While there have been confirmations of a Skylanders Movie possibly being considered, I'm surprised Sony wants to do one.

Sony has a lot of ideas floating around if anyone caught some of the other emails from the wikileaks/other leaks. Basically all flights of fancy. They've ranged from stuff including Smash Brothers (an Avengers styled film with properties like Zelda, Mario, etc in individual movies first leading up to it), a standalone Mario movie, and plenty of other nonsense.

You have to remember these are just dumb emails they send back and forth to each other tossing quick ideas. Nothing really concrete at all. To be honest, Sony has about as much a chance of doing a Skylanders movie as any other film studio right now, considering there's nothing to base it off of than a few emails. Good to see Business Insider has resorted to clickbait articles lol.

I heard Sony also wants to do a Mario movie. As in, Nintendo's Mario.

Recently found out Sony wants to make a Shadow of the Colossus movie.
So... Why not?

We'll see if TfB and Activision will agree.

a call of duty movie as well? whats it going to be about? a bunch of 12 year old kids yelling at other people and cussing?

a cartoon series I can see without a problem.
A movie I think is going a bit too far.. But I really couldn't care at all about the extended universe outside of the games.

I could see them makeing a skylanders movie the issue is besides what charcters would they use as the main charcters?

That's exactly why I think a series would work better.

That video is kind of old, so am not sure it's still part of the game plan here 2 years later. That's from the post Giants era which was absolutely huge for marketing and merchandising (tons of Giants toys and trinkets everywhere). I must admit, a cartoon or movie would help make the characters more relevant than just what we have now with the cycle of "out with the old and in with the new"...children and parents alike would connect with a cartoon rather than the "not another set of video game toys (cash grab)" feeling that's starting to set in is as the franchise drags on. Having characters based off a cartoon would infuse some much-needed life and a breath of fresh air into the whole Skylanders Universe and would do wonders for the longevity of the franchise.

Strategies have 5 year plans usually, still very relevant. Companies don't snap their fingers and make stuff happen, they have to plan months and years in advance.

That's not to say they can't and don't shift, but that's in direct to market conditions. I'm not sure what would've changed in the last year where they wouldn't want to make skylanders more pervasive. That's like saying I have this cool thing and I don't want to maximize my profit...which sounds silly since that's what companies do.

But what about the books and comics?Plenty of character and life explored there :<

Yep, definitely part of the plan. Just started reading the comics, actually impressed with the artwork so far...but man...I remember when there were 25 or 50 pages in comics...way too small for my tastes. You can hardly explore a plot in that many pages.

Minikaboom described in one of their great podcasts a great idea that would be awesome for the movie--to interact with your portal and allow you to select a skylander to be PART of the movie itself. That would be very interesting, especially if they were able to integrate scripts into the characters chosen.

I definitely think that either movie or direct to home market would be incredibly successful, but they have to strike while the iron is hot.
