DON'T JUDGE THERE'S NEVER ANYTHING GOOD ON UNTIL 9PM
There was a dog called Sandy who was a terrier (not a Staffy) and she had been abandoned by her owners for about a month and a half. When the RSPCA came, she was very aggressive and scared of the human touch, so she was snarling and snapping quite a bit. When the woman got her to the animal shelter, they gave her food, water and a bath, and she calmed down. She was still a little aggressive and snappy but she didn't bite anyone. After two weeks, the RSPCA put her down because she was "too aggressive to be adopted" and "taking up too much of our time."
I think they rushed the decision and it was very unfair to just kill the dog without maybe sending her to another animal shelter, ad=s she was much less violent as she was when they first picked her up.
Do you think that they should have put her down?

She was already showing signs of improvement just by giving her food and water. What the **** it takes way more than just two weeks to help an animal with issues like that. It takes time, patience, love, and care to help an animal, especially one with a traumatic past like that. What did they expect? Of course she was gonna be aggressive, she was abused. She isn't going to magically get better and trust humans over night. If it was really taking up "too much of their time" - which by the way is a bull**** excuse, it's their damn job what the **** did they expect - they should have just taken her to another shelter who could help her or find someone who "had the time." If they really cared at all they would have been patient with her, instead of expecting the other way around.

I think I've seen this episode. I thought they were in the wrong to put her down.

They should have given the dog more time to improve. I mean, it's their job after all.

Exactly my thoughts. They were so cruel and unjust. We don't kill people who need to go to the hospital and don't get better from something like cancer in 2 weeks! They barely gave the poor dog a chance

You're kidding me, right?
For Celestia's sake, c'mon, RSPCA. Do you know how long it takes for a dog, any animal for that manner, just to grow up and become a fully-fledged? That's like taking a dispersal wolf out of the wild, saying 'it's too scared to be a pack leader', then killing it. It takes TIME, goddangit, and they should RESPECT THAT ASPECT. Geez, what is the world coming to?

Never seen that episode (Since I don't really watch much TV..)
But it sounds like they were on the wrong here. They should've given her more time to improve herself. And seriously with the whole "Taking up to much of our time" crap? Isn't that their job or something??.... :/

Well think of it this way. It took them two weeks of rehabilitation and she was still too aggressive to be adopted. The RSPCA has got very limited resources compared to the number of animals that they need to save and rehabilitate. They can't afford to keep a single dog who doesn't seem to make any progress for extended periods of time. That's why their point is to save animals and find new homes for them quickly, they are not properly funded. Also, you don't see this in the show, but their centers are pretty much always at full capacity, 24/7. It wasn't a "feelgood" solution, and I don't think anyone of them really thought that it was the ethical thing to do, but even the law states that you can't house an animal that might be dangerous to other humans. So, I wish they wouldn't have had to put the dog down, but it was the best solution at that point. |

But it's also their job to save other animals. It was sad that they had to kill the dog, but the fact that they had an aggressive animal taking up space in their shelter for a long time cost them time and money that they needed. As I said in my post, the RSPCA is severely overworked and underfunded. Had they kept the dog alive, they wouldn't have had more resources to save new animals from maltreatment. |

If this was applied to Humans we would all be in trouble.
Some dogs are Human like. RSPCA that dogs could have been loved. By the way what is (there terms) of aggression? Some people live in dangerous neighbourhood and need a aggressive dogs to keep criminals at bay.
