I'm not for gay rights per-se, but I do support the idea of equal rights so obviously I think that gays should have the same rights as anyone else. It's just not because they're gay, it's because they are human beings.
BUT, let me point some things out in here.
While the right to marriage is a basic human right, if you want a Christian marriage you're talking about a religious, Christian ceremony. It's not a universal, "all-around" marriage. It's a biased, regulated, ritual ceremony based on ancient superstitions.
So, I think the problem homosexual people face today is not really that they couldn't marry, it's more the fact that Christian marriage is seen as THE way to marry, and Christian law just happens to not allow homosexual marriage.
So they want a christian marriage, which in essence, they cannot have. They could have a marriage of some other kind, which the government of whatever nation you're part of legally recognizes, but they're not all fine with that.
I can't really blame them, because there are homosexual people who have born and lived a christian, but the sad truth is that they're not going to change the mind of the largest cohesive movement on Earth. Even the second largest (Islam) is against them, radically so.
Also, many people (non-homosexuals included) translate the fact that the media focuses largely on heterosexual audience, as oppression, disrespect, prejudice, or even hate towards homosexual people. This is just stupid.
The media is not an accurate representation of a "level of equality of the system", It's not a fair-share kinda deal, it's a tool with owners who have a purpose for it, to make profit. People with heterosexual tendencies and normal views on gender identities make up the grand majority of this worlds population, as long as that's the case (and may it always be so, or our species will be in deep ****) heterosexual people will always be the "normal" people. It's a coincidence of there being more of them, don't misinterpret it as some sort of deliberate oppression.
Oh, and obviously I don't think homosexual people should be allowed to flaunt themselves in public. It's despicable, and I think it's also very counterproductive if their goal is to be publicly accepted (which they largely are, in civilized places).
And lastly, about rights and equality.. (now we're going sliiightly off-topic)
They're just ideas. Great ideas, cute ideas (thus I support them), but that's all they are. Cute and fictional. Don't ever make the mistake of relying on them as some sort of pinnacles around which everything is built, because they're basically just made up rules. Reality doesn't shift itself to acommodate what we think is correct.
Granted, if everyone played by those rules life would be peachy, but that's not the case. They get violated every day all around the world and no-one really cares if it doesn't affect their lives. Call me cynical. I think I'm just being realistic in this case.
Rights are also temporary, they will be ignored even by governments the second it seems like a good idea to do. Google "Japanese americans 1942", if you don't believe me.
So all this talk about equality.. I wish it wasn't so, but clearly human beings are currently not equal. So let's not pretend that's the case, and let's just continue working towards that goal, because it is a great goal.
I think that's about all I had to say.
