The funny thing is that this totally fits Sonic's snarky attitude that he rediscovered when Roger Craig Smith took over voicing him. I read the tweets in the Sonic voice and everything. XP

If only the actual games had writing this good lately (it honestly reminds me of the writing in the Sonic Boom cartoon, though).

It was very hit and miss. It heavily flanderises Sonic's character, even if it has some great lines like the "copyright laws" bit (which was legit really funny).

They clearly hired someone who knows the Sonic fandom quite well. Good PR.

They hired Aaron Webber.

He's a long time Sonic fan, who was originally a forum moderator on SEGA Boards, I believe. Eventually, he actually got hired by SEGA as their community manager for a while, but he left the company for some reason shortly before Sonic Lost World released. Recently, the person who was PR Manager and the person running the Sonic social media pages for the last seven years retired from SEGA, and Aaron Webber came back to take over that job.

He's well known in the Sonic community for doing lots of crazy things. When Jim Sterling gave Sonic Colours a 4.5/10 in his Destructoid review, SEGA sent him a 15 foot Sonic Colours banner, likely organised by Aaron Webber. They also made this video in collaboration with Destructoid, taking a stab at the whole ordeal:

SEGA allowed him to film the video above.

What he's doing on twitter is fine. He has a perfect balance between genuine fun humour, and logically shooting down naysayers and trolls.

As well as the normal stuff, of course.
