I'd just like to see your thoughts on whether or not gay marriage should be allowed or tolerated, or if people need to be more accepting.

Allowed. You should be able to love whoever you want.

I don't support gay rights.
I don't really like interacting with gay people.
It grosses me out.

It's also worth mentioning I grew up in a household of parents who were born in the early fifties and their parents born in the twenties. It's just an idea I grew up with and despite all the debate I hear nothing changes my opinion. I'm kind of indifferent on hanging out with gay people, like it doesn't bother me that much. But the second they start rambling on about it I just malfunction.

I support it. My only concern is that too many people here seem to call those who do not support legalization of gay marriage "homophobes", when that is a misuse of the word.

I support it. What LGBT people decide to do doesn't affect you and isn't going to ruin your life, send you to hell, or destroy your perceptions of marriage. I'm all for free speech and the ability to think whatever you want so long as you don't actively attempt to harm others, but at the same time people need to be more accepting to something like this. And actively denying someone the right to get married or adopt kids or so forth can be considered harming others.

I'm not going to **** all over you or anyone else for not supporting it. But I am interested in having a discussion about it. Who knows? Maybe your mind could change? Or maybe we can simply talk about the subject and how our upbringing can make an impact on our thoughts.

If people use the excuse "it's their choice if they want to be gay or not. They are not born that way" I get very ****ing annoyed with them. Firstly, no, it is NOT a choice. Do you REALLY think I WANTED to be gay? Ha, no. I never wanted to be gay, I never asked for this. I never asked to be hated by millions the minute I came to the realization of my sexuality. I never wanted to feel the extreme fear that someone was going to hurt me or worse, kill me if I came out. I don't like to cringe inside when ever someone speaks badly of homosexuals, or feel down when people use gay as an insult. Yeah, so like, it's not a choice maaann.
Plus, I somewhat want to get married when I grow up :U have a life like all those cheesy children books. Not giving us the power to get married anywhere we want is oppression and taking rights away. Laws against gay marriage go against the constitution, as it claims that we have the right to the pursuit of happiness, well marriage could be considered happiness correct? Well then that's not giving us our right to be happy by marrying who we love. I have nothing against people who dislike homosexuals, it's there opinion. I don't agree with it, but I don't really care.
Although, I do hate pride parades with a passion. They are not doing any good, they are doing more bad. They are showing the world "This is who homosexuals are, rampaging, out of control, over sexual people" It pains me to be almost be a stereotypical homosexual. In my mind...it's a lot like religion. Cool, you're gay, who cares? I don't feel something like this should be blown out of the water. It's stupid, it shouldn't even matter or be an issue.

This. I have absolutely no problems with homosexuals, even though I am straight myself. It's just that when they are flamboyant about it is when it gets annoying. You don't have to over-express yourself that you are a homosexual, you should be treated like everyone else and thus act like everyone else about relationships. My boyfriend and I both understand this fully and respect those who are homosexual. Just don't get in our faces about it, and we're totally cool with it.

It can also go the other way around in the context of pride parades. If it's not acceptable for a straight person to go nearly nude in the streets or flaunt their sexuality in overt ways in public (with children around) it shouldn't be ok for LGBT people.

I believe that everyone deserves equal rights. It is absolutely no ones' business who you love, who you want to be with, or who you want to marry. I support gay rights and there is no one that can change my mind. It's downright wrong what the gay community has to go through just because they love someone of their own gender. All states should allow gay marriages.

Really though it doesn't affect anyone (except gays) if they are given equal rights. So even though I don't like it, that doesn't mean it should be illegal. And the people who use the whole religion argument seem to forget that some people aren't religious, or super religious.

It should absolutely be allowed! I mean, what's so bad about gay marriage or being gay? I'm gay and I don't see what's the big deal about it not being allowed. Love is love and that's all that really matters! <3

I actually don't support it, but I don't see a reason for not allowing gay marriage, people choose what they want for their lives and it isn't no one else's business, just because they are gay and all doesn't mean they are bad ppl or any less than straight ppl.
The only thing that really gets me annoyed is the fact that they are wide open with sexual stuff, its simply gross, the same applies for straight ppl, c'mon, its a personal thing :/

Gay marriage should be legal in my opinion. I just do not see any good reason at all not to allow it. And now I think that I should put my reasoning out for all to see. So here we go.

It is commonly accepted thing that in modern day civilized world every person is born equal and free. This is a principle that determines our approach to ethics, moral and various different theoretical and therefore practical issues about everything that can be judged by those qualities. Homosexual people born with the same birth rights as heterosexual people and those rights are and should be secured by common human conscious, legislation and sense. Therefore if heterosexuals can get married and get their between bond recognized by the authorities of every different realm of existence then homosexual people should be able to do that as well. It is simple, easy, fair and utter most right thing to do.

I would like to start this following paragraph of this little speech with phrase that I sometimes have learned to hate but here it goes. Who are we to judge? Why is it so important for people to oppose something that eventually does not do even a slightest bit of difference to the opposing up’s life? If gay people can get married etc. does it affect the opposing side’s respective lives at all? I can tell that it does not. Even in animalistic evolutionary way there is no sense in opposing because gay people do not set roadblocks on heterosexual people’s ways in point of view of reproducing. I just do not understand the big fuss. I am heterosexual myself and if homosexual people get married that does not affect my own individual life that much that I should consider that phenomenon as a legitimate threat to my own survival.

And eventually it all becomes down to judging a concept of love. Of course there can be true, profound and most meaningful love without marriage but marriage has solidified itself as an important thing to modern human beings so it can be considered as important experience to have. Eventually how is it even possible to oppose a fact that some people get their chemical reactions in their brain triggered by the people of same gender? It is a natural setting, unchangeable pre-set if one may want to say that. Homosexuality is not Homo sapiens sapiens exclusive phenomenon.

All of us over 7 billion are animals who randomly appeared to be and fight for our survival to the ends of time. And our main survival mechanism as a species has been the efficiency of living in groups. It is naturally programmed to us that we seek comfort from other human beings and seek affection, love and strong feel of security. To make that kind of strong bonding with another human being and eventually as a large group, one needs love, understanding and trust. Therefore it is actually bad thing to quarrel and oppose to things that make this kind of strong bonding harder to reach.

So yes, in my opinion gay people should be allowed to get married. They have born with their quality and should not be oppressed by something that is natural and beautiful. If I, as a heterosexual, am allowed to conduct my life in the way I like it so should the homosexual people too. So there you are.

Well, objectively, from a human rights standpoint, it should be allowed. Basic human rights boil down to life, liberty, and equality. Denying same-sex couples the right to be recognized as spouses under the law is a slight to their liberty and equality. Mind you, it's not on the scale of the human rights violations in, say, Sudan. But it still fits.

I'm fine with it being allowed and all that jazz, but, personally, it's not up there on my list of political issues. Maybe it's because I'm not a part of that community or something, but I'm not really going to be considering same sex marriage when I go to the polls next month. >.>
