I noticed when I had a Skylander with a hat from the previous games, it would pop up as a "legacy hat". My question is do you need to have your Skylanders wear the hats so they can show up in trap team or does hatterson sell them after completing Hood Sickles' quest?

they need to be brought over, hatterson doesn't sell them, unfortunately.

That will take so many agonizing hours though, but I'm willing to take that risk anyways.

Just load up your entire collection at once with as many hats as you can, then once you've ported over all that you can, go back into Swap Force and work on the next batch.

Swap Force has all of the hats from the first two games in it, so you only need Swap Force to do it. I did it with Adventure and Giants, not realizing I could do it with just Swap Force, and it really only took about a half hour per game, maybe less. I have not imported the Swap Force hats yet, as I do not have them all. Also, I could not get the gold top hat from Giants to register in Trap Team, so I had to use the gold top hat from Swap Force, which worked fine.

I luckily was able to put my hats on my Skylanders before porting them in. I would have been so upset if I had to load in my collection twice!

I also noticed that a lot of the legacy hats not only fit Skylanders better, but also some have updated designs. The Santa hat is now just a red and white beanie with antlers, the Shark hat is no longer a shark but the Rain fish/Leviathan, and the biter hat isn't a full model of a Chompy on your head, but a green beanie with Chompy eye stalks.


I also noticed that my Jolly, Kickoff and Springtime hats were all mixed up. The Jolly hat was a kickoff hat, the kickoff hat was a springtime hat, and the springtime hat was a jolly hat. Anyone else had this happen? This was for the downloaded Wii U version.

the hat problem is happen on all versions except the 3ds version, its well documented in the bug thread....

Curtain call for "legacy" hats. I don't expect the first 2 games to be supported on the next game. Given making sure the game is bug free and we have great content, I can endure this decision. It seems they didn't pay hats much mind this go around anyway.

The fact that you have to load them in and you can't purchase tells me volumes for #5.
