Club Nintendo Shutting Down [CLOSED]

Official notice from Nintendo here.

Important bullet points (mostly apply to NA):

  • Club Nintendo in NA closes midnight (PST) June 30th. In Europe it's September 30th. All coins remaining on accounts will be deleted.
  • Products released after January 20th will not include a Club Nintendo code.
  • March 31st is the last day to register codes for coins or create a membership.
  • March 31st is also when the year cycle ends, and Elite status members get a free gift (from a selection of digital titles)
  • They intend to add loads of new items and digital titles in the coming months so members can use their remaining coins.
  • All Club Nintendo users will get a free download for Flipnote Studio 3D (now you can get your Sonic recolor videos in 3D).
  • A new loyalty program will replace Club Nintendo in the future, but no details are given.

This is very disappointing. I get the feeling whatever loyalty program they supposedly have coming up will not match Club Nintendo's peak. Don't get me wrong, I know it's been rather lackluster lately with only digital titles you could already emulate elsewhere. But the physical rewards were pretty damn great when they chose to upload some.

Particularly the Smash Bros poster set. There are 3 posters in the set, and in Nintendo World there are 9 official pieces of artwork, all of which could've become great posters. I sincerely hope they add them as posters in the coming months.

They also removed the online features from the U.S version of Flipnote 3D, rendering the app almost useless since you can't share your creations.

Sometimes I wonder if Nintendo of America's higher-ups have brains genetically modified by Iwata, and the special brains enable them to make the stupidest decisions possible. Yet, after all this, I still love them. Nintendo is a special kind of paradox.

Damn Nintendo. This was unexpected, and I'm not too happy they're closing it down. Ah well, I already used the points I had on the EU Club Nintendo to get my Luigi Relaxation Set. Worth the 6000 Stars.

I have 925 coins in my account, and have gotten a fair few Nintendo games over the holidays to put myself over 1200. I hope they give us some worthwhile stuff.

I have just been letting my stars (in the EU, we have stars instead of coins) build up for a while now, waiting for something really good to show up. If nothing shows up in the coming months, I have a few decent choices - a Yoshi Egg backpack, a Luigi Sleeping Kit (probably the most practical one for me), Mario Golf Balls, Mario Kart 8 Pin Badges, or the Super Mario Galaxy Soundtrack CD. There are other things but they don't interest me, though I might get them if I have leftover stars.

Which is why I quit going on the thing and haven't redeemed the last few codes I got. Smash, X, OR, AS, and I think another one or two.

Add those coins. They say that some of the many items they're adding in the coming months are physical (since they specified between digital games and other items). So maybe there will be something worthwhile to let this whole thing go out with a bang.

Yes. I'm fairly certain they just mean that games released beyond today will not have codes in them (e.g. Kirby and the Rainbow Curse).

Yeah, I have around 1500 coins. I hope NoA is going to find something worthwhile to replace this for North America, because Club Nintendo was not particularly beneficial for me in any way. *shrug*

Adding in the codes reminded me the other reason I don't go on often. The site is crap. Simply navigating pages got me logged out, then it made me enter each code about 3 times before they finally took.

EDIT: I've taken the Super Mario Galaxy 2 survey 3 times now and still haven't completed because it keeps erroring out.

This is really sad.

I know most of the prizes as of late were lackluster, but it was still a very nice and simple program to use. I have about 400 coins right now, so hopefully the prizes in February are cheap enough for me. If there isn't anything I want though, at least I can get Super Metroid.

Let you? No. What he's suggesting is pretty much theft. Seeing as how GameStop opens all their games to put the discs behind the counter, one can easily walk in, open up the case, write down the code, then go home and enter it on Club Nintendo.

If they catch you doing this you could get in trouble and it's mostly based on your own morals if you choose to do it. Though I wouldn't advise it. >.>

Well, whenever it comes back from maintenance (which it's been in every time I've checked since yesterday) I plan to try and get 3D Land.

Would've really liked something like those MarioKart trophies, but hey. I'm somewhat tempted to get Super MarioKart, MarioKart 64, & Mario 64 for the Wii, but my connection for Wii is a bit unreliable and I'm unsure on how long the codes would be good for.

Just got Doc Louis' Punch Out. I recommend that you get it; Punch-Out Wii is amazing and this version was very limited when it first came out.
