Correction: Stuff and Nonsense is not a very welcoming place.

I started out on dS in the General section and specific game sections, and I didn't really have much trouble or issue there. I got along with people, made friends (some of which I still have today) and we had nice little discussions.

And while I don't have any real experience in those sections, the Skylanders boards also seem a little more tame. They have a lot of kids, yes, but they also seem a little kinder to newer users trying to have discussions and have a more "forget the haters" attitude, compared to the "just deal with it" attitude S&N often carries. It's certainly a product of different age ranges but still.

I think a huge reason for it though is ExtremeSpyro. While previous banned users would get banned, maybe try to make one or two more accounts, fail, and then leave our lives forever, ES continued to come back under several different accounts multiple times, and it sounds a bit like he still tries every now and then. I noticed around his time period people began to assume that every new user that posted in the section was ES, and it got a little ridiculous.
And even if ES himself has began to mellow out with attempts, we now see Locoguy doing nearly the exact same, and now users (and sometimes even us mods) tend to question if a newer user is him. We've all gotten so antsy about this stuff, and I feel like sooty turning out to be a returning user (which one I have no idea) isn't going to help matters any.

I'm not saying to have some big attitude adjustment or to become a hugbox (that kinda goes against S&N). But to also not be as harsh on newer users. If you think they're an alt, contact one of the mods about it and we can look into it.
This issue of not being super harsh on new users also goes for if you see that the user is young. If they're acting ridiculous then by all means go nuts and call them out; I'd be right there with you doing the same. But if they're just playing around or whatever, maybe not go on a rampage about how stupid they are.

I remember I warned you all of this a while ago (and I'm sure I wasn't the only one):

darkSpyro (or at least, the S&N community) is just like a high school clique. Those who aren't respected, or perceived as "cool," go ignored.

It's so ironic......Most of you come here to escape that sort of social exile, and here you are as perpetrators of it yourselves. You feel powerful, don't you, being able to be selective about to whom you grant the title of acquaintance, because you're one of the "cool kids" now. You feel like you're suddenly elevated in status, because you've never been accepted before, but hey! Here you are, and you've got some ranking. What better way to celebrate than to become the elitist overlords who always torture the "underlings" outside of your circle? You were one of them at one time (hell, you still are, in the world outside of your screen), and here you are showing the ultimate lack of sympathy and control.

Someone once said that tumblr is the place where real-life losers get to be the big bullies they always wanted to be, but I honestly think that applies to darkSpyro more.

This is why I can't stand to be here for too long at a time. You people make me absolutely sick.

I mean, it's called "Stuff and Nonsense", not "Jerks and Harassment".

I'm fine with being blunt or poking fun at other users in the section. I do it often as well and it's part of S&N. But there's a thin line between being blunt and outright being a jackass, and I definitely think that it isn't really right to make topics or trends about users who don't participate in S&N (often for a reason such as that).

returning user or not though, sooty DID make a point with making this topic about new user discrimination, though it's hard for me to talk about that when everything involving that subject has already been said.

I'm a little confused by people saying this section isn't welcoming seeing as I was able to fit right in with no trouble at all, but I guess it just sort of shows how I'm a little bit more experienced with this sort of thing in general?

I suppose my age (21) helps with that a little bit as well.

I'm still fairly new so I don't really have much else to say about it.

I think it came with the shift of S&N from a board mean to house exclusively spam topics to a board for members of the site to "socialize" (and I use that term loosely here) in a way not related to Skylanders discussion. I don't know what some of these folks are going on about with certain users returning because that's been a problem going back to 2007. But since the site was so small back then and everyone went on every board, returning users didn't set off red flags. And since dark was actually active, those accounts got zapped much quicker.

Now that A) it's been established that S&N is essentially this strange nexus that's taken on its own life and could practically spin off into its own forum, and B) 90% of new users are here for Skylanders, I get extremely suspicious when I see a new account pop up and make posts on this board. Given this and what @Samius said (multi-quote isn't working for me for whatever reason), and everything else I understand so far, I guess it makes sense for me to have been considered a possible alt and for me to have easily laughed it off and taken the time to somewhat "prove" my individuality. Honestly it doesn't matter to me, as I said, I'm still pretty new here so any new person who shows up could easily be completely new or someone with plenty of experience with the site.

I'm not even a fan of Spyro, I'm just here because, as mentioned, I'm a friend of CAV and wanted to get away from my previous forum, at least a little bit. I presume that helped me as well, considering he was able to vouch for me as being someone new and not an alt.

Off-topic but I've seen mention off and on of a skype group. Is it mainly for people from S&N? If so I wouldn't mind getting added.
