Introducing Sonic Boom: Fire & Ice!

It's a Shattered Crystal sequel for the 3DS developed by Sanzaru once again. I wish I could say this is some sort of joke, but it doesn't appear to be. Hoo boy. <.>;

At least it'll probably be the last, since the exclusivity deal with Nintendo is only 3 games.

Shattered Crystal wasn't bad though, and I wish people would realise that. It's not amazing by any stretch, but it was OK. I have the demo and it's alright from what I can tell, nothing too exciting though and I am not terribly compelled to pick it up.

It getting a sequel makes complete sense though, since the TV show and toys are a smash hit, and unlike Rise of Lyric, it wasn't a broken mess or anything.

And from what I can tell, this game is making a legitimate effort to improve the formula Shattered Crystal established. The Fire & Ice gimmick could actually be fun, Amy is now playable, they are making the levels smaller and more focused and toning down the Metroidvania aspect a bit, the visuals and art direction is greatly improved (they are even using Yellow Springs from Classic Sonic and Modern Springs that debuted in Sonic Adventure, as opposed to those generic, blue glowing springs), and they are adding multiplayer racing.

At the end of the day, the Sonic Boom brand is a spin-off. It's meant specifically for kids. I love the show, but if the games aren't stellar, I don't care, because I'm not even their target audience. That's what regular Sonic is for.

And hey, if this game ends up decent (and it very well could be from what is shown so far), I might pick it up.

I never personally liked the Sly Cooper games, but it'd be a hell of a lot better than Sonic Boom...

That ended with the original Sonic Boom games. The 3 games for the deal were Sonic Lost World, Mario & Sonic at the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympic Games, and the first two Sonic Boom games.

That's technically five games, but the different versions of Lost World and Sonic Boom were counted as mere spin-offs of the main console versions.

Them making this game is nothing to do with deals with Nintendo. The cartoon is just really popular, and kids own plenty of 3DS systems.

Aaron Webber has been posting on NeoGAF with information about the game, and it's actually sounding pretty good. They are basically fixing the biggest problems with Shattered Crystal.

Why do Sonic, Knuckles etc. have to look like that? They don't even look like sonic characters! Sonic characters look cool, are around 3ft and thin. Knuckles stood out as strong in all the other games so why did they have to make him look completely stupid, along with the rest of them (though Tails' design is good)? I don't these to permanently be their designs.

I personally liked Rise of Lyric.

They really isn't much of a difference between the Classic and Modern designs. The characters aged, so they updated their designs a bit to match. The only one that changed drastically was Amy, and it was a huge improvement (she was literally "Ms. Male Character" in the Classic design).

So SEGA decides to fund this. Meanwhile, the Shenmue 3 kickstarter earns half a million USD in UNDER AN HOUR (in spite of the site crashing). Good jorb, Sega Execs. <.>;

The game won't be supported by anyone unless that goal is reached, though. That basically means even Sony wasn't confident it would sell to just fund it right out the gate.

I don't think it's fair to shun SEGA over funding a game based on the highly successful cartoon of one of the most iconic characters in gaming history, as opposed to a sequel to a niche game that sold horribly on SEGA's last console. And I guarantee that most of the funding Shenmue 3 is getting right now is ONLY because it was announced at Sony's already strong E3, people were already excited and willing to throw their money at any new PS4 game, especially since the system, currently lacks games until next year.

I kept trying to post this video numerous times but it was broken every time I posted it. (EDIT: like right now, even quoting it broke the video. )

Not really interested in Sonic Boom anymore so I could really care less about this. If anything I hope this means Sonic Team's next mainstream Sonic game will be amazing.
