What I did with Skylanders was I just stopped playing it for over a year after Swap Force came out. Now, coming back to it, there's so much stuff I don't have again that I don't really notice there being a lack of anything. If you're frustrated with the game, just give it up for a while and come back later. You might feel like you're going to miss out on that one item that'll cost a zillion dollars later, but that doesn't seem to be what happens. From what I can tell, anything I hadn't gotten in Swap Force or even Giants is still on shelves or eBay for the same prices it always was.

Other than Magna Charge, Punk Shock, and Scratch, you're spot on about Swap Force availability. As long as you're not bent on chasing after every single trap mold for Trap Team, taking a break and tracking down the figures later on might be a smart move for those feeling burnout or frustration with the game. |

Trap Team's releases and availability really hasn't been any different to past games for me, though the addition of the traps, and the fact i actually do want all the traps, has made me have to increase the size of the area i roam and the frequency of my hunting trips, just to find everything i want.

Sure, it can be annoying to consistently not find new wave 3 stock in most stores I go to. However, am not sure how much of that is Activision vs how much is due to the problems due to shipping these days with some port strikes. I do think folks who buy out all the stock and sell Kaos Traps for $50-60 are shameful individuals but the low stock has not ruined the game for me. It just made me look harder, join groups to learn more, have friends help look or just be more patient.
I think the constant increasing the cost of this game 30% or more every game has done way more to my Skylander psyche than a little delays. Hope Activision releases more Light and Dark Expansions and Kaos traps as those seem most limited to a greater percentage of folks I see. |

In response to those saying "waiting a bit isn't an issue" or "hunting variants is part of the fun"
I don't think you quite understand my issue. THERE ARE VIRTUALLY NO FIGURES. I have not seen a trap in store since launch day. Almost none of the stores that used to carry Skylanders do so anymore, those that do just have old Giant's stock to clear out or some TT Launch day figures. Pretty much all the online retailers are "OUT OF STOCK" on anything not a launch day figure. In regards to the "It's a manufacturing and stock issue" there are WAY fewer figures this time round than last. They could pretty much produce all the new ones in one wave. It's clear to me that shops just don't care anymore and are not stocking the figures. |

Amen! I totally second what you are saying here. Over the last few months, I have seen the Skylander real estate in my local Walmart change dramatically. Just last year they had 2 end caps and a half wall devoted to Skylanders figures. Now, all of the 'Toys to Life' figures (Amiibos, Disney Infinity, and Skylanders) are crammed into an 8 foot area. And of that space, there are about 12 or so pegs earmarked for Skylanders. With regard to stock, upon last visit, they had a single Enchanted Star Strike and some Gustos (of course...). I do realize that every regional market is different, but Calgary is a pretty big city and virtually all the Walmarts/TRUs here are reflecting the trend I stated above--heck, even our TRU Mall 'pop up' in the North just closed down. Right now the best bet is EB Games and TRU (which also have seen a severe reduction in 'space' (and stock) for Skylanders). And if you are in Canada like me, we are about to mourn the loss of an important hunting ground, aka Target. I know I could just buy on eBay, but the buying power of my dollar just ain't what she used to be, which is yet another negative. All in all, the best bet for me right now is being a faithful Dark Spyro member, and checking in regularly for postings about current releases. Getting an early scoop on stock and availability has been incredibly valuable for this Skylander collector--so thanks for continuing to post, fellow hunters! I truly appreciate it!!

The wait does suck, but it is nothing new for those of us who have been around since day one. Remember the wait between Camo/Zook/Warnado and Wham-Shell? That still gets the award for worst Skylanders wait ever... it wasn't that long, but it was agonizing. What's going on now isn't nearly as bad, though not having enough traps to trap all the in-game villains is, IMO, worse than waiting for a Swapper/Trapper with a certain power or element to come out so you can finish the game (Stink Bomb, Blastermind, etc.).
So, yeah, waiting is bad now, but it is NOWHERE NEAR as bad as a few waits during previous games' life cycles were. ....and hey, if you really want to drive yourself nuts over something, start collecting Amiibos. On second thought, don't; its a lot like collecting Skylanders if every third release was crazy limited and the scalping problem was x10 worse.

