How do you all feel about Otherkin? [CLOSED]

No! How many times do I have to tell you!? I'm a car, I feel it in my soul!

Just kidding... maybe. ;P

Anyways, seems as if history is repeating itself, it's like the wolfaboos of 2007 and 2008 have returned, but not on deviantART. Psychologically and biologically, it does explain reasons for this phenomenon occuring, but nevertheless it still weird when you see how obsessed and adamant others become when they truly think they're another species. In the end, it's still their own choice. Which I'm fine with as long as I'm not forced into believing you are who you apparently claim to be.

EDIT: Keep in mind y'all, otherkin isn't the Tumblr bull**** you see. It's a spiritual belief where you have a spiritual connection with an animal, theorizing that in a past life you were said animal.

Not any of this bull**** "hi!!! i'm bun and i'm bunnykin!!!!!! my pronouns are bun/buns/bunself!!!!!!!!!" or "i identify as plantkin and people mowing their lawns is genocide!" It's an actual spiritual belief, not that cutesy Tumblr crap.

It just sets me really wrong to call all otherkin "crazy" and stuff like that. The way I see it, it's comparable to calling Christians crazy for believing in God. It's a belief, and it's not okay to call people insane just for believing in something you think is impossible (unless it's like, some extremist evangelist saying that video games are proven to convert people to satanism or someone not getting their kid vaccinated because they think vaccines cause autism).

I'm not even otherkin, I'm agnostic (and won't believe in otherkin unless reincarnation is solidly proven), but would it kill everyone to be a little less ready to call someone crazy for something like that?

Just so long as they aren't using the belief as an excuse to harm others (or do things like swallow jewelry oh god have you seen that post) why is it such a huge deal?

I REALLY don't believe in this sub-category of otherkin where people identify as real people that's when it gets way too far.
I forgot what it was called

Factkin. It's almost like identity theft, ugh. It's the only part of otherkin that I refuse to accept or tolerate under any circumstances; it's 100% certified Tumblr bull****.

I agree completely with the bolded part.

They do make a very good point. My view has been changed.

Hey is there anything you want me to bring for the rest of the week and if so it’s so cool that you can do something and just do it like that

Tbh I wasn't fully aware that it was a legit belief, so thank you for clarifying that. That being said, I don't have a huge problem with it if they actually think they're connected to that certain animal through reincarnation. I don't believe in reincarnation myself but if that's their belief then fine.
My concern is the people who think they're legitimately a (animal name here) trapped in a human's body when it's not even connected to reincarnation, or those who think they're really fantasy creatures or fictional characters or something.. and I'm sure there are those who think like that. It's almost like extreme roleplay that is being taken too seriously. I mean it's one thing to pretend, but some people take it too far. I don't really know much about the subject, but to me it sounds like a cry for attention or like others have said an identity crisis, and if that's the case then they should probably seek some sort of help.

I agree with Baro. While I am not an "Otherkin", I find it obnoxious how people are always so ready to attack and destroy anything that they don't agree with.
It's stupid, at least in my eyes, and heavily immature. Like seriously.

a lot of you make think I'm stupid for asking this but

whats otherkin

A spiritual belief where you believe in a past life you were not human. It ties into reincarnation. People feel a connection with a creature and theorize that in a past life they were that creature.

Oh

That sounds completely ridiculous

No problem.

Yeah, as Carm said in an earlier post people who think that sort of thing are actually harming themselves.

Though I'm a bit neutral on fictionkin? I used to be VERY against it, but then I realized that some people with identity issues can use that belief to get a better understanding of themselves. It's a weird way of doing it, but if it's what helps them get through, then I just let them do them and let it be.

But if they shove it down my throat, that's where I draw the line. That goes for every belief though.

Well, I must've been doing a good job then a year or two ago....*~*'

True true.

Huh, I didn't think about it like that. That's a good point.

And yes, agreed.

I don't care what people believe. You can think you are a toaster for all I care. But when you want me to call you a toaster, and shove it down my throat, I lose respect for you. Same thing with religion. You can worship lord of potatoes, but once you want to convert me to worship the lord of potatoes, I lose all respect for you.
