Very interesting message and lyrics. Sure, I done algebra at school but I only left a few months ago and I've already forgot the majority of it, why do we not receive education on life skills such as financial advice and parenting?

Agree with this video.
Obviously not saying to drop out of school, but it provides a good message, one that I agree with :/

The idea of school is a good one, however, it doesn't teach anything useful. When am I going need to know how to diagram a sentence in everyday life? I would like to know, however, how to write a balance a check or how to change a tire? Something I'm going to need, something I might need to rely on one day. :V

So much agree.
I mean, they tell us so much is useful, but there's all that way more useful stuff.
I did have a finance class but it told us like nothing. Here calculate a cost for your life using this completely random wage. Also, we won't include everything you need.

When will I need to know how much a carbon atom weighs I mean seriously.
Or a lot of the math we learn. I mean some is useful, but some of the stuff is completely pointless.
And don't get me started on English/History classes. Completely useless. English in elementary is good I suppose.

At least it's a good atmosphere at my school.. And some good people.

Try being in my state, they make sure you do less reading and history and SO MUCH math and science. it sucks.

Well I've learned like nothing since elementary -

Some element names and symbols (I mean maybe useful for a science career but I don't want that kind of science as a career)
A few formulas (Most useful of this bunch, but not in the way we use them. I have to edit them to fit my use, and they say nothing of that kind of stuff. And graphing - how useless is graphing? The graph makes it harder to understand the data, and it's confusing to put it in the graph. I mean some tables work well, but for most nice tables a spreadsheet works, so I don't need real formulas for that. How about teach us complex things in spreadsheet programs?)
A few worthless words (When am I gonna use words like that if people won't understand?)
A little useless geography (When am I going to need to know a capital of wherever or where Turkmenistan is or anything like that?)

And such minimal Spanish there's like no way my other year will make it enough to know the language well.

Here in NY (or maybe just NYC) high school the umbrella course of "history" is completed over all four years. The final year comprises of Government and Economics. They may not cover just about everything you would want (really it depends on the teacher) but it does cover a decent bit on the different systems and how they work, including the stock market that he mentions.

Also I may have just had a special case, being in an accelerated program by the end, but I was given an online course for Personal Finance, which included things like taxes, budgeting, insurance, credit scores, and proper banking. You can try asking your school if they offer something like that.

Also also Crash Course on Youtube has done a series on Economics. And while I haven't yet started it, I have trust in them that what they teach will apply to some degree in real world situations (though of course don't rely on them 100%). And they've been doing history and government for years now.

That said, I otherwise agree with the video in that certain courses shouldn't be necessary for a general education. In fact I think they should have more specialized or customized courses starting in high school rather than college.

On the subject there's an interesting video related to the subject of how and what we may learn.

I agree, but at the same time i can somewhat see why school teaches us some of these things.

That's one of the reasons why I'm looking forward to college - I'm studying one specified subject and don't have to cover the whole spectrum of courses like I had to in school. The majority of subjects that I did are completely useless to me, we were even forced into taking GCSEs for subjects in which we had no interest in - for example, I was forced into doing French - a subject in which I'm hopeless at, no matter how much studying I done, I couldn't do it. Sure, after 5 hour long nights of studying some went into my head but when it came to the final exam, I fear that I failed.

I done nothing at school to do with what I want to do in the future (game design) I have had to learn the basics at home, in my free time. I chose IT as an option at GCSE but all we done was business studies in the course, hardly anything to do with computers. When I finished my work, I asked my teacher if I could research game design courses for college and use some of the software and on school's computer, I was expecting a reasonable answer, instead she asked me to come to her desk and shouted at me for five minutes as "it won't help me in life" (even though that's where I want to pursue in my future). Anyway, rant over. I'm done with school, never have to step foot in there again.

^I envy your college and system. At least here in NY the first year or two of college is STILL covering the same **** I already did in high school.

I'd much rather just focus on what I want to do instead. Not continue algebra or calculus which was a continued problem for me since middle school.

Wow, that was a surprisingly good video.

The education system in the U.S. is geared far more toward making money off of the business of teaching useless standardized info than it is toward creating a new generation of productive citizens. And it doesn't stop with high school, since most people who go to college never actually use their degree. All it does is put them into debt for the rest of their lives.

US education system (which varies by state mind you) also puts a lot of focus on standardized tests, with higher averages meaning better reputation and perhaps more funding.

NY still uses the Regents, a standardized test system that is obsolete for the entire rest of the country (save for maybe one other state?). And they mean **** all for your record or chances of applying to colleges unless they're in the CUNY/SUNY systems.

EDIT: Turns out the Regents are entirely a NYS creation. No other state in the country has this. So it's useless everywhere else, yet so much importance and pressure is put on students here to pass them.

In AUS where I live you have to choose Eng and Math but it's in degrees, (from hardest to easiest, Math C, Math B, Math A, Prevoc Math - Senior ENG, ENG Com, and I forgot the last.) I don't think school sucks but I wish they would stop being so serious about everything. "you have to pass this otherwise you'll never get into Uni."

This is a very true statement, Along with the rest too, but that last one can plainly be seen in life
