In skylanders Trap Team I had to buy 1 trap master of each element in order to unlock the elemental gates, which what was inside was merely an afterthought, you literately walked forward to get the item and that was it. In this game how many things do I have to buy in order to unlock the full game? Do I need to buy 10 superchargers to unlock the gates (or something similar)? How are elemental gates being handled, if they are even in the game? I know I need 3 vehicles, one of each type, and preferably, the matching supercharger for each vehicle. If I get the dark starter for the Wii U which is my system of choice I will already have 2 of those sets being taken care of and I will just have to find the vehicle for stealth elf, which hopefully will not be held back.
Skylanders have serious stock issues in my area, for example, my Target only stocked water traps from day 1 aside from some triple trap packs, and all the water traps from day 1 are still on the shelf since no one bought them. So finding everything needed to complete the games is a complete pain in my area, since everything is poorly stocked, and TRU marks up figures, and I can't always make it on the day of a sale, plus their stock has been just as bad as the stock of every other store, since the nearest one is quite far away. I don't like to miss out on content when I buy games, but the last game has pushed my wallet to the limit, making me not want to buy this one if its going to be a complete money pit.

It's kinda unclear. At first, they said only 3 vehicles one of each type, a Supercharger for gates, and that's it. But Vehicle Elemental Zones were mentioned and we can't be sure that's just Sky/Sea/Land or actual areas tied to vehicle elements.

Not to mention they also talked about Regular Elemental Zones.
No need to worry if you have at least a Skylander per Element though.

It's actually crystal clear and stated that you will need One Super Charger (any element), One Ground vehicle, Sky vehicle and one Sea vehicle to 100% the core game.

It's stated in THAT video,by Lou, but Guha Bala in some interviews keeps mentioning Vehicle Elemental Zones. But he's probably mixing up terms since he repeats the same answers over and over for everyone.
Vehicle fantasy. VV are tech wizards. Full support.

Well the wording "We don't have Elemental Gates" sums it up and doesn't leave a lot to the imagination. I'm sure we'll find out more definitive details this week.

The wording by Lou. Guha Bala is "We don't have Elemental Gates, but now we have Vehicle Elemental Zones". One is the general Skylanders production person, one is the head of VV; it's hard to tell who actually is the most exact.

I wonder if he just meant Vehicle Zones while some of have bonuses for certain elements. Not that a certain vehicle of a specific element was required to access the area.

If you get a boat, will that cover all the water areas? Seems like you'd need a submarine.

We have no footage of the boat(ok we do,but 1-3 seconds), so it might have something to seal itself off in underwater areas.

I believe that the interview with Guha was pre-E3. It must have been a last minute decision to rid the game of elemental gates just like the decision to introduce traptanium gates in trap team. |

I also have a feeling that I think we're going to need 4 different vehicles in total now. We've seen that water mode in Chapter 7 that involves a submarine that you can't do in a boat. So it appears that certain vehicles are necessary to complete game-play in specific zones. There's nothing that says it specifically needs a sub. I'm wondering now if there will be multiple Ground and Sky zones that require specific Vehicles to complete. They could easily do the same thing in a Sky Zone that requires a Helicopter or some other hovering Sky vehicle. How will we know which one we need before we start? See video below.

They've mentioned specific vehicles are needed to accomplish certain tasks, so you're on the right track. I actually expect somewhere in the neighborhood of half of the vehicles before the dust settles. They're going to pull a "Trap Team" at some point, just waiting for the ball to drop. |

It all depends on how they handle it.
I will be happy to buy specific vehicles if they actually are worth it and not plain paywalls. Let's say, special areas with some tasks to accomplish before receiving a reward. Just like in SA.

Well, perhaps I'm in the Matrix now, because an area that's limited to certain elements is the same as a gate with a symbol to it....it's just how they're selling it. The approach is more ammenable, but I'm still contending they will have areas limited to a singular type of vehicle: example: "you need a land tank to clear the enemies.", "Only a submarine can be submerged to these depths." My guess is there will be ~2 types of each vehicle, for a requirement of 10 vehicles.

If this is the case that will be kind of crappy but less of a sting than the Trap Masters. These vehicles will at the very least provide a unique game play experience when played. It will be quite odd though if we don't know what we need to access all areas. Swappers had a specific movement type that was known up front. If certain Sky zones require a "Hover" Sky vehicle and certain Sea zones require a submarine instead of a boat that's going to be kind of funky. |

Maybe they could make it so you are encouraged to use specific vehicles but not forced.
For example a Sky area could be easier to complete if you use Jet Stream but could be completed just fine even with Stealth Elf's helicopter.

I want to get the dark starter pack for Wii U, but not if this is another $400 game, I can buy a game on steam (or an older game on another console) that will provide me with the same amount of entertainment as this, for just a few dollars. Just considering my budget here and the difficulty of finding the items needed to play this game.. Looks like I am waiting for more details to be released about this game. Since this pack includes amiibo now,I just don't want amiibo scalpers to hoard all the dark packs.
Last year in my area, again this may not apply to everyone, but almost no stores stocked the dark pack in my area unless you specifically preordered it at Gamestop, TRU or another similar store. TRU isn't even close enough to me to preorder, and neither is Best Buy. Target did not have any on the shelf at all, and TRU only had it for 1-2 systems and none of those were Nintendo systems. Therefore its online only for me. Last year the Wii U dark pack was selling for $200+ at Xmas time on the secondary market due to its very limited nature ( I was VERY glad I bought it early and am still pleased with my purchase). The Wii U pack didn't go on sale anywhere that I saw as well, they had every other pack on sale on BF except for the Wii U one. The Wii U just happens to be my system of choice. This is what I am dealing with here: I have not seen a single light + dark pack in my area, ever Target has never stocked single traps from day 1, they still have all the water traps they had at launch, no one is buying them Other than Wave 1+2, anything else is extremely scarce. Wave 2 didn't come to non-TRU stores until Xmas time. Blastermind was nearly impossible to find, the times I have seen it has been a handful or less. No Spotlight or Blackout anywhere No single light + dark traps anywhere I have not seen a single kaos trap in my area, ever. Except for the few dark packs I spotted on TRU's shelves the day of the buy 1 get one for a dollar trap sale. |

Of course, we had so many conflicting informations regarding Gates that it wouldn't surprise me if they decided to implement Vehicle Elemental Gates.

i think they might be doing the vehicle elemental gates for this one. seems it might be that if the vehicles have an element attached to them, meaning you would need more than 3.
Going to tell you or anyone else right now if you want a wii u dark starter, get it at launch. same goes for the wii version as with the amiibo part built in. You will not find them after as they will be scarce. I expect ps3 and xbox 360 dark starters to linger this time around and the xbox 1 and ps4s to be bought up as well.

Yes, given what I saw last year with the Wii U pack and the limited nature of dark packs in general at retailers here I definitely recommend getting one at launch. Also the Wii U pack didn't go on sale last BF, when every other pack did, unless i simply read wrong, but that is what I saw. Between the dark amiibo included and the fact that that the Wii U has an extremely limited library fans will be clamoring for this game. Also its $74.99 for a dark park at target.com right now, so I ordered. At the very least I can play some of the game, and pick up the needed figures when they get cheaper if I have to. If it becomes very expensive like last year's Wii U pack, I could always sell it off.
