even with the free upgrade to Windows 10, I still don't think some people will upgrade. People, as is regularly documented, don't like change. They like Windows 7, and don't want to upgrate to Windows 8/8.1 or 10.
I think that Windows 7 will be the next Windows XP (and Windows 98 before that) in that it'll be around for a long time, even after it's support ends. What do you think?
*Exemptions include:
Windows XP Embedded: SP3, which extended support ends on January 12th, 2016, and mainstream support ended on January 11th, 2011.
Windows Embedded Standard 2009, which extended support ends on January 8th, 2019, and mainstream support ended on January 14th, 2014.
Windows Embedded POSReady 2009, which extended support ends on April 9th, 2019, and mainstream support ended on April 8th, 2014.

I had Windows 8.1, and upgraded to Windows 10
I really wished I hadn't for different reasons, and so far, Windows 7 is still my favourite |

Windows 10 was sorta a disappointment for me, I like that the "classic" Start Menu is back, but the rest is mostly changes I could live without I don't remember much from XP, but 7 is far superior to 8/8.1/10 in my opinion |

For me, I'm going to be keeping my laptop at Windows 7. I, personally, never found much appeal in the way Windows 8 is organized, and as with most OS jumps, I have a feeling that much of the stuff I use regularly on this laptop will be horribly incompatible with Windows 10. (Some of the things in question weren't even designed for 7 as it is.)
It is also for this same reason that I have a desktop with Windows XP, there are programs on there that do not work with 7 (and they behave strangely in a virtual machine as well). But to each their own, I suppose. |

Very likely. 7 seems to be universally liked by all (I think I'm the only person I know who had issues with it) and while 8.1 ironed out some issues people seem to stick to the guns of 7. I think it says something when the DOE computers skew 8 and 10 and almost universally use 7 (save for the few that still use XP).
Also very interesting to see that they have everything scheduled for when each OS will lose all support. Windows 10 is already set to end mainstream support in 2020 and extended support in 2025. Also Vista is still trucking along with extended support not ending until 2017, giving me some time to save up for a new desktop. |

Once I put it on my laptop it went completely downhill. Everything slowed down and took a massive hit (the laptop was from 2007 mind you). I also feel like it ate my battery more than Vista.
But that could've also just been my laptop getting old and buggy. |

My computer has given me a notification to upgrade to 10, but I'm gonna keep 7. If it ain't broke, don't fix it... That's what I live by. I still love 7, soooo.. :/

I've heard that upgrading from Vista to 7 could be a nightmare to some people, so that could be it. Hell, I've upgraded from Windows ME to Windows 2000 easier sometimes.

No way I am getting 10. I like my OS shiny-looking and not hipster flat
I might just be iffy due to my experience with 8. The story goes that my mother took out our old computer room to make it my room, and gave us laptops with 8 on them instead. And holy crap 8 was awful. It really works way better with a touch screen, which I didn't have. I couldn't stand it, especially since with my old PC I was JUST becoming a PC gamer. I tried getting GMod on my laptop, it crashed EVERY time. Eventually my dad decided that they really did suck, and got my sister and I both Windows 7 PCs with awesome processors for Christmas, which I'm extremely thankful for. And now I've become a PC Gamer thanks to this thing. TL R: Windows 8 sucks without a touch screen and 7 makes you into a PC gamer

Windows 7 is probably the "gamer" PC OS of choice, isn't it?

Absolutely. It came out between the not-so-hot Vista and Windows 8, so its not surprising if people cling on to it.
