Has anything seen anything? I'm not one to collect them, but they don't seem to be a thing anymore. SF didn't have much but there were some. You guys think we'll get any?

Oh they will show up...would be shocking if they stopped them entirely. It seems (in my opinion as a chase hunter) that they became harder to get as the games progressed, the blurple ones and flocked seemed to be less common then any variant in Spyro or Giants. Then again perhaps there were just less people hunting back then!

I didn't recall chase variants appearing until later in the releases for the past couple of games. I didn't even remember seeing anything about purple chase variants for Giants until we were close to the Swap Force release (maybe a few months out) and the Swap Force chase variants were hinted at early on, but not confirmed until, at least, this past Spring, I'm thinking. Though I could be wrong.

I dont really care either way, the chase variants are cool, I dont bother collecting them unless I find them in stores, I only have a few common ones.
To me they just seem like bragging rights if you manage to hunt them down, I dont see any reason to pay $200+ on ebay for one just to say I have it. I focus my collection on skylanders that appear different in game |

They haven't given me a reason to be positive about Skylanders. They've given me less of what I want. And done a sloppy job of it. Maybe the grinch will be replaced with the warmth of the Whos, but I tend to doubt it. UB: Yes, I want to save the poor skyfans from the evil sharpfins of the world. Begone, variants (And I have 98% of them, so it's not like I don't like them).

To each his own when chasing after rarer items in any collecting or hobby. Everybody has their own budget and it's only foolish to get into the chase if you can't afford something or don't have the expendable income...somewhat akin to gambling. There will always be a small minority of people who will have an insane amount to spend on any collectors item...thus the high EBay prices when such an item first hits the resale market. Remember those $1000+ auctions for metallic green Shroomboom? I bet those people are smacking themselves in the face now.

I never had the chance to get chase variants because my country never got any as far as I know, so I can't really feel good or bad that they got removed because I could never have the thrill of finding the shiny thing on a store that was super rare.
Well, there's always customs. You could make a ton of color variants by getting a some tubes of acryllic paint and a detail brush. Though reselling for profit is another matter entirely, not everyone is good with those and not everyone cares about Detailed LOS Custom Cynder over Cynder With Black Metallic Paint for some reason.

I think there will still be chase variants for employees and events like Toy Fair, but the ones we usually only find randomly in store (Purple Metallic ones, Clear Green ones, etc.) could be replaced with the Eon's Elite? This way they are still limited but more accessible to collectors and the extra money it cost to get them goes to Activision instead of a scalper getting hundreds of dollars for a figure worth $10-$15.

Exactly, GR.
Though I don't mind paying a decent price for a variant, I do agree with you. Some of the winners of the High Five contest are posting already, not even having the figure, to sell them around $40-$80. WTF?! A rip off for a general figure, yet a fair price for a variant. I won the last contest Frito-Lay did (Fire Bone Hot Dog variants). I got the purple one, then checked EBay....the highest price: $650 USD. now that's highway robbery.

Actually, that is an aspect which vexes me - they seem to be predominantly non-store related? Special event ones, employee only ones, country specific ones, and less and less variants which are generically found.
Then again, I perceive it is to combat store employees just cherry picking them, anyway...

Guys, don't bicker, if someone is being annoying you just don't reply. Or get a program to make them invisible but that's another story.
It depends on the game and the variant type, skylander_chaos. Some showed up months after release of a game, some like Golden S2 Flameslinger were preorders, and some are from conventions only.

Well Golden S2 Flameslinger wasn't really preorder only. It just came in stock finally one day after the page listing being up for nearly 3 months. Most Chase Variants began as soon as Wave 1 hit, but this looks like a case of Wave 3.

I recall SSF variants kicking in with wave 2, last time? Was there anything before Scorp, Rip Tide, et al?

They where not in "toysrus's early release of wave 2" but where in the main release of wave 2, when wave 2 hit other stores.

I've been to my loop of stores (2 walmarts, 2 targets, 2 Hastings, 3 GS's and a TRU) and always check out of town stores to the point that all my family members get annoyed with me, probably 1000 plus store visits and I've only ever found two, which seems really lucky compared to what I have read on here. I've also looked through 100s of newly opened boxes and never found one in any of them (I'm not a retail employee, I just show up early on days I know things are going on shelves). One was fuzzy springtime which I think was advertised as one per store, so I shouldn't really count that one (got lucky though because I think it was one of the few times I didn't know about a release date and it had been out on a peg for a couple of days). The other was Stone Zook, which I found on a newly unwrapped Walmart middle aisle display. Still have them both.
