Honestly, behind the colorful graphics, the whimsical nature and the Nintendo logo, it's still a shooting game. I might like it if shooting games hadn't been done beyond death, but now I just want them to die for good.

...Still, I do kind of like the graphics, art style and everything else.

Not really. There are many genres that had their day, but except for shooters and sports games, a lot of them aren't made as much anymore in the modern day. For every platformer or fighting game, there's about three or so shooters.

The genre itself may be done to death, but this game is pretty different from the majority of them. The mechanics, art style, and modes are all pretty different and unique to the point where I can barely categorize it with other popular shooters like COD and Halo.

Finally got a chance to play the game, and it was definitely a lot of fun for me and my friend who is staying over currently.
All I could think was, dang I really want the full game already, which what any good demo should do, remain satisfying and still keep you interested for the real product.
Also, I think I saw pankakesparx in a game, hi. :V

That was lovely. I can see the repeating maps getting a little boring or uneventful after a while, but I still really enjoyed what I played and I'm still a bit excited for launch.

This isn't really a conventional shooter though, since the main objective is pretty much to shoot the floor instead of your opponent.

Check out the indie scene. Lots of platformers in there, including retro style ones. Games are being made for everyone nowadays.

Platformers were everywhere in the 90s, keep that in mind. They had loads of exposure in the same way shooters have loads of exposure now.

When it comes to platformers, it depends.

2D retro style ones are everywhere but they mostly play like 8-bit era games. 16-bit era-esque games are rare, and stuff like 3D collectahons are only sort of getting a revival with Yooka-Laylee and A Hat in Time.

Ironically, Splatoon's single player is basically a platformer/shooter hybrid. The level design seems quite a bit like Super Mario Galaxy in a lot of places, with you hopping between small sections of land.

What I noticed after playing the Testfire, I was playing as Isaac in all 3 sessions btw, is that the Splat Charger stinks without the motion controls. I didnt really try adjusting the sensitivity bc I dont see a difference whenever I do, but I can tell you the Splat Charger is nigh unusable. The stick just doesnt flow as smoothly and it gets hard to aim. Granted I didnt try with the motion controls myself (bc I felt like every other weapon was better without them) so I dont really know what that's like. I just know I only used the Charger 3 times before I just gave up trying.

NDA. When review copies are sent out to reviewers, you're not supposed to release the review until the game released under the NDA. if the review is released or leaked before the game releases, you're in violation of the NDA, and therefore invalidates your review.
