Keep an eye out for your target
Now we all can admit that we sometimes jump to conclusion when it comes to new users. Especially if they post a lot for a starter, or maybe have a longer guestbook, avatar, signature and ect. We can't always assume that they're. That's why you should keep an eye out for their posts, and comments. Most alts may have the same intellect and similar posts as a well known or other user. This could be going towards their opinions on various topics and debates such as sexuality, religion, politics, government and ect. As much as they're trying to not be their real selves, deeply inside their head they know they can't stop standing up for what they believe is right.
Time Periods
You should always check if this user is online at the same, or different time as your target. They're normally offline when the other user is online, or the other way around. MOST of the alts tend to put themselves as Private Online Status, they do this to act more hidden and not to be caught out in the act. But it still doesn't stop you from wanting to know. That's why you go to the users guestbook and look at the time they last visited (even the minutes and seconds), so that you're sure that they're not framing an alt or secretly switching accounts.
Bring up other alts
I've noticed in my experience that alts tend to keep quiet when Alt Talk is going around. Especially if it's about the alt that they're hiding. They would likely stay out of it. Or just pretend like nothing happened. Another thing they might do, is lower their activity or leave permanently. But may come back when their whole of fame is over.
Watch Relationships between the Alt and the Other user
Now this is one of the most important ones, by far. The thing is, The user it's self and alts HARDLY or NEVER communicate with each other, the reason so, is that they're still cautious about anyone finding out any weird vibes, or dead or slight giveaways that they may be the alt of that user. As much as they want to cause trouble to the community, they would never communicate or even mention who they actually are.
They're cautious in posting in a admin/moderators guestbook
The reason being is they know that they're likely to be caught, especially commenting in a profile that knows their IP Address or can see stuff that average users can't.
Protecting themselves in an overcrowded argument
No matter what, they need to protect themselves to at least have someone on their side. It might sound stupid, but it's true. They protect themselves to feel better, especially when they're losing.
Watch their enemies
What I mean by this is, say they had a fight or argument on their first account. Then later they want to get revenge, instead of using the normal account, they decide to cowardly us the alternate to troll that user, and get them back in a way.
