Might be a bit too early to tell, but that gives a lot of space for imagination - as we've heard these last two days, the Wii and 3DS versions will have entirely new tracks - over 15 according to the official social media. But here's the thing - the tracks in the main games seem to be based off of existing levels(Chompy Garden seems to be based on the farm level, Dragon Spire is based on Cloudbreather Dragon, etc) without being exactly those areas. So what those 15 new ones will be about, especially if they're not from Trophies?

All we've seen for now has been a screenshot of a volcanic area in the 3DS version.
Seems generic enough, but it got me thinking... Could they be based off of existing levels in the series too, kinda like most other racing spinoffs out there? That could mean we could be looking at Lava Lakes Railway or Fire Flow Valley, even! ...Might be too much to expect from Beenox, sure, but after SF and TT 3DS they've shown they can make do with the capabilities of the handheld for some pretty amazing level design; Toadstool Terrace,Hugo's Nightmare and Down the River come to mind.

Oh, I was looking at a cut pic, it's not JUST a volcanic area. Here are the only screenshots of the 3DS version:




Now that theory of being all nostalgia levels is out of the window, but the second one could be any forest level really and a few original ones don't exactly mean that they won't do the same as the main games.

That's Frozen Fossil Festival which is on the main games, you can see the intro in the IGN footage, based on Boney Islands.

What I'm wondering is if there will be a hub, and if it will have on-foot gameplay in the hub (sort of like Crash Tag Team Racing), or if it will just be a list of tracks you can choose from like Mario Kart.

There is a hub, Skylanders Academy is back.

I didn't fully understand your question

The question is if there's a hub in the 3DS/Wii versions. Since they said it'll be all about racing not too sure, but the 3DS had mechanics of saving the characters only once to the file so it might have something simple so you can change them around.

Huh. Actually looks pretty cool.

Well, there's 2 of each to start off in the starter pack, which has been mentioned and shown in various videos. Air will be Cloud Kingdom and Calamity Canyon. Land will be the Dragon spine & one other, then you have two Sea.

This is the 3DS version we're talking about, which has 15 completely new tracks.

I am expecting some good tracks to represent the elements and terrains justly. The fire-and-ice sky track looks great, so I am hoping for more original tracks rather than just nods to levels from past games. Not that I am against them, just would like to see what they come up with on their own.

On a side note, I would like to see them do something with a cyberpunk theme. I can see it fitting in with a light or magic based track; maybe for sky, so you feel like you are flying through space, or something.
Perhaps that sounds like an easy rip-off of Rainbow Road, but I think they could make it truly special and original using elements of the Skylander world.

We can see what they come up on their own in SF and TT3DS, Beenox did those while porting the console games to nextgen and where they're good it's pretty good.
