This is a topic to help elaborate why these villains are classified in these elements.
Dark
1. not that he needs an explanation, but he's basically a shadow thief with stealth within the darkness.
2. Eye Scream another obvious one a demon with eye ball minions.
3. Fisticuffs is a brawler who probably enjoys underground battles in darkness like dark groups who sport private dark battles underground.
4. Tae Kwon Crow is one a lot of people question and here is my answer. He is a shadow ninja trained in the dark arts of martial arts. While he doesn't sport a stealthy move like Nightshade, it is pretty obvious he is an evil rogue ninja who had probably played dirty and uses his martial arts skills for evil.
Light
1. Luminous: again no need to explain, but he's a being of pure light.
2. Lob Goblin always talks about electricity which is mainly classified as light. That is why he is all bout light and not tech.
3. Eye Five shoots light from his eyes and energizes himself so he can move faster. Also plays with irony that an eye monster would be about light when it could easily blind him.
4. Blaster Tron is a tricky one to describe, but he is a robot purely based on light attacks. Yes he's a robot and could have just been a tech villain, but remember he uses infrared light beams to scan and shoot enemies and seems to be powered solely by light energy so that is why he is in the light element.
Whether or not you agree with my opinions, I just wanted to help clear the confusion and hate it when something is not clearly explained. I want to at least have a better idea as to why they chose these elements for these villains.

What I'm very unhappy about is the fact that there's a dark gate paywall inside of the light expansion level paywall. Yep, they're using double paywalls now. I expected the expansion level to be fully available to me (since you know, I PAID FOR IT) or at least using the trap master paywalls. Technically, this is a triple paywall, since I also had to pay for the game.

How does this relates to Light and Dark villains...? However, yes, the WHOLE Trap Team is a double paywall, when you think about it. I didn't care that much, as I got both the Expansion Packs more or less on the same period, so when I encountered the Light Gate inside Midnight Museum I just thought "Well, it will have to wait 'till Christmas", but I admit I would have bet that was a DARK Gate. But that wasn't a right move, I agree. HOWEVER, you DO need Knight Light to access the Light Gates in the main game anyway, soooo...

Well technically back on topic...anyone can rationalize to some degree how these villains got classified.
Remember the good old days when you really didn't need to explain it? And it was all self evident? If they can't do that to the game, it loses magic. It becomes more of a chore. And that's how I feel about the villains in general.

At first, I just tried a villain and said "Why is he from that Element...?" then as soon as I used one of his attacks I hit my face and said "OOOOOH, THAT's why!".
Still, Tusse Sprout is and will always be a "lost" Life villain, to me. That being said they almost never missed this things with the Skylanders. At first sight, you could immediately say from which Element a certain character comes. Except for my dad. Today I asked him to pick up my only Dark Skylander. He grabbed Knight Light. However, there IS a Skylander that looks like it would have fit perfectly in another Element, design-wise. Only one. Rattle Shake. A perfect Earth character.

I guess it's in the eye of the beholder, since snakes in some culture could mean fertility, and therefore life. In Greek mythology snakes were associated with immortality with endless cycles of destruction and creation. In Christianity, the serpent means evil as it is the instrument of the fall of man (Adam and Eve). I tend to see snakes as an instrument of death as opposed to something earthy since it crawls on the ground.

Sure, it's like the majority of the people here, who dislike Gusto's design, when he's a Skylander-ish version of an oni, a japanese demon often related to weather or elements. However, what I'm "criticizing", about Rattle Shake is his design. The color pattern, the clothes and the overall feeling. His attacks and Soul Gem totally fits his Undead allignement, but if I didn't saw his base, I would have thought he was an Earth character, with little to no doubt.
