He popped up for me today, 10/21/14, but my game crashed after collecting and didn't save.

You must have a really poorly defended kingdom, these villains just love to invade!

I've only had 5 villains so far - 2 Chill Bills, 2 Grinnades and a Buzzer Beak. My Trap Masters are starting to trap my own Skylanders out of boredom.

You still have to click it and get a skylander--but it sure was nice to not lose a giant for 8 hours when he "invaded" this morning

Why doesn't he open existing gold chests?

It has taken me till today to get any thing other than the initial Grinnade.

What do you mean? He makes all available chests open immediately.

I wish I could get this villain to invade. As I have LobStar, I'm up to about 13 water traps....

I have seen most of the others. Guess I'll have to get some more trap masters!

I suspect that, while he opens all new chests immediately, if you have a chest already in progress - say 2 hours into opening a gold chest - he will not cause it to instantly complete.

I haven't seen it in action, but that's how I interpret the above post.

That would make sense. I wouldn't expect him to. That's why I've let chests just sit until I trap him. I trapped him, this morning, and had several chests lying around, including 2 giant chests. I usually get annoyed by the giant chests, but waiting until I get Chill Bill makes me like them.

Don't chests decay after a while? I don't believe I've ever looked into it.

Nope, chests stay around forever. The only exception was one dark Super Tuesday when all chests were gold and they disappeared at midnight. (or maybe they turned into pumpkins?!)
