Hey, new here and new to Skylanders as a whole. My little brother got Trap Team for Christmas and has a few Traps, Trap Masters and 2 regular Skylanders.

I was wondering if there were a general consensus or recommendations for which upgrade paths to follow for each character? I see that you can just reset if you want to pick the other one and then level up again, but it'd be nice to save some time. Or does it just come down to personal preference with them all?

I read that the Kaos challenges and Arena challenges are the best ways to level up and get money - is this true?

How important is getting a Kaos Trap? Is it only used to be able to play as him? I live in Australia so if anyone has any knowledge considering availability, please respond.

Sorry if these have all been asked before. If so, please redirect me to them! Thanks in advance :-)

welcome to skylanders i will answer what i can

i typical pick for upgrade paths the attack i use most
kaos challgenge is defintely the best at cash expsecial the final level
the kaos trap is super important i would get one it you find it and yes its the only way to play as him as of right now and you need a trap for each element to trap a villain from that

Thanks for the response! Yep, I've got one Trap for each element - excluding Light, Dark, Unknown(?) and of course Kaos.

More responses for my questions in the OP would be appreciated, thank you :-)

Also... just any overall tips or tidbits of info I should know to make my Trap Team experience greater for myself and my younger family members?

On paths: My son and I review the paths by looking at the POWERS for a given skylander...and make an assessment. Here's the thing: there's no REAL wrong answer here...however if you don't like how that path plays you can RESET the character and start over, but you'll also be at level 1 with no gold as well.

Kaos Trap and Doom Challenge (the last challenge) will allow you to quickly upgrade your skylanders provided you have a trapped and Evolved Kaos to use with the trap. He's the most powerful character in this game so accomplishing pretty much anything in the game on the harder difficulties will be much easier. Is he required? Nope.

If you get an earth trap, I would trap the Chompy Chest villain (I believe he's in Monster Marsh) and use him in first level to get 3000 coins in under a minute. If you have a winged boots magic item (from first game) you can reduce the time this takes considerably. You can also play skystones in the main story mode, and also play Kaos Doom Challenge or Brock's challenges to get money. Find what works for you...there's no wrong way to do this...but there are places plenty in the game to accommodate money for purchases.

Hint: Try and collect as many sapphires in the main story mode as possible to make the upgrade purchases for your skylander cheaper. Of course, you'll need to play through the game to find them.

^ And requires two $30 "expansion packs" for a total of $60 (plus tax) if you want to play that level and/or unlock any of these unknown areas in story mode.

Every toy works in the game that it was released with, and all games afterwards (although some of the items lose part of their functionality, like Location pieces can't unlock the same level in a later game, but can still be used as a magic weapon in the later game). Characters don't lose any functionality, but sometimes have rebalanced stats and abilities, and sometimes gain abilities (like jumping in Swap Force, and using attacks mid-jump in Trap Team). The Sidekick figures even gain the ability to be fully playable characters in Trap Team, with the same amount of power as their Series 1 equivalent.

Also, some non-mini Skylanders work in a game released before the figure, but only if some form of that character existed in that game. Springtime Trigger Happy is playable in Spyro's Adventure, for instance, but he appears as a regular Trigger Happy, and doesn't have access to his Wow Pow or Path-Switching, while in Giants, he'd have access to his Series 2's Wow Pow and path-switching, but not his Series 3's Wow Pow. It isn't until Swap Force that he gains his pink coloration, his S3 Wow Pow, and the ability to unlock the Springtime hat.

The way I decide what path i choose is which path makes the skylander most unique, i.e. smilie Honey path, smilie Eye path. I only have a few exceptions like with smilie i went with the regular boomerang path.
