I hope they don't affect the already existing walkthrough videos and have them blocked/non-monetized with copyright. First chapter 1, now they're doing chapter 2 and now they just uploaded Chapter 3.

As soon as they did Chapter 2, Know-It-All Island videos was marked with copyright claims. And now they've done Chompy Mountain, we can expect the same. I hope they had fixed this copyright thing.

so you had no cut scenes or game music in your video and you got them taken down anyway??...

Some of the villain themes are copyrighted too, mostly only making your video available but not monetized.

I'm new to posting videos. Can any of you direct me some complete information about what I need to do to keep going. I haven't monetized yet, but I plan to. Is joining a network the only safe way to go? If so, which ones are best, and what are the upsides and downsides? And will they really shut me down if I don't? Thanks guys, I would appreciate any help you're willing to give or point me to!

It will happen whether you're a youtube partner or not. You can't escape copyright claims.

What happens with a copyright claim? Do they make me take my videos down? What if I could join Machinima?

Copyright claims can either block your videos or stop monetization on them. Even when you join Machinima, you'd still get copyright claims.

You know the more this is happening, the more I'm honestly missing VV.

No, really by comparison I'm missing entirely how they handled this series, and take back every bad thing I said about them.

It happened once with VV as well, Kung Fu, with Mesmeralda's Song. It was uploaded on the SkylandersGame channel, and the copyright blocked other youtube videos that had the song for a while until the devs dropped it.

I agree it's getting ridicules. Especially because the Skylanders boy and girl are posting videos of the game and nothing has happened...

That really stinks. I thought you'd be protected by joining a network, but I guess we get screwed either way. Can anyone explain why SkylanderBoy and Girl don't get copyright claims against them?

Probably because they do the face cam, and you don't hear any of the in game music.

The Skylanders Boy & Girl have press status with Activision, just like coin-op and others, thus enabling them to use copyrighted material

But some of them, including me, were struck by Copyright Claims too, and had to wait until Activision or another third party lifted the claims off their vids.

But do you have actual press status with them Aura? As in did they send you an official letter recognizing you as an authorized entity to use their stuff? Authorized press members get many benefits beyond able to use copyright material like merchandise, passes to e3, ect. If you didn't get a letter then that's why you can't use their copyrighted material. As for the SB&G deserving it or not, that's mainly opinion based (personally not a fan of theirs). The facts of the matter is that their dad has done the leg work to get that status, so be jealous all you want.

Yes, I went to E3 this year with coinoptv and others, and received stuff from Activision. But I still got the copyright claims.
