inb4 someone says something about animal cruelty

Could you please be quiet? Just please?

It isn't animal cruelty if it was ****ing self defense

I am a huge animal advocate, so listen to me when I say it's not animal cruelty, if you are in a situation where you need to save yourself or someone you care about, you do that, if it were just regular gardner snake then it would be animal cruelty, but it was a ****ing rattler. If a rattler is in your home you call animal control but that's only up until the point where it's staring down your pets or children,

Killing something is cruel. How is it not cruel if it was in self defense? It's justified, but still cruel.

No arguments start here, my initial post was joking >.>

Fact remains that the snake is an animal. And posted the picture for "the lulz" and began posting the picture unspoilered on a children's forum site.

The only thing justified here was the death of the snake. Not anything else.

Funny, what I'm seeing mainly is users complaining about the snake being killed. Granted there are several level headed users here who are wanting this topic to be spoilered, but why haven't the S&N mods done this yet?

CAV has looked at the topic and did things, if you actually read the topic top to bottom.

If people are still complaining once they enter the topic, the title should at least have been modified so when anyone complains about the gore, all you can do and say is that they were warned.

If a Grizzly was ****ing mauling your little sister, mercilessly, no reason, just because it decided to, you had a shotgun and were guaranteed it to be killed by one shot of the shotgun and you shot it. Is it still cruel? Because the bear sure as hell didn't give a **** about your sister or anything else.

She would die. Either from crap aim with a shotgun (or just because it's a shotgun in general), or she was just attacked by a grizzly bear. There's little to no chance of saving her anyway. But anyone would do it. Bears don't just go out of their way to attack people. They have a reason.

You literally just ignored my question and dodged it almost completely. Your sister is going to live, she will recover and be perfectly fine, but you need to shoot the bear to save her, you are guaranteed to hit it, it is guaranteed to die, I never said that physics or logistics existed in the question I presented to you. So. You shoot, kill the bear who was mauling your sister, save your sister, the bear is dead. Is. It. Cruel?

Well it's assumed with most questions that basic physics and logistics exist >.>
In a way. Maybe not directly to the bear, but the bear might have cubs. Now those cubs are probably going to die as they're too young to hunt, and will starve.
Plus, bears are cute af.

My impression of mesu:

2 plus 4? Well first off we have to assume that in this world, 2's and 4's are willing to join together, but we also have to think that the 2's may have an embargo with the 4's so if they join together it would cause them to get the death penalty so in the end they wouldn't join together.
----

I don't know why you're avoiding the question and arguing symantecs that really don't matter. The bear has no cubs, it is not important to the world, even if you needed a permit, it is defense, you would be wavered. I was genuinely interested to know if you thought it was cruel or not in that situation but watevs.

You know I hate coming off as rude, and I don't mean to be rude, I just wanted to know your opinion.

I've largely stayed out of this debate but here goes:

If an animal is a serious threat to you, your loved ones, and/or your pets, then it's more than reasonable to kill it. There aren't that many ways to stop a snake outside of killing it dead.

One could say that three shots is overkill and that one would've done enough, leading to a bleed out. But personally if I were in that situation I'd also continue shooting until it stopped moving. Hell I act like this with normal bugs, let alone a threatening creature.

Maybe I just don't get it, having never really had animals of my own, but this is not a person we're talking about. He didn't shoot and kill a person in self defense, which could be a bigger and more justified debate. It was a snake. Likely not a particularly endangered species either. Call me inhumane for valuing the life of a person more in comparison (or in this instance, a domesticated cat) but there you go.

Yes the snake was pregnant, but that shouldn't make that much of a difference when it's showing a threat. So if you have a mouse in your house and you find out it's having babies, are you not suddenly going to dispose of it, especially if those extra mice can eventually turn into an infestation?
Or worse, what if we're talking bedbugs here. They multiply wicked fast, and are practically laying eggs all the time. Will you refuse to kill one for that reason, even though not doing so (or more appropriately, calling an exterminator) can cause a HUGE problem?

