Just wondering what everyone's experience on the tablet has been. So far it's been pretty great on my 5th Gen iPad Air aside from serious battery issues for the portal - I got rechargeable batteries, but it drains through them in about 2-3 hours, so I get the feeling it'll kill my batteries before long with all the recharging I have to do. It also drains through the iPad battery so I'd recommend leaving that on a charger if possible.

Also, since the portal goes back and forth before the batteries die I accidentally upgraded Broccoli guy on the Instant Trap instead of the physical trap - so I believe I have to go back and re-upgrade the physical version of him. It states inside the game that he's upgraded, despite him being unchanged when I put in the trap. Annoying, since it's one of the levels that starts with an airship battle before you get into the level proper (I feel they have way too many of them).

Other than that - controller is great. I may want to get a second one so I can have a co-op player join in - has anyone tried two player on the tablet yet? Obviously the small screen is a bit of an issue, but does it work?

I played the demo part, not bought into it yet.
I enjoy the big screen experience with my kids too much to want to play it on tablet a lot.

If it worked on the iPad mini then we would have some sales but who can afford retina/air for their kids???

You can play 2-player co-op using a "Made for iOS" controller such as the SteelSeries Stratus. There's a list here:
http://afterpad.com/mfigamecontrollers
Unfortunately they are a bit expensive.

On Android you can use a 3rd party Bluetooth controller such as the Nyko Playpad.

You can also use a 2nd Skylanders Gamepad if you can get your hands on one. The only trick here is that you need to put a 2nd Skylander on the portal before the game will start looking for a 2nd Skylanders Gamepad.

my ipad air experience is such.
the portal seems to disconnect or crash (even with fresh batteries) and i have to toggle the bluetooth off/on, or if that doesnt work, i have to get it to instant mode to finish a level. It's stalled at preparing download screens (so i dont ever put a new character on during a level or it'll lock up at "preparing download" and then theres nothing to do but restart the app.
its the only game ive ever had that has made my ipad air warm to the touch. and does eat up the ipad airs battery pretty good but not too terrible (the air has an awesome battery). the portal batteries seem to last me quite a bit. ive only replaced them like 3 times since i started playing. (and im in like 10-15 hours or something)
ive gotten through 11 chapters, have loaded probably 40 different skylanders, its only done the crashy/bluetooth thing a couple dozen times. and locked up on preparing download for levels just a like 6 times or so.

now im not gonna say i dont like it, but it is buggy. and they havent made any patches or anything. the console versions (well a few of them anyway) have already had updates/patches. but nothing for android or ios.

ninjero, what ios do you have on your air?

Well I was going to get it for ios (as well as my PS4/Wii U and 3DS copy) but no support for iPad mini... Oh well looks like its still battle Grounds for my mini. Any news on if Battle grounds or lost islands are getting a Trap Team update?

In regards to iOS patches, the Apple approval process can be painful so updates tend to be spaced wider and cover more.
I do expect any serious bugs to get fixed, but give it time for them to be sure they are all discovered.

That said, it ran fine on my Retina mini with no problems. It was just the free demo part though, no portal or anything.

morning, new user here but have been lurking since Giants.

I got the iPad version so my son (who is 6) could play mainly when were are traveling. We took it on a trip this past weekend, and the one thing I can say is if you play it over cellular when its downloading the new levels, it will eat up data at an alarming rate. I think he used around 7gb to get from level 1 to level 8 or 9. the portal batteries as have already been said, get used up very fast as well. Our first set of batteries barely lasted a day but it was being played quite a bit.

I played it a little bit, and on my iPad 4 retina, the game looks as good as my PS3 version. but since its not me playing it primarily, my son could for the most part care less about the graphics quality as long as he can play it.

now heres the thing I cant figure out. I took the characters and put them on the portal during the game, probably about 10 of them, and the game still only shows the 2 digital characters as loaded. Yet I have all of the traps I put into the portal showing as saved. Am I missing something, in lost islands and battlegrounds, you just put the figure on the portal and it saves it into the game. just trying to avoid having to tote a bag of figures that might get lost or broken.

thanks

that is why taking the time to finish the game properly before release is of most important. i wish apple was more strict and demanded removal of games, if they didn't work as intended.

Actually, my pre-loaded Riot Shield Shredder trap works on my iPad Air, which is listed as a fix in the 1.0.1 console patch so Pyrofer might have a point there.

I have ios 8.0.2 on my Air. I haven't had many crashes, it's usually due to battery issues, although early on I did have a problem downloading skylanders, so I made sure to download all of them as soon as it was working to make sure I didn't have to do it again. My suggestion is to do the 6GB full download if possible, as that should deal with some issues, and make sure to download all the skylanders you want to use before using them, as if you try and download while you're doing other things in the game, it might have a chance of hanging up.
