I... I just...
Meghan Trainor should go on that celebrity moon trip.
I hate this song... what is it with these songs about how big your behind is? What? Anaconda, Shake It Off, and this.
I am a girl. All my life I've been told that you should NEVER care about this kind of stuff. And now... this happens.
THIS HAPPENS.
I mean, I'm okay with that one Photoshop part, but that's the only good part.
The worst part? My little 9-year-old sister likes this song. 9. Years. Old. She thinks it's about body acceptance, when it's not.
You guys' opinions. Please and thank you.

Shake it Off isn't about having a big butt? I haven't watched the vid, but from hearing the song I thought it was about just not letting things in life or what people say get to you and just "shaking it off".

All About That Bass is about self-acceptance. It's about loving your body shape and loving yourself. It barely references anything a kin to what you think it does and 100% not on caliber with Anaconda or anything Nicki Minaj. It's not about girls with big butts shaking it in front of the youth of this generation and encouraging them to do the same. Just because you don't like the song doesn't mean it's the scourge of the modern world. I'm proud of your little sister for enjoying a song that teaches her that she's beautiful no matter what.

This. And I don't like the song.

Say what you want about the song being bad, but you completely missed the point of what this song is saying. It has a good message, let alone isn't anywhere near the over-sexualized songs/videos that are like anaconda. Saying All About that Bass promotes sexualizing yourself is like saying Royals promotes aspirationalism. It's the exact opposite of what the songs are saying.

DMC and Pancake have the right idea. I mean, holy **** guys...

The song isn't about having a big butt. It's about accepting yourself for who you are and speaking out against the constant fat shaming that media and advertising likes to do (at least in the US). It is about body acceptance. Yeah **** on Anaconda for being all about big butts and insulting skinny people. But All About That Bass was never about either of those things.

I mean, isn't this the same site that once talked smack about how the media portrays "fat" people in a negative light and expects every woman to be a rail-thin supermodel in order to be in any way valued in society? Weren't we all against that? And now here comes a song speaking against that stuff and telling you to love yourself for who you are and we're all just going to trash it because it's popular and makes references to a big butt?

The song isn't all that great. But you guys seem to be missing the point and making it out to be a lot worse than it really is. There is no way in hell that this is on the same level as Anaconda or Wiggle. Not even remotely close.

They are.

Also I listened to 21st Century Breakdown the other day for the first time in years. It's alright, but not that much better than what we have now.

EDIT: And Shake It Off is about haters and is pretty bad on its own right for being a sell out move.

I really hate that song and I hate the girl who sings it. Her face looks like a sign saying "PUNCH ME".

Taylor Swift copied Florence+The Machine with "Shake It Off"..Flo came out with a hit single "Shake It Out" which is about shaking off the devil/negative people in her life, and ****ing Taylor just has no creativity.

Why all about that bass is NOT a body positive song:

"in case you guys missed it ‘all about that bass, no treble,’ in a song that is mainly treble. Is a thinly veiled metaphor for hating thin women.
bass is a bigger sound, treble is a smaller one."

""Yeah, it’s pretty clear, I ain’t no size two
But I can shake it, shake it
 Like I’m supposed to do
‘Cause I got that boom boom that all the boys chase
And all the right junk in all the right places”

The first issue is that a woman is “supposed to” shake it, it being their ass, breasts, & bodies in general. Her body being the one that all the boys chase. This tells us two things. First off, according to Trainor, our bodies are worth loving — but only if we have all the right junk in all the right places & men find us appealing. Secondly, we should also shake it for those men. Our bodies are not about us, they are about them. These lyrics are basically implying that our bodies are not for us, but for the pleasure of men. The worth of our body is calculated by the number of how many men covet it. Damn. I never knew.

Also, what are the “right” & “wrong” places to have junk? Expecting most women to just be able to gain weight only in their hips, ass, & breasts while keeping flat tummies is just a bit ridiculous & sets women up to try to meet a standard that maybe their body cannot achieve or maintain for whatever reason.