At my TRUs, here in the US, that's all I bloody see is Wave 2 cores, TMs & MoM.
Traps? Wave 1 & 2 now. No wave 3. Those I found at Target (2), Walmart (6) & GameStop (Rebel Lob Goblin) But then again, it's a slow time & Activision/TFB are probably getting ready for March/April in time for Easter. But Nintendo's the worst off, yet if saw on either EBay, or Amazon, for preorders of upcoming Amiibo as well as orders for ones that aren't currently easy to find in stores....at fairly reasonable prices.

Are you located in the US? Amazon.com has had pretty much every single Trap Team figure in stock within the past week without a markup. You must not be looking there. Your comments about not seeing any traps since launch day makes me assume you are not in the US. You should at least be seeing the ever so popular water traps if you are located in the US...they're flooding the pegs at all retailers where I shop. As the franchise progresses, I fully expect there to be lesser and lesser international availability and less visibility at retailers within the US. These complaints will only get larger as retailer sales decrease and kids move on from Skylanders to other toys. Retailers just aren't willing to commit much store real estate to the whole Toys For Life thing anymore. You should consider yourself lucky if you're seeing unique/distinct sections for Skylanders, Disney Infinity, and Nintendo Amiibos at retailers like Walmart and Target. More specialty stores like Best Buy, GameStop, and Toys R Us should have real estate to dedicate for years to come. |

No, Not US based. The only shops that have traps have the same 3 that were out on launch day and that's it.
Even Amazon.co.uk can't supply them. All you find are scalpers with packs marked up for £40 or £50 (around $70). I am not paying that much for a single figure. |

This is nothing new on these forums. It happens every other week with somebody boasting about something that gets the underpants of others in a twist. Seasoned veterans of internet public forums should be jaded and indifferent to it by now. I could care less if anybody on this forum gets a few Kaos traps or clears out a store's supply...I fully expect an opportunistic scalper to swoop in later on in the day (probably somebody who doesn't even play Skylanders) and clear them out if left on the shelf. The same people who whine and complain with a holier than thou attitude about not being able to find a Kaos trap because of people who buy more than one would just as quickly buy up 3 clear Tuff Lucks if they were to find them all staring at them in a store tomorrow...tough cookies...that's just how the world works...deal with it and move on. |

Also with the Kaos trap availability. The online sellers who buy their stock at department stores arnt really the problem . Scalpers arnt buying all the stock in every store in the world. the problem is that there's still a low amount of Kaos traps coming in on each wave in comparison to how many people want it.
the Kaos trap isn't like other figures, the Kaos trap is literally wanted by like 99% of the people that bought trap team . I don't think any other figure has ever felt so universally "needed " for the game before. . Even if activision had doubled the amount of Kaos traps released , they probably still would've sold out over Xmas. and really the Kaos trap has increased availability with each new wave so it probably gonna continue its trend in wave 4 , so just wait, capturing Kaos isnt a big deal. Side note... I would've ratherd traps to be released as kind of " boosters packs " where you can't tell what trap your gonna get. I think it would've made it a bit funner.

I've actually done quite well with my personal Trap Team collection so far, especially considering I started pretty much on Christmas Day. Every time a new Skylanders game comes out, I make a habit of pre-planning my collection to just the toys I like the most, which usually equates to around 12 core Skylanders, one of each element of that year's "gimmick" Skylanders and the add-on content packs. So far this game I have managed to find:
-5 out of 14 core Skylanders (still missing Spotlight, Fist Bump, Fling Kong, Flip Wreck, Echo, High Five, Cobra Cadabra, Déjà Vu and Blackout) -8 out of 10 Trap Master Skylanders (still missing Wildfire and Krypt King) -21 out of 30 or 31 Traps (still missing Beam Scream, Tempest Timer, Cyclone Sabre, Spark Spear, Oak Eagle, Dream Piercer, Rune Rocket, Ghastly Grimace and Dark Dagger; currently undecided about getting Arcane Hourglass) -3 out of 4 add-on packs (still missing Mirror of Mystery Adventure Pack) -No Minis as of yet, but 4 sets are really common As you can see, I've successfully found over half the toys on my checklist, though it is odd that so few core Skylanders are available in Australia (just Blades, Torch, Gill Grunt, Food Fight, Funny Bone, Love Potion Pop Fizz and Chopper). Still, part of the fun is in the chase, tracking down specific toys for your personal collections, and the rewarding feeling that comes with successfully finding one. Yes, Trap Team could well be my last Skylanders game for now, but not because of the frustration of not finding toys (it'd actually be due to my long-postponed tertiary education...off-topic word of advice: do NOT have a decade-long gap year!). Finding the toys is an important element of the experience. Um, pardon the pun.