And I have no strong opinions either way of him posting about this or seemingly bragging. All I ask is that next time he spoiler the image if he has one, or put it in a link with a warning.

From what I see here, the only people really complaining are people who have already been here even before it was spoilered and are debating the ethics of killing the snake. The photo was linked with a gore warning on it, but if you want me to add such warning to the thread title I can do that for you.

this.

his cat would've probably had been killed if he hadn't cocked the shotgun.

Obviously I had to cock it to charge the shell into the chamber, but I'm very grateful my cat ran away. I was at pretty close range, I was so scared I was going to hit her.

Lol. This is the first topic all over again.

It's a ****ing venomous and agressive snake. It's not like he killed a chipmunk or skinned it alive...

Not only that, but she was PREGNANT, meaning she would probably have a larger appetite than normal......

@ Those who say I should've shot her once and let her bleed out: Bleeding out is a slow, agonizing death for any animal; killing her like that was more humane, honestly. Plus, a wounded animal is more willing to attack than ever, I had to make sure she died.

It was more about how arguments tend to start and escalate in general. I'm not keeping tabs on what individual users say, though I sometimes like to figure out their motivations and their thoughts.

That's just due to my interest in social psychology by the way, I'm not claiming to be some all-knowing mastermind here. I'm also not intruding upon anyone's privacy. I just analyze their behavior and form theories.

Not that this topic was especially bad. It was very tame in comparison to the LGBT one we had back then (the fact that you created that one too is just a coincidence, you didn't start the argument).

Psychologically speaking, I think my motive might be that I'm trying to brag about my experiences in the real world because, let's face it, most users here are afraid or disdainful of life outside of their bubbles. I deduced as much, but it's fine. I do that too sometimes.

If I recall correctly. Rattlesnakes are pretty small venomous snakes, and mainly hunt small animals, more commonly rodents. Also cats do occasionally hunt these snakes a okay, but yes they can die. Also before mating most snakes eat a animal, so they don't have to worry about eating for a while.

Though I think have some questions about this. Was the snake all bunched up or was she slithering when you found her? Because if she was slithering through your yard, she was probably just trying to find a borrow or something and your cat didn't take kindly to it.

How long was the snake? Although snakes can eat things a bit to much more bigger than they are, I just can't picture a rattlesnake eating a cat. Unless the rattlesnake you get is a bigger species that is.

True. But you can't say a Rattlesnake was after your cat if it's can't even fit one in it's stomach to begin with.

True. But you can't say a Rattlesnake was after your cat if it can't even fit one in it's stomach to begin with.

You'd actually be surprised at what snakes will do.

Just because the cat wouldn't fit in their stomach doesn't mean that they wouldn't try.

Yes that is true too, which is why I asked if the snake was bunched up or not. Because Rattlesnakes don't act like edgey hunters like King Cobras where they just slither right up to you and bite you. They're ambush hunters, well most snakes are. Though Rattlesnakes will attack with only 2 of the following reasons.
  • It found a good hiding spot after following your prey scent and who didn't notice until it's too late, aka hunting ambush style.
  • You the predator backed the snake up into a corner, and it only has it's venom to defend itself.

  • I was thinking since the cat noticed the snake (As Metallo said) it was probably cornering the snake.

She was halfway coiled. I'd say about 3.5 feet long. My cat is very small for her age; she's an adult, but she weighs practically nothing.

Look, you can do all the research you want, but unless you were in a situation like that, you can't say with certainty that you would've acted differently.

Oh. I just wondering those about the circumstances, I would've acted just as startled as you and probably ended the snake myself, or at least swatted it with a shovel (since I don't own a gun that can do **** to any animal) and got whoever was out of there and inside the house.

But hey it doesn't change the fact that the snake is dead.

The fact that the snake is dead (along with her potential offspring) brings much relief to me, for I know that my land will be much safer.

Ya I kind of don't blame ya to having that relief. Reminds me of the time my dad killed a Pregnant Scorpion that was around our house.
