Sick of Dark/Light threads? Great, you've found your new home.
So, are you looking at all of the light/dark threads and wondering what the big hub hub is?
I mean, we're spending $60 for:
1. ~40 min of gameplay
2. Two Trap masters. It's TfB's marketing for "higher priced skylanders"
3. Two traps. So you can play as the handful of remaining villains.
4. The new elements...are just another type of paywall.
I love how this has "somewhat" extended this game, but the price to entry is simply toxic. Anyone else amused by all of this excitement?
OK, off to see the Hatred intro...

I am, Ghostroaster. But I figure soon it will be like yesterday's piece of bubble gum. I figured I have so much involved in TT, might as well as go with the flow. Some may find me a hypocrite, but I am The Insane 01! My mood swings like a pendulum, fluctuates like the stock market, etc.
My likes and dislikes are fickle. What maybe is interesting now will be dull & boring the next day. That's who I am.

A waste of $60 if you ask me. You're better off buying Smash Bros for the Wii U or a new game for another system. There have been so many amazing game sales in the $20-30 range in the past few weeks. Even if TRU throws out a buy 1 get 1 40% off sale, you're shelling out $51.20 plus tax for both packs since they conveniently charge $32 for these. |

These packs also let you access all the Light and Dark Elemental Gates inside the game. I'm not "incredibly excited", in just normally excited like every time I buy new Skylanders/traps/Adventure Packs.

Effectively forcing you to spend $60 to 100% complete a game that you've already spent a heap of money on by the time people have purchased the starter pack and one of each type of trap master. A real rip-off when you think about it. I mean sure it's no big deal if you intended to buy those characters anyway, but for those that just want to get all their stars it's a terrible rip-off. |

It's still less a rip-off than "forcing" you to buy the various Elements Trap Masters sold separately, to achieve the same purpose, if you think about it. At least Knight Light and Knight Mare are included in Packs that also give you 2 new levels and two new traps to play with new villains, and can only be found there, at least as of now. They didn't handled the Trap Master gimmick in the best way possible, but at least you get more than just two "key" characters, this time.

True but don't you also need Knight Light and Knight Mare to open the unknown element gates to 100% complete the standard game?
I agree at least there is a little bit more with the 2 new levels, but it seems a lot to pay for a small amount of play time. |

my feelings towards the Light/Dark stuff are no more or less than i usually have for a new skylander , a new level or something able to open a new gate.
i am excited about the elemental packs, but this is mainly because of what they open and allow to play, light/dark gates, light/dark villains and two new levels, as well as some very nice looking figures, traps and location pieces. the fact that they are new elements doesn't excite me any more or any less, i am just as excited for Knight Light and Knight Mare as i am for Blastermind, but i am more so for the elemental pack mainly due to a compound of excitement, if that makes sense, figure/elemental gate + trap and new villains to use + new level. i've pretty much moved on from TT now, i level up new figures as i get them, assign a villain to a new trap and then do its quest and then put the disc away again and the figures in their spot on my shelf. the Elemental packs won't be any different, though it will give more to do, being a level and unlocking the new gates.

The game has always been overpriced in terms of cost to content level, since SSA first came out. Complain that $30 for a figure, trap and adventure piece is too much, but $25 for a smaller figure, adventure piece, and 2 useless is ok? If you don't think the game is that much better then others, or you don't enjoy the collecting, or you don't use the figures outside of the game...then there are better games for you to spend your money on period.

Yes you are quite right. Well not about the better games thing. I don't play any other games at all. There was a time where personally I did enjoy collecting all the characters. Never used them outside the game but liked collecting them. Then Activision released how many this time around? Heaps and heaps if you count the mini's. But this time I have played through the game a number of times before the next figures have been released, unlike other years where I had brought most of the figures but didn't play the game until after Christmas. And now the difference between toy cost vs. game play benefit is more noticeable than ever. Add to this the fact that to play every part of the game I HAVE to buy new characters, rather than being able to unlock things with the well over 100 characters that I have already purchase. Well, it's just really rammed home to me just how big a rip off this game really is. Still fun to play though. Particularly now that I don't worry about buying every character. But it's hard to argue that the game isn't all about ripping money out of people's wallets. |

Yes, you need them just like you need at least a Trap Master for each of the other 8 Elements. But the thing is, with every other Trap Master you only get him/her, period. There are no Double Packs or bundles, for them. The only way to get the Light and Dark ones also provides you with something else. As for the Adventure Packs level, I think we should actually play them, before judging. Sure, there are a few gameplays on YouTube (that I didn't, and don't want to see), but, are they truly 100%? Time is relative, and everyone percepts it differently.

I am very curious how they handle these new elemetns in the next game....will there be "crystal" dark/light elemental gates with (yawn) more hats and treasure for you to 100%?
Or...maybe....these two elements are one and done...since it's in connection with Cloudbreak Prison.

I hope for the latter. They seem to be the only Dark and Light characters, according to their backstories. And I'm personally perfectly fine with it. The last thing we need is 2 new full fledged Elements with a completely new set of Skylanders... 8 is perfect, let them be minor Elements.

