I believe the yellowish, bulbous organs are egg sacs (correct me if I'm wrong), which means this was a pregnant snake.

My mom pulled up and started screaming my name. I came out and I saw my cat just...staring at something. I looked closer and I saw the stripes; I knew it was a rattler.

The cat was less than 2 feet away from her. One quick lunge, and my cat would be dead.

I went to my dad's truck and got the shotgun. I cocked it, which fortunately scared the cat off into the woods. Then, I fired; boom, pump, boom, pump, boom, pump. All three shells into the beast (first two in the body, final one in the head).


Argue all you want, but I know I was justified here. If I had been even a few seconds late, my cat could've died. Go ahead, criticize me.

1) I posted a similar topic about killing a snake about two years ago and everyone got butthurt over it, so I did it again for the lulz.
2) Remember, you're looking at the underbelly. I shot her from the side and top, the whole wound was much bigger. Besides, I had picked her up with the shovel and moved her, this isn't the spot where she died. I used all three shells because she was still rattling after the first two. Maybe she would've bled out eventually, but I had to be sure - as long as she's breathing, she can strike.
3) Not that it was loud, but it was a sudden noise that broke her concentration on the snake. And yes, she's very jumpy.

1) He was justified??? It almost killed his cat and possibly him. What was he supposed to do? Was he supposed to wait for it to strike both of them and then call Animal Control?
2) For something that thin, hell yeah that's a shotgun wound. Those things have massive force, you can see how when he said he shot the head that it's head is blown clean off.

I understand that. But because most of you have never had any sort of experience with a deadly animal, you don't really know what it's like. You can't say with certainty that you would've handled the situation better.


Honestly, if I didn't have pets, I'd probably let the snakes go. But I've got to protect my pets, simple as that.

Snakes are notorious for having very autonomous nervous reflexes. Even after death, they typically coil and writhe like they're still alive. As a result, the only quick, effective way to kill a snake is to either destroy the brain or disconnect it from the body. And even after I shattered her head with the third shot, she still swished her tail. Not a very pleasant thing to encounter.

This is a snake we're talking about. Snakes have pretty damn good reflexes, and they're really hard to hit with a crossbow because they're so thin. If you can hit it, be my guest, but it's definitely not the ideal weapon.

This is a shotgun we're talking about. One shot puts more than one hole into the thing. How far away were you?
I've never shot a snake, but I've seen one in my yard before.

I wasn't saying you had to kill it with one shot. One shot would probably make it unable to attack efficiently and as swiftly as usual.

This is a 125lb. tension crossbow I be talking about. I don't believe any real snake could mentally react to a bolt traveling faster than it can even process the situation that it is in... and typically my aim is pretty good with my bow and crossbow (Though I'm an awful shot with a gun.)

A bow is less destructive as well. Though, one shot may still be lethal over the course of time. Depending on the tip of the arrow, and the place where it was struck.

I'd like to say I was not a wuss, (Really like to.) But once I lifted a large wooden plate on the ground and underneath was a tiny gardner sneak and I danced like a "drunken ballerina."

Funny, what I'm seeing mainly is users complaining about the snake being killed. Granted there are several level headed users here who are wanting this topic to be spoilered, but why haven't the S&N mods done this yet?