1. Everyone who talks what they have isn't trying to show off their 'manhood' if you will. I bought the dark starter pack, my son then wanted his own Kaos figure, he told Lola (my mom) and she found two at target, giving us both. I searched multiple stores multiple times, she searched multiple stores multiple times, before she got them. I mentioned having an extra one to sell, but it wasn't for scalping purpose or bragging rights, hell I didn't even KNOW how much they had gone up in value (sold it for like $50). I've never found a metallic purple 'anything'. I never saw a crystal 'anything'. I've never seen a glitter this or a granite that. And if I did, I would most likely get on the forums and mention something in excitement, irregardless of keeping it or selling it. Why? Because only on here can anyone else appreciate a) what it is and b) the hunting involved. The internet is full of idiots, but don't make behavioral assumptions about them...tone is hard to expound upon in text. OR PEOPLE COULD TALK IN ALL CAPS!!!!!1!!!ONE!!!!1
2. Blind packs for traps would do nothing short of tinykitty me off. I hate it with DI, and after blowing money on the first game with them, I only did a handfull this go around, and then said "Tinykitty this tinykitty", and went about my business. 3. I know it would step on some toes, but I'm shocked that Activision doesn't just sell stuff directly from their website - online. It would solve a lot of headaches and put more money in their pocket. - Unreall |

Unreallystic, I got to admit...your #5 idea is friggin' brilliant. One, it would also hurt EBay & Amazon. Especially for the scalpels.
Also cut out the middleman, the retail stores. Or, even better, do something like an Apple store but Activision related. Not only sell Skylanders, but other Activision games. If you have questions, say about Skylanders, then a representative can help, whether it's tech support or, in my case, a figure suddenly crashes losing everying on it. Thus I had to buy another one of the same figure. Plus, they can sell rare, or special edition, figures & starter packs w/o paying the extreme high prices online.....ESPECIALLY FOR KAOS TRAPS, AS WELL AS LIGHT/DARK PACKS!

Activision doesn't sell things on their website because they no doubt have non-compete clauses in their contracts with stores. In order to secure prime real estate and large displays they have to agree they aren't going to undercut the retailers. Just look at Walmart, Activision obviously isn't "playing ball" to Walmart's satisfaction, therefore they are now getting reduced space compared to other figure properties.
Also, having direct sales isn't just a matter of setting up a webpage, you have to have a substantial fulfillment and order taking department, as well as additional customer service for handling order problems. |

Activision needs visibility for Skylanders in the stores. If everybody started buying direct, retailers would drop real estate in stores and the franchise would plummet to it's death. They survive on Little Johnny going into a store, staring up at a display, and picking out a Skylanders toy to bring home...and then telling his friends about it. It's not about how Little Johnny asked his dad to buy a Skylander online...no fun in that. |

Exactly. Collectors, especially around here don't really realize they are massively in the minority and aren't the "target audience" for this game. Target audience is pre-teen boys that may get a dozen figures a year - and they outnumber the collectors likely by a very large amount. It's easy to think, hey I'm buying 50 figures this year, they need to listen to me! They do listen, but they aren't going to adjust their marketing strategy to favor collectors over the base. |