The disconnect isn't hard. When I was kid and played with toys, they were posable, even my TMNTs and he-man toys could at least rotate arms and legs - not comparing it to modern toys that have functional 'everything'. I understand FULLY why these aren't and am NOT complaining about it - so don't read that out of my statement, but these 'toys' may look like toys, but beyond toddler/really really young age, they don't stack up to actual toys. My son is 3.5 and he likes to mash the figures into each other, so he's started building up his own collection so he doens't damage the family ones, and for XMas |spoiler|I'm|/spoiler| getting him...err Santa is getting him the playsets, but it's only been since he's turned 3, that they've become toys 'outside' of the game, but who knows how long he will be satisfied with them as physical toys when there are things like Master Chiefs with posable 'everything'. I can't lie though, that would be a great direction for them to go when they feel they've outgrown the current NFC tech - posable figures that use potentiameters to measure where joints are to interact with the game. It would help push them as physical toys, somethign they really need to do at the rising cost points. - Unreall |

Honestly, if the franchise is to continue, I think Activision/TFB/VV ought to ask what we want for the next game. It won't last if we don't continue buying it.
I mean, seriously, how many reposes can you do of the same figure when there those from SA who've never seen a repose. Another thing is that they ought to reduce the number of characters for each game after TT, so our older ones aren't just sitting on the shelves collecting dust. If you're going to introduce a new element, see how the fans think about it before doing it. I don't mind the two new elements, but next time shed some light on the subject so we don't feel left in the dark. Old saying- "if isn't broken, don't fix it." Removing some of our favorite perks from previous games was so wrong. Getting rid of PvP, Heroics, Legendary treasures that acted like hats (SF), etc. Why? So you can downsize the game to make us feel dumb? The great thing about SF was length of the game. It kept us interested while we waited for the next group of new figures to come out. TT felt like a sitcom. Okay at first, but then you want to be further entertained yet can't because there's new characters being added. I want the franchise to continue and last as long as the Mario Bros, but if Activision/TFB/VV go down the path they're going.....well the franchise will fade away like many other iconic games that became too repetitive.

Yes, to me, they have two acceptable ways of "evloving" the Light and Dark concept: - keeping them as they are, minor Elements with just these four Skylanders; - adding all the remaining characters to develop them just like the other 8 Elements. That includes a Giant, two Swappers (maybe with two new abilities?) and one Trap Master per Element, along with all the remaining Cores. They could release them across the future titles, or simply focus on them for Skylanders 5, and just release one or two Cores for the other Elements. Oh, and maybe also justify them with some adequate "lore" related details. Quote: Unreallystic
Mmmh... They might do posable gimmick Characters, but I don't think they would also create posable Cores. The costs would levitate too much, and there are already people complaining about them now. Quote: Insane01
Frankly, the whole "if isn't broken, don't fix it" thing sums up SWAP Force perfectly. It was longer (not that much longer), but, was it more enjoyable? I personally find Trap Team to be much more entertaining, and a great return to the origins of the franchise. Even with all the removed features.

Honestly, they did what you asked, and I think Trap Team is better for it. Drek kind of hit it on the head already, but level length? Fixed. Reposes? Sure we could classify the minis as reposes, but all in all, it was fresh, and there were VERY few reposes. I can't sit here and honestly complain about anything not content/cost related, they GAVE ME what "I" wanted in Trap Team. They fixed the loading, the syncing for the most part is good, even the older characters were put at a powerlevel where you don't feel nerfed playing them like you did in SF. Sure the Trap Masters are stronger, but at least I CAN play as Stealth Elf and not feel 'weak'. Heck the 'trap team' idea was essentially crowd sourced from people who wanted to play as the villains...and frankly I think executed pretty well (still feel ALL villains should have 3 attacks...) Next installment? Lower the price and 'in game value' of the GimmickLander, keep the levels like TT, and add non-puzzle based minigames that would truly function outside of the game. I'm happy. - Unreall |

Exactly. I feel like they are experimenting with each game, trying to see what people like and dislike. Since a lot of people complained, I'm almost sure Skylanders 5 will have PvP, a kind of Heroics/Missions and an increased level cap. They are making the series better and better with every title, mostly by listening to the fans. They browse this forum, they know what we want. I honestly hope for a game with no gimmick (at least not a character one), where we can have two or four Skylanders per Element (don't know about Light and Dark), and a great story, with lots of fan-based improvements. In the end, people are always going to complain, even if they create a game specifically for their "needs". It's the nature of people, and, also, the nature of gamers. Quote: CountMoneyBone

I think for Skylanders 5 there are a few thing that they should take from Trap Team.
- The name voting contest: Yea many people didn't like the names but I feel this was great for fans to get more into the series. It was litterly like having your own made Skylanders in. They should bring this back because it was a blast to name 3 Skylanders why not more? - Minis and lack of remodels: I feel that the mini work better because of them being more adorable to anyone and they are different from remodels in a few ways. Remodels keep decreasing as the games go on. For Skylanders 5 ONLY have Gill Grunt or completely remove this class of Skylanders. Besides minis are far more well received the remodels. - SG and STT's level length: Honesty the levels in these two games is perfect but the problem comes with SSA where they were too short and durning a run through this game it only took me from 7:00 to 2:00. If they do this I will get bored with the game because I will have beaten the game already. As for SSF :uugghh: If your levels are TOO long I will get bored playing them and the checkpoints don't make it any easier. I won't talk about it anymore because we all have complained about the length. To sum it up 8:00 - 15:00 should be the amount of a level in the next game. If VV uses these things then they can make a better game. |

To me, it feels like the dark scales of Blackout are also vibrating with an eerie green "light", which he then unleashes, when attacking. A compleately black skin wouldn't have suited him better, in my opinion. This way, he just feels like a living nightmare. You cannot really understand his color.
