He'd been sick for a while. Still a tragedy, though.

I wonder if Miyamoto will become CEO now.

He died on the 11th, today is the 12th.

Also topic already exists but I think this should be an exception. It truly was a sad Saturday for Nintendo, let heaven treat him well.

They didn't say who would take over but the following was said
Nintendo said it has not decided on who the next president will be, but its two other directors Mr Miyamoto and Genyo Takeda will jointly run the company.
I think Mr. Miyamoto would make a great CEO

such an early age to die at. Most deaths this early usually are a result of cancer or tumors

He didn't join Nintendo until 2002.

You're probably thinking of Shigeru Miyamoto.

He didn't necessarily create all of the best games ever, but he did play a significant role in games like Earthbound, Pokemon Gold/Silver, and a good few Kirby titles.

He was even listed as Executive Producer on so many titles even after his programming days were done, with his last credit being on Fire Emblem: Awakening. Of course, for all we know Executive Producer may not have a lot of involvement in direct development, but it also at least shows that even when he was CEO he cared about the games they were putting out rather than just the economic bottom line.

Just when I thought Awakening couldn't get any more sentimental for me...
Also noted, when most of Nintendo thought FE was dead, he worked with Intelligent Systems and put a lot of time and effort into getting Awakening out.

Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo are all competitors but at the same time there has to be some form of mutual respect. If Sony paid their respects I don't see why Microsoft wouldn't.

R.I.P. Satoru Iwata

EDIT: Someone just pointed this out on youtube..... The puppets at E3 was because Iwata didn't want us to see him in his sickly state, and Super Mario Maker was made so we can make Mario adventures that people can enjoy just like Iwata did....

Dammit I'm choking up. I don't even know the man in person, but he would talk to me in every direct, so I felt like I really knew him. It was how engaged in his fans that's what makes us all so sad. I can't imagine what his family is going through now. R.I.P Iwata.

I mean they most likely didn't know him as a person.

I think the reason you were upset is because unlike many people in the world, you care about others.

Most everyone I listed works with video games or Nintendo in some way, so I'm sure they know who he was and why his death is so tragic.

It might be based in that thought, but it's mainly because of everything he did and stood for that made everyone upset that he's gone. He was legitimately a great guy and has done tons for a company held dearly in the hearts of so many people.