Sadly I feel as if Wal-Mart or Target had BETTER exclusives they wouldn't be so quick to shelve the space for the other "new" toys for life. Say if the Nitro characters did something, the enchanted characters did something and weren't just a palette swap; un-like the toys R Us Legendaries, people would be more inclined to purchase them there. It has alot to do to with the sales point, Toys R us OVERSTOCKS like crazy and has a price hike, but it allows for lots of bogo50% off or buy 2 get 1; those things bring people in and even if there's only 1 skylander you want, most time peopel will buy those extras for their kids even if they weren't planning on it so they still get sold. Wal-Mart/Target/whatever never does annnything like that. And the exclusives they do have are very meh...why would i shop there? It'd be nice if: Activision had it's own basic store online. ((Cores, basic first release gimmick figures, traps or whatever the next thing is, mostly wave 1 or 2 for everything.) Basic Retailers had to only worry about smaller more interesting waves (get a normal stock of wave 1-2 at launch, repeat stock once or twice, then maybe a stock and a half of waves 3 - 4 that would include rarer figures, exclusives, variants, and ENOUGH BASIC wave fodder that the store can handle) Make exclusives worthwhile. (With none overlapping) With activision having a basics store it lets stores not be over burdened with basics/wave 1 - 2 forever. Mattel does this for monster high and it's really nice to have that back up.

Yes and no to the above.
I'm POSITIVE they have a they have a non-compete clause in their contract with Toys R Us. I don't even question that. Not so much anyone else who seems to stock them just like any other toy. With that said, everything else and even THAT could be gotten around in one fell swoop - since they obviously on some level have a partnership with TRU, you would purchase directly from an Activision web-page/space, but orders would be fulfilled BY TRU. TRU gets money, they still maintain their typical 'ahead of everyone' release schedule, no contracts are violated, etc. It could even be setup with in-store pick-up, functioning as another means to order things reliably, and presenting means for them to present variants and the such. I mean back in like 06, the Jordan brand did something similar, launching their own distribution web-site. To launch it they had an internet only variant of the Jordan 12s - the nubuck black/powder blue, along with a sweatshirt, socks, and something else. Heck, imagine if Activision could keep a firmer grip on interest this way, you could see them do things like bring back the dark starter packs - give them a second run if the demand is there. Acting as though its an impossible idea is a bit much. Activision simply isn't interested in the work, but hey - that shouldn't stop them from pushing things like this through a more 'intimate' retailer like TRU. As for the collector aspect, don't make the assumptions that collectors are only thinking of themselves. Not at all, quite the opposite frankly. I already have everything out minus Bat Spin and High-Five. I wouldn't use an Activision site unless they had some exclusive items right now either. My 'idea' was centered more around everyone who complains about not being able to find certain characters or traps, it would essentially be an 'Amazon with quicker and earlier inventory', and possibly less overhead, and who ships internationally, so folks who CAN'T get certain things reliably, CAN. Side note, retailers aren't supporting Trap Team for a less obvious reason than 'relationships'. As I and others pointed out before launch, Trap Team takes up A LOT of room. If you are going to SELL Trap Team, you have to carve out a LARGE space. The space Walmart gives Trap Team is the same size (actuaually a little more) than DI, which is the same they are giving the Amiibo. It's not a lack of support as its more "this is what we are willing to give it", verse TRU who is designed to move that kind of product. - Unreall |

I feel as if you didn't actually read my post. I never said anyone is only thinking of themselves and don't quite understand how you got that from my post.
"My 'idea' was centered more around everyone who complains about not being able to find certain characters or traps, it would essentially be an 'Amazon with quicker and earlier inventory', and possibly less overhead, and who ships internationally, so folks who CAN'T get certain things reliably, CAN." As was mine. And I explained how it could help other stores have space so they WOULDN'T have to expand their inventory, only use the space for newer items. "Side note, retailers aren't supporting Trap Team for a less obvious reason than 'relationships'. As I and others pointed out before launch, Trap Team takes up A LOT of room. If you are going to SELL Trap Team, you have to carve out a LARGE space. The space Walmart gives Trap Team is the same size (actually a little more) than DI, which is the same they are giving the Amiibo. It's not a lack of support as its more "this is what we are willing to give it", verse TRU who is designed to move that kind of product." I completely get this. I guess what I'm trying to say is also with this and having small stock is there is no reason for me to shop there since it's ALWAYS low stock/ bad inventory. I don't think many people actively check those places knowing they'll have the saaaame basic stocks as everyone else if I can go to Toys R Us for a deal and or a neat exclusive. Most of this is all tied together. My wal-mart has gone from having 2 entire aisles of figures to a small corner, and alot of that has to do with things that weren't getting sold. They had to clearance tons of things off and that's not a good thing for a store. I guess what I was trying to suggest was like your Jordan's example. I know how Monster high is done on Mattels site and their model could help exponentially for Skylanders as after whatever wave comes out, once things get hard to find they post that wave on their site from whatever inventory is left and it's very nice to be able to find that one hard toy for cost. They partner alot of times with amazon too, so they'll get like a "factory direct" exclusive or a guaranteed HTF doll in stock.

