has activision stopped making lightcore and dark variant because of the new light and dark elements?
the lightcore and dark variant where the only one that interested me because you got more than a new color sceem.
ligthcore give you a light up effect a flashy enter-ans,
dark give move attacking power by linking skylander to the dark powers (i like that premise of using controversially, dangerous power for the grater good)
also dark spyro is a grate shout out to the los games especially considering he was the first to get a dark variant.
with these variants being so mush fun why are activision drooping them? will they return in the 5th game? will they connect them to the new elements?

Lightcores were not made for trap team due to them wanting to add the minis. Its possible that they may return for 5 but thats a huge wait and see.
We still have dark variants, there was the dark starter pack, so those are still hanging around |

^Had nothing to do with minis, and they could've added them to the Trap Masters (and frankly should have).
Lightcores can not and will not sell by themselves as cores with higher prices...especially not without wow pow capabilities. Also, people don't need dupes of the same characters. It's better to use lightcores as part of gimmick landers or location pieces where they are charging more anyway. I'm completely disappointed they weren't on the Trap Masters; I felt I got less for my money on those. Also, they need to bat 1000 on making these lightcores cool...I think they conceded too much and compromised the "cool factor" on many of the ones they did implement. So in my opinion...if they can't do them right....(which they weren't)...don't bother. I also think the bean counters said don't do it to improve their margins.

Absolutely agree. The only lightcore Skylanders I own are the Giants. And I think this is saying a LOT. Now, Dark Dark characters would be quite interesting to see. Or even Lightcore Dark. Or Lightcore Light. You got it.

Let's see...we have the LIGHT element and none of the cores and trap masters are using lightcore? Whoops...totally missed out a TOTALLY GOOD application of the tech.

I was referring to the figures labeled lightcore as was the intent of OP, not like giants with lights. minis are trap teams gimmick cores, like lightcores were for giants and swap force. therefor minis are taking up the slots that lightcores once occupied. I do agree though that i wish the trap masters weapons would light up like they do in game |

Well, they technically made a return with the Light and Dark Adventure pieces. Both of them light up and are considered LightCore on the "Magic Moment" screen.
I would definitely expect for them to make a comeback, but I personally think that Activision should revise multiple things about them. 1. Don't make a LightCore AND a repose of a character. They avoided it with SWAP Force. 2. Choose popular/hard to find characters to be made into LightCores. Wham Shell and Warnado were great choices last time. 3. Don't make a LightCore version of a new core. I mean, really. 3 Bumble Blasts? 3 Countdowns? If they're gonna do that, don't make an Alter Ego of them. 4. More dynamic poses. I can't stress this enough. Compare LightCore Grim Creeper to the normal Grim Creeper. Too similar/bland.

I would tend to agree to make lightcores based on CONSUMER DEMAND of PAST characters....also since they don't need to worry about coding a wow pow...it's technically no brainer for them.
I'd love to see a lightcore Ghost Roaster during his Skull Charge ... and find a way to emit multiple colors... I'd totally pay $15 for that. In fact, if you get down to it...WHY NOT have the Elites utilize the tech that way? Now I'd feel a non repose with a lightcore would totally be more worth it than a repose with a little gold paint. It would have to blow my brain away though.

Yep, if the figure doesn't support something completely and utterly AWESOME and worthy of a thunderous BOOM! then don't do it.

Lightcore does exist technically in Trap Team. If you put one of the new light or dark element zones on your portal, they do say lightcore on them. Not sure why, but they do. Almost seemed strange to see the phrase there, but it was there.

They may want to watch it. They gave TRU the LIGHTCORE license exclusivity, and this is being sold everywhere.

I'd rather have series 2 Ghost Roaster than Lightcore Ghost Roaster. The Lightcore Wham Shell and Warnado were nice to get lit up and reposed, but I would rather have a Wow Pow move and pay a few bucks less rather than pay a few bucks more for something that lights up and has the exact same set of moves as a series 1 character. |

i was disappointed that there wasn't a Lightcore set of figures for Trap Team, though the minis added 2 extra reposes per element.
From the purely physical figure/toy standpoint, it was nice to get an extra, different pose for characters. i preferred them over repaints. One day i'll work out a way to get them to light up on my self without needing to be sitting on a complete portal.

Ok, here's what I think.
No matter how they will look, and what WOW POW they will have: I will NEVER buy a repose of a character I already own. I won't spend 10 or more bucks on a Skylander that I already have, and would only give me a different ability and a different pose. No way. It's already expensive trying to get one of each character, without looking for reposes of them. Not only, but even the "it's easier to find older figures" isn't worth the gimmick, in my opinion. Not only I can still find, and buy, Giants AND even SA's characters, but even if I wanted their S1 version, and couldn't find them on the shelves, there would still be online sellers (like Amazon) and re-sellers (E-Bay) where I could find them even at lower prices. That being said I respect their idea, and the time they take to give old characters new powers and looks. Just, choose the Skylanders more wisely. Why have over 10 reposes of Gill Grunt, and not a single one of Sunburn? Not going to mention Lightcores, Darks, Legendaries and various other variants, because, well, they are just variants. It's a matter of personal tastes (except for those ones, like the Nitros, who actually have enhanced stats). Even the Lightcores are just reposes with a special OP attack. I like how they limited reposes A LOT, with Trap Team (not counting Minis, even if they are reposes, in the end). This means less money and time invested in making something that isn't strictly "necessary".

In the end, I'll take him any way I can take him. But to other comments: We got the new reposes this time, and outside of registering them, they've not been. used. yet. So I think this family's officially good for no reposes and variants next go round for sure.

If Activision decided to stop producing Dark Editions and LightCore figures, then that's their prerogative. Also, it is actually so awesome that they introduced two new elements. My new number one favorite element is Dark.

Light application is key. No idea on a pose for a new Ghost Roaster but i had an idea for lights. Clear gold or white eyes that lit up (no pupils/iris) and then a deep red glow from inside the chest (thin plastic in front to express ribs more) or light slipping out from inbetween the ribs Quote: sky-dragon
Or when they come close to those crystals that only trap masters can break o.O make them more responsive to what is going on in the game lol

They produced a set number of dark editions for Trap Team AND they're sold out practically everywhere. All things said and done, the supply almost equaled the demand through December. No shelf warmers and those who tried to pick it up during the first 2 months of release got one either in store or online. There's no reason why they shouldn't release a dark edition for the next game if they were profitable with the amount they produced this time around. Quite honestly, I think the only reason they sold out pretty much everywhere in December was because of the inclusion of the Kaos trap in the dark edition. If no Kaos trap, I fully believe we'd still be seeing dark editions in stores right now and a fire sale come summer like GameStop did with their exclusive Swap Force Dark Starter pack. |