To be fair, the next several lines do get us back on track for both feminism & body positivity:

"I see the magazine workin’ that Photoshop
We know that **** ain’t real
 C’mon now, make it stop
If you got beauty building, just raise ‘em up
‘ Cause every inch of you is perfect
From the bottom to the top”

What this does is outline the ridiculous beauty standards women feel they need to live up to while also calling for change & reassuring the listeners that they are awesome just the way they are. If only the whole song was like this, then it could be a fantastic anthem for feminism & true body positivity. Unfortunately, Trainor goes on to only dig herself deeper into the problematic pit that she was just beginning to climb out of in that second verse:

"Yeah, my mama she told me don’t worry about your size
" She says, ‘Boys like a little more booty to hold tonight.’
You know I won’t be no stick figure silicone Barbie doll
So if that’s what you’re into then go ahead and move along”

The first line starts the verse out with some feel-good female empowerment, but then it again makes our asses & our bodies more about what men want than about what we want. This song isn’t saying “Love yourself because your self-worth isn’t defined by men.” It’s saying the exact opposite & then bashes “stick figures” & dismisses anyone who finds them attractive. There is no true body positivity movement if we as women are pitting ourselves against each other within that movement by 1. insulting each other & by 2. arguing about what men like more when it comes to the female form as if what they like more should be a primary concern of ours. Not all men like girls sizes 0-6, not all men prefer girls to be a size 8-14, & not all men are predominantly attracted to women who are a size 16 & above. If you look past societal standards, personal tastes vary & there’s lots of someone’s out there who are going to be into how you look — but it is that focus on what men “want” that is detrimental to us. There should be less focus on women as sexual objects & more focus on us being people — intelligent, capable, multi-faceted people whose self-worth cannot be defined merely by how “hot” some men might think we are or aren’t.

Moving along:

"I’m bringing booty back
Go ahead and tell them skinny *****es that
No, I’m just playing. I know you think you’re fat
But I’m here to tell ya
Every inch of you is perfect from the bottom to the top.”

When trainer says “skinny *****es”, you can’t help to think that she’s not really joking. Especially once you have listened to the lyrics in other parts of the song where she shames bodies that are different from hers. Then she tells us that all women think they’re fat, but what about the women that don’t think they are fat or don’t care either way? Why are we painting those girls as nonexistent? As if caring about your weight is a natural (key word: natural) part of womanhood. It ends nice though, again adding in a message to reassure & empower those of us who struggle with low self-esteem — but only those of us who are skinny & think we are fat &/or have a body similar to Trainor’s body.

Don’t get me wrong, this song isn’t all bad in content, but it isn’t a gleaming example of feminism or body positivity that includes rather than excludes. The problem with this song is that it contradicts itself, uplifts only to then bring down.

What about those women who are one of those “stick figures” & knows that they are thin — but still aren’t happy with how they look (maybe a woman who gets teased for having smaller breasts)? What happens when a woman is larger than Trainor, who, as she states, has the type of body boys prefer & that her love for her body comes from how much men love it? If men only prefer her type of body & if the worth of our body is determined by how many men desire that body, where does that leave the rest of us?

Any girl without an hourglass shape is basically being excluded from the self-love party when you actually decode what these lyrics are telling us. But how about we do something different? How about we start embracing all sizes (without putting down one or more types of bodies to lift up another) & even more importantly, how about we make it clear to young women & all women that it really doesn’t matter how many guys want to **** them (us), that it doesn’t matter if they (we) “shake it, shake it”, or if they (we) have junk or not in wherever places society has deemed it now acceptable to have it in, that they are worth so much more than how they look & how many men desire them for it? How about that?"

lol u
You want my opinion on that version huh? It's almost just as bad as the original for meaning but it pouts it across in a slightly less rude way. Apart from that it's the same. Bad. The purpose of women's 'booties' is for sitting, not for men to hold at night. And it still implies if you like thin people your opinion is horrible. Still a **** song.