Other than that, I only need Waves 4 (except the Light/Dark Trap masters, which I I already have due to the packs) & Wave 5 (except Gear Shift, which I got 3 on the preorder, 2 are NIB. ) Which, if I do the math, is: Trap Masters- , & = 3 Cores- , , , :rocky roll:, & = 6 Minis- Life & Air (2 each) = 4 Traps - sword (3), rocket (2), spear (2), yawn (3) & upsidedown (3) Total = 13 ( not counting variants) figures & 13 traps I get mine when they first come out so I don't have to hunt as much, giving me more time to max them out

Its a variant... its meant to be more difficult to obtain and is in no way necessary for completion. If you want to get something, get it day 1. I ordered mine online from them to insure that I would have one. You only have yourself to blame for waiting too long Steamed broccoli guy is also discontinued, riot shield shredder was released in very limited quantities, the only villain variant that is majorly common is outlaw brawl and chain, targets have loads of them |

I think the biggest epic fail for Activision is to discontinue the light/dark packs.
They came out in December of last year. Now, next to a Kaos trap, they are difficult to come by except online That and all the screw-ups for Wave releases.

I can guarantee you they are NOT discontinuing the production of Light and Dark items. Only the Packs themselves. Since both Knight Light and Knight Mare are scheduled to be released in Single Packs, as part of Wave 4, maybe they want to sell the Expansions Packs with Spotlight and Blackout, and maybe no traps (since both Element's traps will be released in Single Packs too, not using the exclusive molds). They would NEVER make an Adventure Pack so unobtainable.

It would be hilarious if they made Blackout and Spotlight exclusive to a new Light/Dark pack (no singles) and released the Trap Masters as singles. It would teach all us early adopters a lesson.

Yep, definitely hilarious. Less hilarious for them, however, since I would wait for them to show up on eBay separately, instead of buying the Packs again. Doubt it would happen.

Just for the game, no. The only thing I'm missing right now for 100% completion is the Knight Light and a light trap (apart from the Spire itself and the mirror of mystery).
As a collector, however, the traps are a big turn-off. There are too many with not enough use. There is for about 300$ worth of traps already, which is money that would be better spent on the figures, or even - let's be crazy - something else altogether.

OmegaSupreme, I'm sure if they released everything day one, you, and people like you, would still complain. "I can't get them all, because I don't have $2000 to shell out! It's so not fair, because some guy did have that much, and now I can't find X figure!" You can't please everybody, and I think you're one of the minority here. It has always been like that. We all have to wait. How could doing it the same way as they always have done it ruin the game?

I'm sad there aren't more Magic villains, as it is one of the most interesting Elements. But, honestly, I would NEVER buy all the molds, and most importantly, not a trap for each villain. I think that it simply wasn't the way they intended it to work. A couple traps per Element, and then you switch your villains. I guess that was their idea.

They should have left Kaos as Magic. Then there would be a clear Magic Doom Raider and there wouldn't be this Kaos Trap fiasco with scalpers grabbing all of the limited stock. The Kaos Trap could have just been a bonus collector's item.

Me? I'm buying all of the traps. Whatever I don't use for TT, I can use them for the next game if they still use the traps. I wouldn't be surprised if they decide on a new gimmick. I hope not, because what else can they introduce as the next gimmick?
As for Light/Dark Swappers & Giants, as well as new cores for these elements, that I can go . If you look at it, these two would be the oldest of the elements, since these existed before Skylands was born. There was darkness before light, which came before the eight common elements.
