Why does no one ever talk about the time that the U.S. rounded up Japanese soldiers from the western America and threw them into concentration camps?

Because we blame everything on Hitler when it comes to WWII. He didn't want to kill Jews and didn't hate Jews yet we still blamed everything on him. Yet we still do the same thing and sweep it under the rug. AMERICA **** YEAH!

People do being it up, mainly as evidence of FDR being "tolerant."

I did learn a lot about it in a history course I just took, I suppose it's not widley talken about because they didn't consider it an oppresive act? We didn't do anything to them(pain wise), and some of those Japanese actually volunteered into the army so they could give their people a good name and prove loyalty to the US. REGARDLESS I think it was a stupid way to make sure there wasn't any Japanese spies and it was super oppressive. I think it should be talked about more.

In the 8th grade, we had an entire unit based around this book.
TBH, I can honestly understand why no one really talks about it, The US wasn't brutal like the German concentration camps.

We need to bring it up more, because I bet my bottom dollar that the extreme right-wingers will propose doing it to Muslims pretty soon. Especially if a Tea Party candidate wins the 2016 election (which is highly unlikely, but still).

We had concentration camps, but did we use them to slaughter anyone like what the Nazi's did in WW2?

No. Mostly just imprisonment. Which is why they're commonly called "internment camps." Still not good, though. Still a part of our history that needs to be addressed. |

I'd just like to remind everyone that they were called "Interment camps" not "concentration camps" huge difference between the two.

although they weren't concentration camps, they weren't well maintained and quite a few people died from the general neglect of "prisoners". it was pretty much ran like a military prison. my great-grandparents were in one, actually.

We do. Fairly often, really. I tend to see it mentioned almost all the time when discussing the war between the US and Japan.
It's just overshadowed because the concentration camps run by Nazis have a much larger body count. |