For vocals: the originals is pretty ****, that one is all electronicy and fake.

The skinny line is a mediocre one and could've been removed from the song. And I can get how it's easy to see it as someone "hating the player and not the game". But people are still spending a bit too much time focusing on a single line that was meant to be a joke, throwing away the entire rest of the song and its positive message simply because it made a crack at skinny people (where she afterwards immediately admitted to joking).

Most people are going to listen to the song and see it as a body positive song, because that's pretty much the impress most people get when they first listen to it. I know that's the impression I got from it.
Plus, to be honest, the song is pretty catchy.
Even if the song isn't about body positivity, though, I can't really say it's anywhere near the 'stupidest song in history'.

Yeah, there are some lyrics that don't fit the overall message, but the overall message is still the same throughout the whole song. And lyrics can be interpreted differently too. Meh, I still see your points though. I don't particularly agree, even if I don't like the song very much, and I still think the song is at least better than songs like anaconda or wrecking ball.

If you don't go in to that much detail and just state that the song is not body positive supporters will claim the song does not body shame. A lot if people don't think it's body positive, there's endless comments on YouTube, tumblr and twitter complaining about the bad message.
The 'stupidest song in history' will always be Ass by Big Sean.

As state above and the overall message throughout the song is "it's ok to be fat because boys like it". That is the constant message throughout the song. That is not a good message.

How can you disagree that the song body shames? It clearly does.

This is a much worse song than Wiggle. Wiggle does not take a group of people to put down to make another group feel superior.

I hate the regular version of that song.

But Megan's version is WAY better.

Also the lyrics are slightly different, I think Ice Dragoness should make a text wall about the different lyrics

Megan Nicole is an awesome singer. Way better then OTHER Pop Singers. The original AATB was HORRIBLE, Megan did it way better

I never thought I'd hate the bass and treble clefs more than I did when I started piano and couldn't draw them if my life depended on it. Apparently, this song proved me wrong.

If we're going to sit here and analyze a song's lyrics to the farthest degree...

Wiggle takes an entire gender and objectifies them to where their ass size is the only thing worth a damn about them, and that it will also determine their success in life ("Damn girl you have a bright future behind you").

There is absolutely no way that Wiggle is better than All About That Bass. You may think the song body shames a group of people, but Wiggle can be seen as objectifying half the world population. And not even with a decent beat or lyrics to where we can overlook it and say "well at least it sounds decent".

it's not the stupidest song ... there's just too many songs about men liking big butts, as though it's revolutionary. i think todd in the shadows described my feelings best in his review for this song.

I haven't watched a Todd In The Shadows video in such a long time.

Todd's review probably is the best review/look at the song that I've seen so far. I particularly like how he took time out of the video to explain that fat shaming is a serious issue in American media, giving a song like this a reason to exist (even while criticizing it).

IMO, all modern music (which is mostly crap like Anaconda or rap music) sucks.

I honestly didn't think the song was that bad. I didn't like it, but I didn't think it was all that horrible. I always thought it was for the most part a body positive song aside from a few of the lines.

I cannot stand Shake It Off. I just find it extremely annoying and it's always stuck in my head. I haven't listened anywhere past like the first fifteen seconds of Wiggle, so I don't have much opinion besides I prefer Jason Derulo's other songs. I haven't bothered listening to Anaconda and I don't plan on ever doing so.

There's some modern music I like, Maroon 5 for example, but it seems all of the songs that are popular and I hear all over that place are the ones I don't like.

If you think all modern music is bad, you haven't been listening to the right radio stations. There's plenty of good songs out there. Don't judge the entire radio for just a couple of songs.

It's a bit annoying, overplayed, and the lyrics are a bit too skinny-hate for me, but other than that it's decent.
