windows 10 [CLOSED]

so i decided to try out the windows 10 technical preview and honestly i have to say i like it so far. it's a step-up from windows 8 definitely.
the start button is BACK (you can change it so the windows 8 start menu is back too but idk who would use it)
[User Posted Image]
(it originally comes with a bunch of hideous "apps" at the right but you can unpin them)

other than the start button, i think this is more like a USEFULNESS update

  • keyboard shortcuts can be used in cmd
  • you can open cmd and powershell from file explorer
  • you can add multiple desktops now
  • you can switch between pre-windows 8 style start menu and windows 8
  • there are some changes to file explorer im too lazy to put down
  • there are boxes next to icons that you can select so you can select multiple items without having to hold down ctrl (can be enabled and disabled)
  • "apps" are not completely fullscreen anymore and can be resized

honestly i'm looking forward to the full windows 10 release. i'm not going to get it, but i really want to see what else they change in this.
has anyone else tried the technical preview?

I haven't tried it, but from the way you described, it looks really cool. Although I have Windows 8 and I like it, having the Start menu back would be especially neat

but i love it all smooth

I'm dying to try it, but I don't have a computer for it other than my own </3

Even so,
I fell in love with the features they announced. And since they want to use the feedback, along with this still being a work in progress, I feel like this'll really be one step ahead Windows 8.

So excuse me while I go pray they make it free like Apple did with OS Mavericks. I just really, really want this.

I tried this when they put it up. Little to no kernel updates. Only feature that is nice is virtual desktops.

It really should have been a free download and called Windows 8.2, because that's what it is.

Edit: I forgot it's worth mentioning, enjoy your keylogger.

Microsoft is still collecting the data.
---
On another note, I really do hope this becomes a free update for users who have Windows 8 installed. It was never officially confirmed, only rumored.

@Ostrichking: 7 is really starting to show age. Dual boot Ubuntu 14.04.4. I'm sure you'd like it.

It's collecting the data so they can know how people use it to improve the software. It's like a beta.

Granted it may be a bit too much information but I'd rather wait until after the full build is released and then find out if they're collecting the same amount of data.

That's how I feel. I think its a little too invasive on the privacy of users. Why not stick to a regular QA form?

Then again, I also don't use Chrome. Muh BOTNET

I don't like the idea of someone going through my browsing history or how I use my legally owned machine either. But in the case of what is essentially OS beta, it makes sense. You shouldn't be using it as your daily OS anyway.

What about Chrome?

Mm looks like a fine mix of Windows 8 and 7. Honestly 8 sucks, and a main part of the reason why is because of the start button issue, along with the apps issues as well. Thank god they fixed that.

It's like they tried to make a PC feel like a tablet... and that's just... no. You buy tablets for apps, not computers.

Here's how I feel:

Windows XP to Vista is an excellent jump. In terms of resource management and tasks requiring more memory and fully fledged new drivers? No. It's horrible. The jump is nice though.

XP ---> Vista
---
Nice jump, people weren't ready for it though.

Vista ---> 7
---
Excellent. Although, it's only a service pack sold to the mass consumer because Vista was labelized so horribly. Extremely good OS, starting to show roughness now.

7 ---> 8

**** you, Microsoft. Forcing your metro bull**** on consumers...also, removing the start menu (third party apps === based), waste of screen real estate...**** you. Perfermance is nice, but not worth it.

8.1 is only a SP. Really nothing special here.

8.1 ---> 10.

**** you, once again. Could have been Windows 8.2. Literally no kernel updates. Still forcing metro bull**** on users.
"b-b-but muh fullscreen windowed apps!!!"
no. **** you.

10 ---> 11

Better be kernel update 7.0 to keep my interest, I moved on. **** you, Windows team at Microsoft.

wow, lone windows 8 fan here
i agree the apps suck (that's why i don't use them), and it did take me a while to get used to not having a start menu, but i eventually figured out how to get to everything that i used on my old vista and adapted. the performance is pretty fantastic, especially compared to my old vista (that's before the hard drive started dying and worsened the performance further) so i find the change pretty worth it. then again, i don't use my computer for a wide variety of things, so take that with a grain of salt.
