A lot of mobile games fall under this category for me. I do not understand why people like them as much as they do. The only good use I get from the one game I have (Bejeweled) is a distraction in the occasional waiting room. >.>

I can't agree more with this. I see so many people act like mobile games are the next greatest console game, but it's barely better than a digital form of Sudoku in my eyes. Some simplistic game to pass a few minutes when I have nothing better to do.

Other than that I would have to list Call of Duty & Grand Theft Auto.

I won't say I dislike the Galaxy games, but I find them to be a bit of a bore to me for some reason. I understand that they are greatly made games, the story is one of the best in a main series Mario game, I listen to the soundtrack a lot, and the visuals are stunning for 420p on the Wii. I just don't really like playing the game a whole lot though, I think it's just how linear they are compared to others like Mario 64 and Sunshine, which I love when a Mario game allows you to do what you want to do in a large level instead of guiding you on a set path. I honestly despise the idea of another sequel, as they've already done enough with the concept and I don't know what you can add other than HD graphics on a game that isn't even 8 years old yet. Give Sunshine a bone, every other 3D Mario game has gotten partner games (Mario 64/ 64 DS; Mario Galaxy/Mario Galaxy 2; 3D Land/ 3D World/ Captain Toad) and Sunshine gets the short end of the stick.

Don't even get me started...

Mario
Metal Gear Solid
Fallout
Resident Evil
The World Ends With You
Kid Icaris
Fire Emblem
Earthbound
God Of War
Rock Band 3
Megaman games outside the original franchise and Battle Network
Phantasy Star Online/Later Phantasy Star Games
Monster Hunter
Skullgirls
FPSs PERIOD

...This list really goes on for me. I love good video games, and I really love fighting games (Except Skullgirls), but I've found little to no enjoyment in a lot of these games.

Not a serie, a genre instead: it pains me to say this, because I like the idea of the genre and the high standard for story, but most RPGs. Just hate grinding, which seems to be a staple trope for the genre. It's not that bad in Mario & Luigi and Pokémon, so I enjoy those two, but I'm kinda scared to check out any others because I just expect excessive grinding to be a part and if I play too many RPGs, I'm sure it'd get old fast.

No I do not. Shut the **** up. I am sick and tired of people like you telling me what I have to like and dislike, which is why I hate those games so much. Before their fanbases drove me to actually hate those franchises, I already didn't have much fun playing them. But when I tell people I don't like those games very much, I get "**** YOU! YOU HAVE TO LIKE THOSE GAMES, OR ELSE YOU'RE SCUM!!!" Which in turn makes me loathe the games more than I already did.

Also, below post does describe what I don't like about Mario. The newer Sonic games, sure, may not be that good, but they at least feel like new games. Where the Mario games all look and feel the same. Plus, they always feel slow, slippery, and just plain enjoyable for me. I've always disliked the ear grating music, the uninspired bossfights, and just about every other part of the game including the fact it's main villain is FAR more badass than the main character, but no: Mario is god so I have to like it. smilie

I have no idea what you're hinting at. Sorry.

I mean, there's at least new badguys, new scenes and what-not. Mario games generally have the same villain, similar scenes, and mostly just feel like a showcase for one particular dumb furry costume Mario puts on instead of actually turning into something cool. Like Super Mario 3D world showcased the Tanuki furry suit from SMB3, while the one for the WiiU showcases the new cat furry costume and so on.

How about Galaxy with more open ended level design? Easy excuse for making Galaxy 3. Fan made mods (and heck, even some levels like Honeyhive Galaxy and Sunshine Beach Galaxy) have shown that open ended level design works with Galaxy's mechanics - after all, Mario controls just like he does in 64 and Sunshine.

the point is sonic games are crap quality. it usually takes a year to find a glitch in which you can beat a game within 30 minutes.

the scenes are badly written, bad guys aren't memorable.

mario stays true to what it is. a hop and bop platformer game with great level design, amazing visuals and challenging levels.

Not all the sonic games are bad, true. Some are even pretty good.

Take a listen to Sonic Boom's lines and tell me they aren't terrible.

