So now that we know Treasure Chests have random rewards (Hats, Soul Gems, etc.) instead of set rewards, how do you feel about it? Personally I'm on the fence. It was some what satisfying knowing where things like Soul Gems are since they affect how a Skylander might play. So that I'm not to crazy about. Now for Hats and or other rewards (we don't know yet if Leg. Treasures and Charms are back) it's kind of cool. We know that some replay was expected but now this actually gives you a reason to go back...you have a chance of getting something new. I personally would have loved a random level generation system but this is a baby step in that direction. It will be interesting if Vehicle Mods have a chance to be in these chests as well. So what are your thoughts?

Although the chests give the chapters replay value, I just hope the cutscenes will be fully skippable because the fact that cutscenes were used as the loading screens in Swap Force was what put me off replaying the chapters in that game.

Better than having to transfer all of the hats from TT to Superchargers the same way you have to from SF to TT. It also gives a reason to go back to the elemental (sorry, Supercharger) zones after you've already beaten them.
Overall, don't really care what is where, I just care that I've found all of the collectables, regardless of what they are. The random chests are neither better nor worse than set rewards.

I was not a fan of it in Trap Team 3DS. Too many hats and not enough chests.

I like to know where important things are and not leave to chance. (ie Soul Gems, Legendary Treasures) but Gems, Hats, things like that then fine, use the random thing.
I agree with having skipable cutscenes, if I have to hear Flynn say Boom to many times I might go crazy.

Yeah I think I would have been fine with anything in random chests that don't affect game play too much. Basically Soul Gems and Vehicle Mods would have static locations and everything else could be random. Not singing gloom and doom here and I'll reserve judgment for when we've been able to play it for a while. I was just curious how others felt. I think overall re-plays might be better this time around too. Say for example you play through a level with a Rocket for Sky, Boat for Sea and Car for Ground. Next time you go back through you can change it up with a Chopper for Sky, Sub for Sea and Tank for Ground. It could actually offer a completely different play experience based on what available in the level...that might be grounds for a new thread

I am not a fan of the idea but would have liked it more if they only included hats or trinkets.
I prefer to have my Soul Gems, Winged Sapphires and Legendary Treasures in precise places, and even have to possibility to get them the first time I play the level. I appreciate the tweak but I am much more intrigued by all the branching inside the levels; that's what I call encouraging replayability, I will feel so curious after skipping a branch that I will probably immediately replay the level just to explore it too. ![]()

It's a bit too many collectibles to put on a few chests per level(at least there seem to be more regular ones than random), so not too happy that Soul Gems and Legendary Treasures are included. They also didn't say if you'll actually get the chests again when you replay the level,so there's a chance that, unless they rig Soul Gems into always showing up on some spots, you might end up without a few by bad luck late in the game.
But Lou did imply the Wishing Well is kind of like a second chance to get more, so with the Wishstone you get from Supercharger Gates you're actually looking at two chests.

Nothing more was said, I think Lou said that on accident really from the way he quickly changed subject. Really taking it from how it works in Lost Islands; your only chance to get some monthly Alter Egos, premium buildings or Skylander Houses without gems or quests, and probably the quickest way to make money if you have over 600 of them like most people do at this point of months without a new Alter Ego to look out for.

Random chest from the only one we saw. When they opened it, they also got some unknown number of wishstones, just the icon popped up and Lou was quick to leave.

Not a fan of randomness. Just my .02. If they're trying to spread all of the hat crap, please please just retire them or just make them readily available in game. It muddies everything else.

^ that wasn't always the case, and some of us like to do stat mods without wearing hats. If they can get rid of Heroics/Quests that modify stats, I say get rid of hats too. Maybe Legendary treasure will make a comeback.

But I love hats. Actually give something for your Skylander to stand out from your duplicates or your friends', plus some combinations look hilarious. Trinkes helped but the fact they were set to specific locations kinda killed some of the fun, except maybe times TFB knew for sure what they were doing like Ramses' Horn giving Camo a stinger tail.

If you don't like collecting hats just don't get all Legacy ones, the game only counts level collected and now that they're random probably not at all. No need to get rid of something for everyone because you don't want to collect.

