Well, Blades is probably the strongest, of Wave 1, maybe also Chopper.

Wave 2: Fist Bump. No doubts. Followed by Déjà Vu.

Wave 3... It's difficult.
I'd say it's a tie between High Five and Bat Spin.

I haven't got Bat Spin yet, and even though High Five is like Drobot 2.0, Bat Spin seems better,

Well, I can say that Bat Spin is overall really fresh, and each of her attacks are pretty much unique.

High Five can become a spam-based poisonous version of Drobot, but only if you choose his upper path.

The lower one changes things COMPLETELY.
That, combined with his Soul Gem, really complete the character.

smilie, in my opinion, is the strongest core of them all. Don't believe me? Try him on TT. His damage is mind blowing, especially his primary & secondary attacks.
Another one I tried is Lightcore Grim Creeper. If you go on his scythe path, he does some wicked damage, though his third attack is weak. His Critical Hit score is.....280

Oh my gosh, you're right. Holy moly. Ghost Roaster in TT can apparently just spam the skull move on and off for about 1000 damage each time. What the heck?! Is that a bug?

EDIT: I tried him during a Kaos trial and he was doing 1/4 of what he was hitting the target dummy for... weird.
