Let's look out for the next Spyro Game, if it is unofficial or not. Because It could be announced any time and who knows, the unofficial drawings could turn out to be the next Game.

Forgotten, I know you want a new Spyro game, most of us do. But there are no leads to a new Spyro game, since Spyro is in Skylanders now.

If there is ever a Spyro game, we'll be made known of it. Don't hold onto whatever fangame or whatever screenshot you see thrown around and cling to it like your life depends on it. Fake leaks are the easiest of baits for mascot franchises.

Hey, I am unsure if I remember this correctly, but did Activision say that if Skylanders was a success they'd give Spyro his own game? Was that true or is my memory being faulty (it often is so I'm not surprised if I've gotten this wrong)?

How I remember reading that interview was "if Spyro is popular enough, we may consider giving him his own game." In the same way if say, Sunburn got popular enough, he might have gotten his own game. Not sure if it was a way to shut up fans, or just a diplomatic "nothing's impossible" answer that a lot of people took to mean "if Skylanders succeeds, Spyro gets his own game. 100% confirmed."

Granted, I have no idea where that interview is now, so my memory might be off, too.

^ I want a Stealth Elf game right now, then. :D

Am I the only one that read the OP as being completely facetious? Because it seriously reads like Forgotten is taking the piss out of everyone who starts screaming about the "new Spyro game" every time someone posts fan art.

Hey, I would want a new Spyro game myself, but right now, Deo is the best bet we're going to get, even if the character isn't anywhere CLOSE to a dragon. Other games with good gliding are Batman: Arkham Knight and the upcoming Yooka-Laylee, but I would agree that there's going to have to be a new Spyro game eventually. I browse Reddit sometimes, and just went to the Spyro section recently to see that some of these people still clamor on and on, begging for a new Spyro game.

I kind of just want a new dragon game that isn't super serious/bloody all over. It's not classic Spyro gameplay that necessarily does it for me, it's the fun characters and worlds and also dragons. Someone out there, I hope, will make a bright fun game about a dragon again someday. Freedom Planet kinda counts, I suppose. Lilac IS a dragon... :)

Off-topic, but I actually thought she was a cat when I first saw her... If someone told me that she wasn't without clarifying what she is supposed to be, I wouldn't guess she was a dragon.

Freedom Planet looks like a fun game but I find the character designs (outside of the green cat, don't know her name) pretty unappealing... Lilac reminds me of some old, awful LoS OCs, because of her hair. >.>

Probably because it's a really minimalistic design, other dragon designs in the game are much more elaborate in comparison. But yeah Freedom Planet is super fun and amazingly dark from what I saw in LPs, but it's nowhere close to a Spyro spiritual sucessor - it's actually more about the Treasure games.

The reason Lilac looks a bit un-dragony is because she was originally a hedgehog OC for a game that was a Sonic fan game. The creators decided to make Freedom Planet an original title and changed Lilac's species in the process, but her design isn't very different from the original version.

I know about that. Either way, though, I just find the colours ugly- I can't pinpoint why I think so, but the saturation seems off and the colours don't look very interesting together- and everything on her appears too basic.

Sonic had a basic design too- but the original Sonic design was so good because it made his attitude clear (not to mention it was really expressive). I don't get any feeling for an interesting or cool personality by looking at Lilac's design. Don't know what her personality is actually like, but I think a character's design should give some interesting impression of their personality, which I just can't see.

But I'm just veering this more off-topic, so eh...

To each their own. :) I'm quite fond of Lilac's design myself and it does fit her personality (kind of girly, pretty tough). But I confess that I've never liked Sonic's design or the Sonic franchise in general. Freedom Planet is the game that solved every problem I've always had with the blue hedgehog and his games. XD

Eh, this topic probably needed derailing. It was just more of the usual desperate grasping at things the Spyro franchise is not likely to ever be again. We've had an endless stream of those topics since 2011.

