It depeneds on region. It's fifth grade in the Midwest.
Probably 7th grade in a majority of the south

What people need to understand is that kids these days are not actually all satan.
It all comes down to your parenting, if you teach your kid that he can get whatever he wants, them yeah he'll be a spoiled little *****. I know not every kid is like that, but the fact we have such an impacting social media selection with all these spoiled kids and even spoiled parents it's just kind of scary to the point where it's like, well I don't want my kid to be like that, I mean, I got a flip phone at 15, I didn't even need it til then, but all these expensive things that kids have at such a young age it's just like why? We didn't need that when we were kids, why do kids need that now? Iunno, times change I guess.

Well I got by first phone when I started High School when I was 12, and I only use it to text my mom every morning to tell her I'm alive. Out of all my friends, I can only thing of 2 who have phones, the rest don't. Only certain rich kids have iPhones of Nexus 6's. And in terms of expensive things, what about back then when kids got Gamecubes or PS2's instead of PS4's or Xbox One's? That's not that different. Heck I payed for my Xbox by myself.
But again, everyone is different and you can't generalize.

There were so many more games and at cheaper prices for PS2 than any system since. Or so I've been led to believe.

The whole "when I was your age" mentality happens with every generation. Technology and lifestyles in general are constantly changing and it's hard to imagine kids growing up differently than how you did yourself so you think they're doomed. It's like when you hear bitter old people saying "WELL BACK IN MY DAY".... It repeats itself always. Kids get things their parents didn't get growing up and it might seem like a novelty to the parent since they were raised with less technology, but for a kid that was just their favorite childhood toy that's gonna be irrelevant in 10 years. It comes down to how a kid's raised and the actual habits they're taught, regardless of the things they have.

Kids at really young ages (like 6) don't need the newest iPhone or anything like that. That would be ridiculous. But with technology becoming more relevant, of course things are going to be introduced at younger ages. Kids need to know how to use phones and computers when they're young because they're becoming a LOT more prominent in today's society.

I don't agree with kids having phone and things like that unless there is a way to put a block on them.

It put them in dangerous situations, and all so parents can show off to other parents that their kid has the latest of everything.

Of course you should put a block on them. But not allowing them to know how to use certain technology is really bad considering how society is putting more pressure on using it.

I personally never bowed to the pressures of society and it's wrong to make kids feel like the have to follow a crowd like a bunch of sheep.

I'm referring to in school, where it seems to becoming more of a requirement to use it at some point.

School is a totally different thing, i'm meaning when a kid is made to feel like some sort of outcast if their parents don't get them the latest things to keep up with all the other kids because their parents like to be seen to be the cool parents.

Of course that's bad. I know how it is to have parents who force you to do things so that they look better, and it's absolutely awful.

The other thing that annoys me is parents who try and push their kids in a negative way.

Showing an interest in something they like is fine, but don't go over the top.

I'll gjve my kid a phone a bit after everyone else has one. At this rate... 5th grade??? It'll be a past generation, used. I'll monitor it to make sure they aren't joining ISIS but won't try to invade their privacy. If they prove themselves responsible I'll get the a fancy hi-tech one in like... I don't know when. I see Fourth graders today with smart phones and I didn't get mine till about a year ago...

I personally believe kids shouldn't have a phone until at least 9, but that's probably just me. I survived without a phone until I was 13, so I don't see why the latest generation can't. I've heard that giving technology like phones and computers to kids at a young age, like 5, is bad for their brain and eye-sight and can cause brain tumors and other **** like depression, because their brains are very early in development. These kids will be forced to wear glasses at like, 15. That is pretty much the main reason why I don't like seeing kids as early as 5 using phones and other technology. If it wasn't so bad for their health I would be okay with it. Also it's not really good for communication skills ether, so I guess there's that too.

Firstly the thing about computers causing depression, bad-eyesight, etc is actually a myth.
I've noticed a lot of people have said "I didn't get a phone until insert age here" and that's really not how you should look at it, as I believe Baro has already said, times are changing. It's crucial that kids are exposed to technology, limiting a kid from technology also limits them from key education tools. Many schools in fact are now using iPads and lap tops for most of their work.
Will write more and fix formatting/spelling on computer later, typing on a phone is annoying.