1. How is it bad level design?

2. Play Mario 3D world on the Wii U and tell me it isn't pretty.

3. I never explicitly said they were hard. Most of the levels are easy or mid difficulty up until World 9.

4. Mario executes it in a way in which it's still fun and enjoyable. Mario also does try something different every once in a while and does add actual innovation. (super princess peach and the galaxy series)

5. No one ever told you had to like Mario, we're giving reasons on why we think it's not as bad as you think it is. I honestly do agree Mario games could step up the difficulty a bit due to their audience growing older and more experienced.

I'm not seeing anyone saying you have to like it. Nothing here looks threatening or forceful. The only angry posts I'm seeing are yours, Mugo.

That said, while yes I feel some of the core Mario Games are some similar in design and I'm not that into him, I do enjoy some of the more open-world type ones such as Galaxy & 64.

I must say I feel about the same about Sonic if not liking him a bit less. Most of his games are rather the same in design and feel, all about zipping form point A to B as fast as you can. Some of his side-games can be enjoyable, but in the end get old as well. On top of that, most of Sonic's level designs repeat throughout the games. Green Hill Zone seems to be in nearly every game as well as a Casino level in nearly every game.

I've gotta say Call of Duty. I've played it and I really didn't enjoy it at all. I just thought it was really boring and I don't see why people obsess over it. I've also gotta say Five Nights at Freddie's for the same reason.

I do think Candy Crush is kinda fun, but it's not worth paying for. All the the other game that are obviously the same exact thing but with dogs or cookies or something are also pretty pointless.

I'm also kinda getting sick of Mario games. There are way too many that are practically the sane thing.

And Clash of Clans is driving me Insane. After seeing people at my school practically worship the game, I was excited to try it out when I got my first smart phone. It was so boring. I hate game that require you to wait for like hours or days for something to happen. Why do are the boring games always the popular ones.

I've heard MUCH worse than in Sonic boom.

1: You mean besides the fact it forgoes actual level design in favor of pointless gimmicks that they basically add just to make bland level design seem more interesting than it is?

2: Played it, not impressed.

3: The last world in recent Mario games is medium at best. Before that, it's almost effortless to win, especially when you have cheap powerups available to destroy badguys with.

4: Bull. His games are almost always the same, and they have been since Mario Galaxy 2. They don't change much at all really.

5: If you're not telling me to like Mario, then shut up. Telling me why you like it IS basically telling me I absolutely have to like it.

That's because you don't see it. If they weren't trying to force me to like Mario, they would stop defending it. By trying to defend it, they are showing that they do not respect my opinion, and thus are basically trying to force their opinion on me. As if they're saying "Oh noes, he said something bad about the almighty Mario! If I don't say something good soon, I think I will die of depression." If you truly respect my opinion on Mario, stop telling me why his games are oh-so great and let's just leave it at that. Also, I've had this treatment for years. I have a right to be angry.

1. While we may have different level design preferences, some of it really was really clever IMO.

2. We also may have different visual level preferences too. I honestly thought it was very beautiful looking.

3. I may not be good at video games as you are, so it may be more easier for you.

4. Did you even read what I said? Nintendo did at least try to do something different by adding some lore and character development to a character in Mario Galaxy, adding an emotional ending to Galaxy and decided to make Mario the "damsel in distress" in Super Princess Peach. I also forgot to include Super Star Saga, Sunshine, Paper Mario, Super Mario RPG. Miyamoto, the guy who develops these games himself said that devs should avoid making games that feel and look the same. You're really only focusing on the old parts of Mario. Each Mario game brings something new to the table and brings old and true. If you take a look at past Mario games, you'll see little variances in the games that make them totally different experiences. If every game played similarly to Super Mario Bros on the NES, then the series would've died already.

5. Just because I'm defending a game I like doesn't mean that I'm trying to force you to like it. You would probably do the same if I said Sonic was a bad game.

I don't see them trying to force it on you. I more see them trying to defend after you puke all over their favorite game. Honestly, Sess' original post seemed rather like a joke to me. The emote, lack of caps, and "lol"ing seem evident it isn't to be taken seriously and is more a joke to go along with CAV's post that seems to come off more as a joke-hurt as if you just said his waifu sux. Sure, it may have been a little rude, but there has definitely been worse on dS and enough time in S&N comes to show posts like that are likely jokes.

