Metroid is also a series that is successful partly because of it's emphasis on Samus as a lone, isolated bounter hunter exploring unknown territory, so it makes sense to just throw in a drasitically different version of the main character as a second rep. And at least Samus and ZSS not only have a completely different movesets and a different feel, but a very different design too. Furthermore, ZSS only has her own character slot in this game due to the transformation mechanic being axed.

Pokémon is literally a series with what is close to 1,000 playable protagonists. If we have to get yet another Pokémon character (which I don't really want - the Pokémon roster feels complete), why do we have to pick a clone of one we already have that will just be inherently bad competitively anyway? And if it has to be a clone of an existing Pokémon rep, why not at least get a bit more creative with the choice than just the younger version of Pikachu? (for example, you could probably make one of the other Fighting type Pokémon a Lucario clone - same rough moveset, but no Aura mechanic and not as floaty).

They're the same person with different weaponry and methods of combat because Samue finds ways to do a variety of different things for her survival. Pikachu and Pichu have movesets that could be considered 'basically the same'

I'm ambivalent towards Wolf's high chance of returning to Smash, although I'd much prefer that our new DLC characters all be brand new characters from here on out.

Wolf is the only returning character left I want to see as DLC. No interest in Snake, or Young Link, or Ice Climbers (and it's not going to happen so I don't know why people ask).

But Pichu was inferior in just about every way. Basic attacks hurt himself and he didn't offer that many advantages over using regular Pikachu. He existed entirely as a joke character. What could they really do to differentiate or make him better this time?

Classic 6.5, All-Star normal, 3DS.

I mean fighting level 9s (or 8s) over and over just gets a tad boring

Smash Run is my go to way of passing the time in the 3DS version. I feel like I've found the ultimate set-up for it.

Honestly, Captain Falcon isn't as good as people say he is in this game. I'm able to decimate him online with many characters. It may have to do with the fact that I fight so many Captain Falcons that I've just become GOOD at beating him, or maybe the people playing him aren't that great.

I think that's because you're judging how good a character is by what you see online.

He's definitely a high tier, but he gets shut down by certain characters, mainly the top tiers, which is why he isn't one. Basically anyone he can't rush down and anyone that outranges him and can gimp him easily. Captain Falcon's two big weaknesses are that he is incredibly easy to gimp (none of his aerials are safe during a recovery, except for maybe U-air which won't ever do much), and that he is very easy to lock into combos as he is the perfect size and fall speed for doing that with a lot of characters. He gets combo'd like a heavyweight, despite not really being one.
