Would you let your hypothetical 6 year old play a game with the above stuff in it?
Some people also don't read and then complain to the store when they see the content of said game.

If I had a time for everytime I saw a kid in gamestop ask their parent/guardian for an M or god forbid A game, I would be rich.

Oh goodness, did you really create this thread because of my comment in my own thread? Christ, then you went ahead and targeted me on my guestbook about it.
A six year old is not going to comprehend the content in a rated M game. They're probably going to giggle at anything to do with it. I remember playing GTA 3 and just laughing punching in the cheat codes and shooting people with the weapon unlocks. I turned out just fine. It was like when a kid was home alone and snuck in Terminator into the VHS player. Made you giggle like a little girl just watching it! As for a kid who is past the comprehension age but isn't quite a teenager yet? I say who cares. Who wasn't playing rated M games in their pre-teens/teenage years anyways? They likely know about sex and violence from what they learn on the news and from what they watch on Television. There's some questionable content in Grand Theft Auto such as the hot coffee incident, but it's not a bother to me. The kid playing it is either too young to understand and remember, or the kid already knows about it. It won't bug me and it won't bug the kid. For games that are also rated M but deal with less brutality and violence, like the Persona/Shin Megami Tensei series, there is absolutely nothing wrong with them. Devil summoning? Alright, cool! Sounds crazy and exciting. I'd be stoked as a kid playing Persona, to be honest. What about Devil May Cry? Dark, creepy, atmospheric, satanic...who cares? It's an amazing package and crazy fun. I don't want my kid to grow up on just Mario and Pokemon. Whenever I have kids, I want them to experience the crazy and awesome games I played when I was growing up (or the popular ones during their generation) rather than playing a G-rated series constantly. I want them to try something different with a laid back parents. I turned out completely fine growing up and consider myself pretty normal with a study goal to look forward to. Let the kid play what he or she wants. They aren't going to retain it at an early age, and the kids who are pre-teens/teenagers likely know enough to not scare or creep them out. Some are probably going to call me an idiot for my viewpoint and such, but video games don't lead to violence or brutality. The kid will turn out fine and I have absolutely no problem with them playing rated Mature titles. When I have kids one day and introduce them to Persona, he or she will be the coolest kid on the block. P: |

At 6 years old? Hell no. At 13+ and they've proven a level of maturity and capability to handle what's in these games and not replicate the actions IRL? Sure.
I would also probably replicate the same standards my parent(s) had: At a certain age games with blood, gore, violence, and language are fine. But games with explicit sexual content (e.g. nudity, actual sex, etc) are not to be touched until an older age (16+). |

tbh i didnt even play an m-rated game until i was eight-teen. and ive only played that one game for an hour or so because ive got other games id rather play.
generally speaking these games dont tend to interest me :/ as for kids... eehhhh, i strongly disagree with parents just buying whatever the hell their kids want without even looking at it, then screaming to the store about how 'violent' the game in question is. not every kid is going to handle the contents of the game well, and id prefer to be cautious and say 'this game isnt age appropriate; perhaps try something else'. but if the kid has shown themselves to be very responsible and the parents are aware of whats in the game? sure, go ahead.... not really sure i agree entirely, but okay. not every kid is the same and i wouldnt want to treat them as a hivemind. i do not however believe video games lead to violence, but i do feel it can be a factor. i say this because a cousin of mine had some...questionable teaching and played m-rated games/watched r-rated movies almost exclusively and well that kid kinda beat up his cousins, including me. and my brother would copy everything he saw to the letter and basically be a little terror, thus prompting my parents to monitor what he played and watched. so, depends on the child. but as a general rule id prefer to just look at the ratings and think very carefully on if the child in question is really 'ready' for it. id really prefer the age for this all to be considered to be 13+ tho |

Personally, I don't are for most rated M games. Never really have and as such I haven't really played any.
I've only played one (The Evil Within) that was for a couple of minutes at a friend's house. He gave me the controller while he went to look up a walkthrough. I tried to fight this boss and got killed trying to run like a little girl.

I don't know if ratings are different in the US, but here M is a pretty low rating? Like most blockbuster movies kinda low. I'm assuming that's not what you're talking about, unless you're actually like 5.
If we're talkin like R 18 "it's technically illegal to play this game unless you're 18 cause of all the gratuitous porn" then yeah maybe not for like anyone under 13. I guess it depends on the kid tho. My cousin was playing GTA when he was like 9.

Pff, if I ever have kids. I'd only let them play games of the appropriate age for them. Even though I didn't have issue playing games of certain ratings at a young age, it's the fact that I never really understood the game. And some of the content is kind of not meant to be introduced to kids, like rape, murder, terrorists, and online gaming.
But if me and my boyfriend do get married, have kids, and get into this argument. We might have to check out what type of game we're talking about, how often it has that stuff, and cut off online playing.

Just recently I purchased Black Ops at my local GameStop, because I lost my other one, and the dude actually asked to see my ID because it was rated M... *sigh* I hate how I look so young, I'm 20 years old man. Once I showed him my ID he laughed and said "Sorry about that, you look like you're 15!" Then he proceeded to hit on me in the creepiest way possible.
MORAL OF THE STORY... My game store actually IDs people when they buy M rated games... the ****... I remember playing Grand Theft Auto when I was 7.

I'd probably wait until I thought my kids were mentally mature enough to play these games. I started playing M-Rated games around the age of 12-13. When it comes to extreme content like the stuff in GTA? They're waiting until they're 18 and/or out of the house. But I wouldn't push it any younger then 12(that's pushing it for me already). My younger brother started playing these games the same time I was, when he was 8. For almost 2 years I had to deal with "that annoying 9 year old that plays Call of Duty" right next to my room. It all depends on when my kids are mature enough to play these games and know what's going on.

I honestly wouldn't care what they played, I remember playing M rated games as a kid and just having fun riding in Mech suits and running into things with my car. Did I ever think to myself "This is fun, I'm going to do this in real life!"? No, I didn't. I don't know why anyone would say that, the only time I've ever heard that statement is when News Stations try to blame incidents on media.

I don't get it. I'm in love with Mario, LEGO, and Smash games. Everyone else at my school, Skylanders and DI (good), and then GTA, CoD, Halo, Deadpool the Game, and Assasins Creed. And the people who play DI and Skylanders is a small amount. Keep in mind we're only 10-11.