After that, your following post said how Sonic so much better and how Mario is absolutely awful listing a number reasons why the game should be considered garbage, especially the music which many fans of the series enjoy. If anyone went on about my favorite games like you have been about Mario and made them out to be utter trash, I would defend them as well. Not because I'm trying to change your mind, but in that even if you dislike the game to respect that it has elements that others could find enjoyable even if it isn't your cup of tea.

Like earlier when CAV listed Kingdom Hearts I had a bit of a "D:" reaction, but left it as is since it is just his opinion he doesn't care for them. Now if he'd called Shimomura's beautiful soundtracks "ear-grating", boss fights "uninspiring", and with "very bad level designs", as you did with Mario, this argument could be going on between very different people. I've read through every post here and don't see them trying to force their opinions on you. It may have happened to you in the past, but not here. I more see them defending their own opinions after you've been telling them they're horrid.

Did I not say since Galaxy 2? It's the recent games that have mostly been rehashes. And really, they have not brought much new to the table at all really.

Then stop telling me why Mario is oh-so great. For once I'd just like to say "I don't like Mario" and not have people acting like it's their mission to defend that stupid fat Italian plumber. Also, that's kind of different, because Sonic gets the EXACT OPPOSITE treatment that Mario gets. Instead of people rushing to his aid every time someone says something bad, a person is treated like scum if they even dare say anything GOOD about Sonic.

You're STILL being a jerk, whether you see it or not. I'm not taking anything too seriously, you are just refusing to take responsibility for your rude attitude.

Alright, I'll admit that I was being a bit rude, but you're the one that's overreacting and thinking that everyone is "attacking" you and "telling you what to like".

My point is that no one is telling you what you have to like. No one gives a **** about what you like.

What MoonHorzion's is doing is bringing up counterarguments for your claims, which is normal in any debate.
He's not trying to change your mind or make you like the series, so grow up and stop acting like the damsel in distress.

Also, how about we don't derail this topic any further? I'm pretty sure JCW doesn't appreciate it. :/

You ARE being rude. You're also wrong. Even if you don't realize it, you and the others ARE forcing your opinions, cause if you really respected my opinion, and if you really did NOT want to force Mario onto me, you wouldn't say anything about my opinion. PERIOD. I am NOT overreacting, and I will not stop being angry until people stop posting about how oh-so special Mario is. Please, for the love of god, SHUT UP ABOUT MARIO! I hate the franchise enough already.

Oh, so now I'm "puking" on the Mario franchise? Is that it now? And you ****ing wonder why I LOATHE that franchise! I am sick and tired of fantards like you.

I never said Sonic was oh-so godly, not like you are saying that about Mario. If someone bashed a series I liked, I'd just leave them alone. Sonic is the main exception to that because I'm so sick and tired of hearing about how much his games suck and how people just want to rub it in the faces of the few Sonic fans left. I mean god, I get it, the new game sucks, write a book about how bad it is, jeeze. Between that and hearing how Mario is oh-so godly and oh-so flawless and how I absolutely HAVE to find value in that ****ing franchise, I don't know what is worse. Whether you choose to see it or not, yes you ARE trying to force your opinion on me.

So again, SHUT THE **** UP ABOUT MARIO! STOP DEFENDING IT AND ACCEPT I DON'T LIKE THE FRANCHISE, AND I
NEVER!!!

Alright, I was trying to stay calm and neutral about this. However, since you are ignoring an earlier post I made where I did state that I did somewhat agree Mario isn't that great and only really cared for Galaxy & 64 not counting MarioKart of course (so I'm not a "fantard" thank you), and instead are choosing to swear at me and call me names, then forget that. Actually you went out of your way to remove that portion of my comment when you replied to it just so you could continue ranting. I'm not trying to defend a series I haven't played that much and am not that into. I only wanted to calm down your currently hostile tone and hopefully get the fighting to stop. So you know what, I'm done, have fun on your little tirade and good job alienating the only person who even partially agreed with you. smilie
