Why Are Basketball Shoes So Damn Ugly And Expensive? [CLOSED]

They look like the product of the 90's if a clown shoe had a baby with neon colored jeans. I can buy a DS that'll last longer than a pair of shoes made to play for basketball. But the thing is people don't buy them to play basketball. They buy them to look cool around the ladies because neon colored shoes make them wet. Or at least that's what I saw in Middle/High school.

I never got why people spend like, $150 on sneakers. I just spend $30 on sneakers at spend-less shoes lol. I mean in the end they're all made in China so...

Unless the more expensive ones last longer or something. But I bought an expensive pair once and they lasted about the same time as my cheaper pairs.

Also I have noticed that towards the end of my high school days everyone's sneakers started becoming more neon coloured. I just stick to white.

EDIT: I understand buying expensive shoes if they're for sport and running and stuff though.

@Commander: Yeah I saw a lot of red/pink.

Ok I'm not going to lie, I'm tempted to buy a neon pair myself, for running and stuff since I'm actually getting bored of white. They will more than likely be blue (or purple if I can find any).

Most of the more expensive sneakers are produced in low quantities. This ensures a higher and more justified price, high demand, and guaranteed sellouts.

It's also a collector's thing. Basketball shoes (the expensive ones) have a massive collecting community and, yes, scalper's market.
