High schoolers, what's your GPA? [CLOSED]

For me it went

Freshman year: 3.63
Sophomore year: 3.58
Junior year: 4.12

As you can see, I defy the general consensus of junior year being the hardest academically.

I graduated high school with a 3.3 GPA.

Freshman year was the hardest for me, and then senior was also pretty hard because I got senioritis bad in the last 2 weeks.

Grade Point Average, it's an American thing I think. Basically it's just another way to express your grade average. You assign a point value to each grade(4-A,3-B,2-C,1-D,0-F), hence the name, and take the average of them.

Freshman - Semester 1: 2.667
Freshman - Semester 2: 3.0

Went into full Cambridge program my Sophomore year, tested out of Spanish 1-2 and earned both half credits for it, transcript basically says I took 8 classes my first semester

Sophomore - Semester 1: 3.0
Sophomore - Semester 2: 3.33

High school GPA: 4.0
HOPE GPA: 3.8ish*

*HOPE is the state's calculation of GPA. It's your GPA totally unweighted (without the extra points for AP/Honors classes that your school may or may not give you). If you get a 3.7 on the HOPE scale (along with a 1200 CR + Math SAT score), you get the Zell Miller scholarship, which pays for all your tuition at any in-state university :3

You guys have it so clearly defined. My school uses number grades only so I just have to kinda guesstimate.

My final average numerically was a 96 and I finished in the top 10% of my class, so it's got to be a 4.0. I think.

I don't know.

Well number grades translate into the A-F scale, and that translates to GPA.

You'd have a 4.0.

Junior year was the most challenging because of what all it entailed, but it wasn't really that hard for me either.

The hardest year for me was honestly freshman year. Not because of the curriculum, but because I was immature. I would rather play video games than study, and I was more willing to make excuses than solutions. I still finished well, but most of the year was a struggle.

Honestly, if I had done better freshman year, I could've easily been Val or Sal.

So let that be a lesson to any of you upcoming high schoolers; take freshman year seriously because that it's vital to your GPA.

I don't know mine tbh, I don't think it was ever explicitly stated for me. I knew my 0-100 grade average and class rank all through the 4 years but never a 0-4 GPA.
I could go through 4 years of report cards and do the math myself but nah, too much work.

Where I live we only have GPA scores in university - we use the standard A-F or Excellent to Needs Improvement rankings throughout schooling then use ATAR for the last two years of high school. ;;

Doesn't sound like that bad of a system. Really, at the college level, GPA is nothing more than an overall indicator of, well, your average performance across your classes.

In high school, it can be interpreted as some crazy, stupid metric of where you stand compared to your peers. We're not meant to compare our GPA's to one another. But thanks to the college application process becoming its own industry in America, we do compare them. And that's unfortunate. >.>

I'm pretty sure your college GPA (at large universities, at least) determines your priority for getting into the courses required for your major at the start of junior year.

If that's the case, you're heading to the wrong university. I've taken requirements for my major since year 1 and I've only needed to pass to take higher level courses. Some departments have stricter standards (e.g. you must obtain a "B" or better in the course in order to graduate), but GPA does not dictate priority for getting courses. An overwhelming majority of American universities do it by year level (graduate students, then 5th years, then 4th years, etc.). If you're not going to one, then I wish you luck because that's the type of environment that brews unhealthy academic competition. And nobody ends up a winner in that situation. >.>

In all seriousness tho, it's weird seeing you guys all with such specific scores. Here we don't have anything remotely close to that. There's no "overall score" for the year, it's really just an overall, "you failed", "you passed", "you passed with merit", or "you passed with excellence". You just have to get a certain number of credits at whatever the grade. Once you get that minimum score for whatever grade, the actual score itself doesn't matter.