I would like something in the middle where they keep hats but only new one. At this point I don't see the need to unlock hundreds of hats I'm NEVER going to use. I only use a select few. I don't want the concept to go away just the execution. In a perfect world we'd get some iteration of heroics and Leg. Treasures. This franchise is in desperate need of allowing the user to customize their figure. It needs to go back to that feeling of progression and effort that has been missing for a while. |

My take: Trap Team took a step in the right direction with this but should've removed it from the inventory list. If they take Trap Team's approach and remove legacy hats from the inventory I'll be good (but still allow you to wear them--but I think their days should be numbered. It should be a rolling set of hats they support. |

O.k. so I found the video with the explanation and it's a Chest and a Wish Stone. Also Leg. Treasures confirmed as option for chests.
Also Andy asks if Soul Gems appear in the game and Lou answers "correct". Does that mean there are stationary and random Soul Gems in chests?!? |

Oh ok, I get it now. Thought you meant that Legacy hats counted in some way. A few new hats would still be nice though - there's a still small number of cosplay-themed ones(Malefor's Horns, Mesmerelda's Top Hat, anyone?) and a few other types that they could cover, though they already started repeating names(there are two Wizard Hats - one magic themed and the other I think I'll get banned if I try to describe).

I mean, there could be chests both along the main path and behind SuperCharger Gates.
The former wouldn't have Wishstones in them making them different and "less valuable". Doesn't seem likely, I agree but may be a possibility.

Yeah it would be kind of cool if maybe some were just spread out in any given level but then you have a chance to get additionals from chests and Wish Stone spins. lol I really have no idea how this is going to work. Gamescom needs to happen sooner lol. Or that press invite that they do every year.

Don't like it. Soul gems and vehicle mods are too important. I want to know exactly where those are. I wouldn't mind it if a soul gem was replaced by one of these slot chests once you got the soul gem for example. If it improves replayability, then great. I have a feeling it's going to do the opposite. You won't need to search for the hard to find objection a level, just find the easy ones 20 times. Boring.
And hats...never really liked them. Never liked the look. Stat boost s are great, but not enough when your fugue looks stupid IMO. I'd rather see stat boost s from trinkets or things you don't even see. |

Not gambling that much since the chests respawn when you go back to the level, more like just trying to make collectible finding flashier.

Well, I hope that once you get something from that wheel, you can't get the exact same thing again. Like, If I spun the wheel, and I got a hat, I hope that when I'm replaying the level, I don't have to worry about getting the same hat 15 times, because the wheel randomly lands on the same hat every time.

I think the Hat icon just means you'll get RNG between whatever you don't have. The hat in the gameplay was always the same one, so probably for the first time you get the actual level collectible.

I'm thinking this as well. There's be no point to duplicate items. I think the hat was the same in the E3 demo because it was "rigged" to demo the same way each time. As long as there are no chances for "doubles" I think it will be o.k. Then it's just grinding it out until you get everything...which is kind of what we do anyway. |

It would be nice if they have some sort of system so you have a higher chance to get Soul Gems for the Skylanders you own first. Same thing with vehicles mods.

I wanted to make a topic for this somewhere before I saw this one, haha.
I think it's a really bad idea. The randomness won't make this more fun on a first playthrough, because I shouldn't know which items are coming up anyway, and on repeat playthroughs it just means I won't be able to go to spots and get certain items I want (critically, Soul Gems). But besides that, it just means a load of grinding on random chance to get every item... That doesn't sound fun, trying to get through randomness or doing the same thing over and over usually isn't a good form of replay value (need I recall how bad some SF quests are?), and it means earning every item won't feel like an achievement so much as relief you're done opening the same chests and messing with RNG. I like how SF did it. New hats all available ingame and all old ones up for purchase. I hate how TT did it. Adding legacy hats (which I haven't bothered doing because I never use them and knew I would switch consoles) sounds like a chore (and I'm not looking forward to doing it when I finally start the Wii U version).

If the "old" hats have to stay around for "backwards compatibility" then I agree Swap Force's method is better. If however they are looking to eliminate the reundant coding for all of these hats in each game, Trap Team is the way to go except they actually need to retire some hats now. It's WAY TOO MANY.

It's not redundant, they always use the hats for some generic NPCs. Don't want all the Mabus looking the same, seriously.
