I honestly kind of agree. I try my best to be accepting, but it's just not something I can accept.

They can believe what they want. And although there's no evidence that their claims are true, there is no evidence that their claims are false. They're just as likely reincarnated as they are not reincarnated.


TL:DR - I am OK with them, and I think their claims could be true.

Honestly I think people who identify as otherkin are just going through an identity crisis. It's usually young people who do it too, so that would explain it.

While I agree they have a right to believe that if they want to, they absolutely are not just as likely to be telling the truth. When there's no evidence for something, it's not a 50/50 chance just because you can't prove them wrong. It's on them to prove their claims as factual.

Pretty much sums up my feelings on the matter. Mostly seems to be young people on tumblr who think they legit are some other animal trapped or fictional character (even dumber) in a human body. Like what.... Likely some phase they're going through along with all the other crazy things tumblr users claim to be.

I find otherkin to just mostly be attention-whoring Tumblr people who probably have a mental disorder. I'm sorry but it's my opinion and please respect it.

But seriously, they need to face reality. You're human, you're not a freaking dragon or wolf or whatever, and I don't believe in the spiritual stuff either.

Same for fictionkin and every other stupid Tumblr "kin". Seriously, what the heck is "spacekin"??

Honestly, I don't really buy into it. I feel like people who go through it are either suffering some sort of identity crisis, or are making it up to try and feel like a special snowflake in a world where they may not feel unique by just being them.
Or maybe they just really like something and take it to an extreme by believing they are that something.

Either way, I feel as though loads of people trying to act special or have crisiseseses in this manner can potentially undermine people with actual legitimate cases (gender identity, hell even sexuality), with some people putting it all under the same umbrella and calling it crazy. It also serves to give tumblr a further negative reputation, since this is where it seems to be most common.

EDIT: Then again maybe in 50 years time we're going to be sitting here supporting and fighting for otherkin rights or something. The world tends to progress that way.

Otherkin was something invented by Tumblr so that they can feel even more special than they already do. However, I have nothing against it besides the fact that it feels insane to me at the time. Like CAV said, there's no way of telling if otherkin could become a big political thing but to me it is just harmless roleplay.

Just don't ask me to pretend you are a lizard. Because I will not play along.

Not true. The belief that humans have a spiritual connection with animals is deeply rooted in many indigenous Native American and Sub-Saharan African religions and cultures.

Which is why I feel that Otherkin is stupid: Tumblr kids are making a mockery out of something incredibly sacred, and have no idea what they're really talking about. They're asshats.

Popularized would be a better word. The SJ part of Tumblr is a cesspool of hatred and hypocrisy, so an idea of mocking ancient cultures (intentional or not) easily caught on there.

Pretty much what he said, I haven't seen otherkin older than mid-20s or so -- save for the occasional lolcow or manchild.

I don't care if someone identifies WITH an animal/mystical creature/Walgreen's Gift Card. Otherkin who identify AS those things put themselves in a dangerous place, the mind is a powerful thing.

I honestly have been going through "Small" Episodes before when it comes down to this subject... Maybe I'm still doing it. I don't realy know honestly.

TBH, I don't have much of an opinion on it. If somebody wants to do something then it's thier choise.

I identify as tree-kin and I get so triggered when i see people picking off of fruit trees or making treehouses because that's cultural appropriation and actually borderline abusive to the tree.
I have to battle everyday knowing I will never bear the skin of bark like my bretheren, I will never hold their ancient tongue to have a conversation with other trees and I will never be able to reproduce much like a tree.
So, friendly reminder (u‿u✿), that having trees in your backyard is imprisonment, it's like keeping a human chained up to the ground in your backyard.

I completely understand. An animal isn't a gender. A gender is something like male, female, trans for either, genderfluid, ect. Not a ****ing wolf.

Seriously though, I don't think it's a huge deal. Let people believe what they want to believe, as long as they aren't hurting anyone. It's not like the concept of "otherkin" is any sillier or less factual than a lot of the dogma taught by the world's major religions. Only difference is the amount of people who believe it. I mean...it's considered weird to think you're spiritually a dog, but not weird to believe that a piece of bread is spiritually some dead guy from 2000 years ago?

At least the otherkin don't come door to door handling out pamphlets. Not yet, anyway.

It just sets me really wrong to call all otherkin "crazy" and stuff like that. The way I see it, it's comparable to calling Christians crazy for believing in God. It's a belief, and it's not okay to call people insane just for believing in something you think is impossible (unless it's like, some extremist evangelist saying that video games are proven to convert people to satanism or someone not getting their kid vaccinated because they think vaccines cause autism).

I'm not even otherkin, I'm agnostic (and won't believe in otherkin unless reincarnation is solidly proven), but would it kill everyone to be a little less ready to call someone crazy for something like that?

Just so long as they aren't using the belief as an excuse to harm others (or do things like swallow jewelry oh god have you seen that post) why is it such a huge deal?

I'm fine with otherkin. I'll poke fun at them every once in a while but I don't think they're bad people. It's not like they're hurting others by indentifying as one.

The only kin I absolutely will NOT accept it Factkin, which is identifying as a real person. That is identify theft. That can actually make people really uncomfortable, to the point where I've seen people post selfies and tag/caption it as "Do not tag this as kin".
