Most of variants, almost all from the 3 previous games, look like they are only painted once.. EXCEPT my silver dino-rang, he looks like he has green on boomerang where paint is slightly rubbed off! I'm talking about the RARE non in-game variants, with the exception of the 4 clear spyros adv I have! Anyone know the paint process of these??

I could be mistaken, but I believe the authentic silver and gold variants from Series 1 Skylanders were solid silver or gold plastic all the way through -- not painted.

No, they are all painted, as you can see if base is snapped off!

Only TFB would know. Silver and Gold variants are easy to fake sadly, so if you got it loose from ebay its most likely fake. I bought a loose Silver Boomer on ebay and it had a little paint missing from the dynamite and it was a light greencolor and was told it was fake, but some paint chipped off the foot when he fell onto the floor and it was light gray.

All chase variants are flat color underneath the paint.

I own several loose variants.

Gold Chop Chop and Gold S1 Flameslinger are silver/grey underneath the paint.

Green Gill Grunt is pure black underneath the paint (I bought a broken one that came with a lot of other gigures)

Color Shift Hot Dog is also silver/grey underneath.

That confirms my belief! They are painted

ONCE, either the norm colors or variant color!

The only paint used on color variants like the Silver variants is the Silver coloring itself.. You wouldn't be able to scratch off the paint on his scales to see the red, or the brown on his armor. It cuts down on the cost of production.

The plastic itself is a silvery-gray on the Silver/Gold figures.

Wait what? I never said they weren't all painted... They are very obviously painted but only once. I reread and the way your first post is worded slightly contradicts your other post but I think I finally figured out what you were trying to say. Anyways were you figures purchased loose off of eBay? Becuase if they were this one is almost defiantly a fake...

You,sir, you don't know the definition of rude, specially how rude a post in here can get. Ninja is just being blunt(straight to the point, far from being rude or giving destructive criticism), but he is being quite nice up until now, and is just suggesting that maybe you have a fake variant and got fooled into thinking it's a real one.

Dear lord, chill. Sorry that I'm a kid even if I'm over 18 years old, or how a BIG part of this forum is also composed of adults. But guess that disagreeing means rude and harassment, even if we're trying our hardest to be nice and try to explain that it could be a real variant, a fake one sold on Ebay from some shady seller, and that either way it either has a normal coat of paint or a flat one under it.

Not true for the older variants.

Sorry all if I got defensive, but damn, all I asked is if they were painted once or twice, and Matt confirmed just once.. This is what I suspected, and I thanked and agreed with him right before the little ninja jumped all over me! That just set me off and then after he admitting being wrong, no apology!!

Yes, that only applies to every variant AFTER spyros adv, and it shows nothing about being special when put on portal!

...You were asking about the paintjob,not if it's identified by the portal Giants and on or not. You're just accusing Ninja of things he didn't do - again, he was being blunt and never rude or attacking, people aren't going to be 100% calm and collected when warning others, actually it's more common in the internet than in real life since you can just type, but even then it's no guarantee.
And people are going to answer stuff 3 or 4 times as long as the topic is around. You never know when the first answer is mistaken.

Legendaries and co. are identified by the portal as variants, however. The difference is with the chase variants, like the special paintjob ones, because probably the developers weren't planning for people to actually want them identified in the game and not just their collection in the first game.
