I didn't like Trail Blazer, Blastermind, Funny Bone, and Ka-Boom.
Trail Blazer looks like a My Little Pony, Blastermind looks like Elmer Fudd, Funny Bone for lack of imagination, and Ka-Boom looks like a gay Thor. Trail Blazer and Ka-Boom may look strange, but they can "clean house" in the Kaos Challenges. I still don't like Elmer Fudd and Funny Bone.

My answer extends to all characters
My biggest change in opinion hands down was voodood. I held off til very late in SSA to get him, this was after I decided I wanted to collect them all. his appearance bothered me a lot. but after getting him and finally getting around to leveling him up, I found him to be an extremely fun character to use, and was greatly upset that he never got a repose. Scorp, he was one of those awkward characters that I didnt like or hate, he just didnt stand out. the biggest thing that caused me to like him was the noise the poison balls make when they explode, idk why but its so enjoyable. Slobber Tooth, he never impressed me, usage or appearance. That was until I got the normal version of him and used his 2nd path, the suction one. I named him Kirby and now love him. Punk Shock, I got her for completion purposes and no real intent on using her much. I was wrong, she is easily one of my top 20 favorite characters now. I like that I can focus on larger enemies then have her auto shock take care of the smaller ones. And time for an opposite one... Warnado, I was so excited when I finally got him, but after using him... he fell flat, hes weak, slow, and generally boring to use. I still really like him, hes a cool character, but I just never use him. |

I didn't like and but now that I have them I like them. Similair happened with , I did like her before but not that much, now she's my second favourite fire skylander.
The opposite happened with too. I like his design but he's just too weak, I couldn't even finish the Nightmare Express with him. |

Hmm, well, I didn't care much for Double Trouble, but after playing him he's pretty cool, his series 2 is very powerful. so there's one.
Blast Zone and Roller Brawl already seemed interesting, but after playing them I liked them a lot more than I thought I would. Ones I thought I'd like but didn't? Huh. Not sure really. Prism Break is one of my very top favorites but admittedly playing him in SSF was a bit of a pain since he was quite underpowered. Still didn't remove his favorite status though, he's just too cool to dislike! |

Eruptor, I thought i would like him a lot, but he's just too slow, and one of his attacks are useless
Same with High Five too... I was surprised on how much I like Snap Shot, for a starter pack lander, I didn't expect much, but he's actually very strong |

Our perceptions of what skylander is good or bad usually means nothing until you actually play with them. Everyone thought Stink Bomb would be totally awesome...but nope...he stunk. It happens.

Heh... skunk puns...
Oh yeah! Back on topic! Most of my opinion changes didn't happen from level 1 to level 20, but from the changes between games. For instance, I got in the cannon battle pack, because my brother wanted the chop chop, which was fine. I really didn't like him that much in giants, as I thought he felt clunky, so when SSF came out, I practically ignored him until roughly a month and a half ago when I wanted to get everyone leveled up before christmas. I put him on and got him up to 20 real quick. I actually really liked him when all was said and done, I'm not sure what they changed (knock mechanics perhaps?), but he feels better now. As I said in the 'top 10 things you want to see in skylanders 5' thread, I can't stand in STT. They took out his knock mechanics and changed the timing is some of his powers, and he's just awful now. He was one of my favorites overall too. I hope they put him back in Skylanders 5. I think my last noteworthy opinion changed was my S2 Cynder in SSF. Couldn't stander her in Giants, thought she was fun on Swap Force. She's still mid teir, but just feels better now.

If someone ever made Skylanders into a MOBA, I'd be ok with that. |

Mine was in relation to the traps. before i got the game i didn't really like the idea, i had first planned to just get one of each element, then when i saw there was more than 8 sculptures, and an extra 2 elements, i planned on getting one of each sculpture, i wrote a list out and everything, worked out what sculpture to get from each element so as to not get too many in just one element.
Then i held my first 8 in my hands. 46 traps, 4 variants and more dollars than i care to work out later, i am looking forwards to the next wave of traps just as much as the actual figures.

This happens a lot to me, but the most recent significant one I can think of is Gearshift.
I was not too crazy about her aesthetically, but I liked her more than Jawbreaker, and I tend to get all the female characters because my daughter and I like them. When I first tried playing with her, I went with the Fragment Mode Freak path that boosts her ranged attack. It was strong, but it was also kind of boring to me. I really liked the feel of her melee combo and I really liked the big golden gears she throws out, so I eventually decided to reset her and go with the Dual Mode Duelist path. Holy ship, she's amazing on that path! I have so much fun with her now. She is now my favorite so far from Trap Team. I love tossing out 3 big gears and then using the melee combo. And her tertiary is of course great in any mode or path for getting around quickly. I love Gearshift so much now. If you have not tried the Dual Mode path and think you might like it, well, I highly recommend it.

Good point. AoA brings up several gameplay mechanics and how the enemy is supposed to react the attacks as one way the fun factor gets killed for a skylander---the other factor is general character nerfing or flat out not supporting the full set of effects/moves. Good cross development team checks and balances should prevent / limit this. I think they've done a good job (not great).

I think Trap Team marks the beginning of figures not getting anything new in new games (except the ones that get reposed) - and in many cases abilities get diminished. There is an insane number of playable unique figures in the game already, they have to find a way to make you want to use the new ones because as it is now most people have a huge roster for each new game before it even comes out. They want you to feel like the ones you bought already have value, but not so much you don't need the new ones.
They opened this can of worms with Giants (by necessity, people would have sworn the game off if they didn't). Now, not counting villains, you have 116 options that have to be tested and ready to load at a moment's notice, all able to operate and not be completely useless OR completely overpowered. If Skylanders 5 were announced and they made some figures not work there would be backlash. The only option now is to put them in there but not really do anything with them. |

I wasn't keen on Bat Spin at first because I thought she looked too similar to Hex and I didn't think her name is very creative. But after looking at her upgrade paths, I now plan to buy her soon.
When I first saw Jawbreaker, I was thinking "Oh great, another robot." and I only bought him because I thought I was gonna have a Trap Master of every element and because I think he looks better than Gearshift. But after playing as him, I don't mind him. |

I like Ka-Boom a lot too, but I like the bottom / jump path. I feel like it gives him much needed mobility and it does a lot of damage too. His cannonballs are still useful and I actually kind of like the single cannonball action when I decide to start shooting.

When my kids and I sat down pre-release to decide who gets which Skylander, I was thrilled with The idea of Lobstar, okay with Gusto, and eh with Bushwhack. My last trap master is Enigma. After playing with the three of them, Lobstar is cool but about what I expected, Gusto though not greatly powered is loads of fun to play, and Bushwhack is way way way above what I was expecting in both power and fun. He is a beast and has come to be known around the house as "Bad Axe". I have high hopes for Enigma, and I hope he lives up to the billing.

Jawbreaker. My hopes for him were pretty good, despite the generic design. But when I played as him I found out... he was terrible. His punch is just generic and doesn't do enough damage, his spark thingamaBoB is also weak, and wares off to fast, and I didn't even use the third attack except once to try it out.
Blastermind. His design felt boring, but once I played him, it was amazingly powerful. Throw in the soul gem upgrade that saves you time, and he is now one of my favorite, game play wise.
