We have MLP, Teenage Mutant Turtles, Masters of the Universe, Thundercats, Transformers, Strawberry Shortcake, Care Bears and now i've found Rainbow Brite.

Why can animators not come up with new ideas???

Please stop hacking away at my childhood smilie

It's not that people don't have any idea's.

It's just that re-booting is a trend right now. Just like how making movies of retro cartoons was popular in the 90's.

Well, rebooting a series is a good way of, in a sense, rebooting a community who enjoy something, and it benefits for original producers and the fans. Some series might also have been rebooted as a way of creators going back and revisiting their old works, whether that's to update it with a storyline or artwork which is more developed or just to see their creation in a different light. Also money.

Plus, you don't have to watch them. :P

Transformers prime would have to be on par with the g1 series if not even better and the 2012 tmnt series on nick is quite good it has many references to the 80's show. But oh god send those michael bay- live action movies of transformers and tmnt to the depths of hell oh yeah the smurphs movies too, the cgi ones.

Actually I heard the Pop-eye movie got cancelled. Heard that from this link.

That and they're trying to get kids back into the old cartoons and such. If they really wanted to hack away your childhood, they can be like Michel Bay and make it crappy (story wise). Or be like Ken Penders and take copyright over characters they do not own (or shouldn't in the first place), make terrible comics of such. With trash writing and art (not to mention he did steal some art from Archie the comic company, and pasted it in the first freaking comic page).

I watched the first minute of Transformers and i nearly cried at how awful it was.

I get that they want to introduce a new audience, but if you have a story that works why completely change it, that's the main thing that bothers me.

A few of the reboots haven't taken off, which isn't surprising really.

Because we're all too caught up in our 80s and 90s nostalgia. When film producers see how fond we are of past childhood things, they then think that producing it into a film will not only get the attention of today's children that they're trying to introduce the product to, but also to older fans who think "hey I remember ____!"

Admittedly that applies more to movies than TV but still. We're pretty damn nostalgic and nostalgia makes money. Why try to make something new and more risky if you can bank on someone's love for Transformers or TMNT or even Battleship?

Some reboots are alright. Personally I liked the LoS Spyro reboot, and I've played the original games (1 & 2). However TMNT is pretty bad...
It's also like the 'character reboots' that go through the transformation of old to modern. (Eg. Ratchet's design from Ratchet and Clank to the Future series) and I liked the new design!
Now Skylanders spyro looks.... Not that great admittedly.

Bay movies or Transformers Prime? The latter was a heckuva good series, the former, not even close.

Looked up the Rainbow Brite reboot. Looks like they're just trying to copy MLP: FIM... I mean I like Rainbow Brite. I can name all the seven Color Kids, but this reboot looks pretty bad in my opinion. I mean what's up with Starlite?