Funny thing is I'm getting the feeling that streams of these kinds of topics led to Yu Suzuki realizing that he should release Shenmue III, since the fans just wouldn't pipe down about Shenmue II never getting its sequel.

Something like that may have helped in the launch of that Kickstarter, but Shenmu is a vastly more popular series than Spyro ever was. It helps that Shenmu is headed by a smaller creative team that owns the franchise. Spyro is owned by a large corporation that doesn't care about a small, generally obnoxious fanbase. Keep in mind that the one time they did pander to Spyro fans, they got nothing but more complaints.

Sony and a dev team that loves their series very much is different from Acti and the original devs having no suggestions on what could happen to the IP, if they're in the same company at all. Our oldest known devs that are still working in the game at the time are the Shadow Legacy and LOS writers, and even they're only around for the TFB games since David A. Rodriguez took over the VV ones. Shenmue didn't really hop between 3-4 different companies during the last two decades unlike Spyro, so it's not as big of a mess.

Actually, the first three Spyro games all sold way better than Shenmue. So Spyro was definitely more popular back then. Unfortunately other factors have caused Shenmue to develop a larger cult status in modern times.

1. Enter the Dragon (and the loss of Insomniac) caused a lot of fans to give up on the Spyro series, because quite frankly it was a shoddy game.

2. Ratchet & Clank was basically a spiritual successor to Insomniac's Spyro games and absorbed a lot of Spyro's fans.

3. Skylanders has now absorbed the Spyro series, and has cultivated a much different fanbase from the one that used to follow classic Spyro.

And yet, even in spite of all of those things....part of me thinks that a new Spyro game developed by Insomniac would still be extremely successful as a Kickstarter. But ONLY if it was developed by Insomniac, mind you.

Speaking of developers, VV actually did work on a "Classic Spyro" game, although it's one not generally remembered: Spyro Orange/Spyro Fusion for the GBA. It's really more of a Crash game where you play as Spyro (2D platforming, no gliding or charging, blatantly minigame based - although Classic Spyro had the last, too), but it did predate Shadow Legacy.

Pulling out my copy, Bala, who's been interviewed about Superchargers, was the CEO back then. Don't know how much other overlap it has, since I don't have everyone memorized, but it's a thing.

It's clearly not something they're proud of, since early interviews about the 3DS version of SSA, one of the people interviewed mentioned that they had experience making platformers because they made GBA Crash games when asked a question that they could easily have said they've worked on a Spyro game on.

It's understandable, though, since Orange isn't good. It's okay, it's not glitchy, but the game design isn't very fun. The story is something a child could come up with (Oh no! The two most recurring badguys of Spyro and Crash have teamed up and pit the heroes against each other! But, they didn't expect the heroes to randomly become friends after fighting each other!), and the minigames range from easy to difficult to my-thumbs-hurt-from-mashing-too-fast, with most of the fun ones only unlocking after you've already beaten the game (and likely want nothing to do with it anymore). And did I mention you have to beat all the minigames on hard difficulty to even reach the final boss?

I've always found it somewhat ironic that the company that made the least Spyro-y Classic Spyro game makes the most Classic Spyro-y Skylanders games. SSA3DS is actually a platformer, Swap Force has a similar feel to YotD to me, and Superchargers reminds me of the vehicle-heaviness of EtD.

If, like Yooka-Laylee, It were to be made on Kickstarter by the original team, i.e Insomniac, then I would give it a chance, but it'd probably very different from the classic series and more like Ratchet & Clank. Plus, Insomniac has stated before it doesn't have any plans for Spyro, so I'm wasting my time here smilie. We've got Skylanders, and Activision is going to stick with what we have.
Also, about the fan games and unofficial art becoming the next spyro game? I keep hearing about things like this, HD remakes, collection remakes, fan games, and seriously things like that are most unlikely, in my opinion. I mean, I'm not trying to be rude, but don't hold out for those kinds of ideas.

Fangames?Either C&Ded or cancelled due to lack of interest or even internal issues; I've heard some projects with way more conflict between the team than you'd expect from fans.
