I really want to get Dark Edition for PS3, and a lot of places are low on stock. Where should I get it and how long will it be until they run out? Do they restock Dark Edition?

I think it depends on how popular the set can be but ALL the games had starters left over infact the Dark Edition for Swap Force is still around at my local EB Games for $30 so if you can't get it now it'll drop in price by Wave 5 or if you can -really- wait next year it'll be super cheap like Swap Force but it could be a gamble.

Walmart had the PS3 Dark Edition available online for a short time today. I was really close to getting it, but I want to get the PS4 version. TRU and Gamestop seem to have consistent stock for them online. I want to get it from Walmart since I have a gift card I need to use.

I preordered for PS4 through GameStop.....they had only one PS4 copy available, mine! On Monday, they had one Xbox 360 dark...and Toys 'R' Us had 2 - wii dark....seems like they've been wiped out!

I doubt they'll be restocked. If you want it, I'd get it now. "Limited Time" was clearly communicated on this product.

They said the same about the Swap Force Dark Edition though.... Regardless, I'm hoping they remain in stock long enough for black friday. I'd be really annoyed if I bought it now out of fear of it becoming rare only to have it go on sale next month. |

Right, and Wii U sold out within the first week. Listen, they won't disappear overnight, but stores are not going to be plentifully stocked. I've seen first hand accounts about how FEW stores are getting and seeing complaints here on lack of availability. I'll be shocked if there's any stock remaining by start of Nov. But go ahead and wait and take the risk.

My guess is they learned from last year and it will not be a shelf wormer like last year.

Btw, the Wii Starter Pack was available for a long time. I guess they've "adjusted" their inventory counts for this product this year. I may be wrong, but the data points in a different direction.

How about the Xbox 360 edition? It looks like the next gen Trap Team Dark Editions are low in stock on Amazon but the Xbox 360 version seems to be fine. |

No idea. I'd argue they have more stock for "last gen" systems since no one is moving to "next gen" fast enough.

If I were in charge, the Dark Edition would be limited so that the hard-core collectors would be more encouraged to buy the game on release instead of waiting for a cheap sale - while the regular edition would be stocked to the point where it would go on sale to get the casuals hooked. :D

I bought the PS4 Dark Edition from TRU. It's wiped out around here, nobody has it. TRU has a 60 day return period though, so what most people don't realize is you can buy it now and play it... if it goes on super sale for black friday and is still in stock you can just pick up a new copy cheap and return it to TRU with the old receipt. I did that for Swap Force LOL!

This is the problem with EB Games here in Australia. Last time people brought Swap Force for around the $120 mark only to see it still sitting on the shelves months later being offered for a quarter of that price.
But most things at EB Games are over priced. The strategy guide sells there for $39, yet I picked it up in a bookstore in the same shopping centre as my local store for $25 earlier today. Their standard starter packs are $99 compared to $69 elsewhere. Trap Masters are $3 more on average than other stores the list just goes on. As the dark starter pack is an EB Games exclusive here they can get away with charging more for it to a point, but my local store has a lot left. According to the guys working there they believe it's because people got burnt paying full price last year. Once bitten and all that. But for me it was simple maths. I can buy a starter pack for $69 elsewhere compared to $119.95 for the dark starter pack at EB Games. And what for? That's an extra $51 for Wildfire and the Kaos trap. So personally I will wait and see but for those that have purchased at full price I hope stock sells out making it a good decision to have brought now. |

I haven't really seen many Dark editions. I bought my PS3 version at best buy. They were the only store that had any for all the systems. My TRU only had 3 XBOX 360 ones at launch and none of the targets, walmarts or gamestops had any at all. It's hard to tell what is really limited or exclusive...most of the limited and exclusive stuff for skylanders has been on the shelves for a long time. More than enough time to wait and buy. It's the stuff like Dark light Crypt, Boomer, Fire Bone Hot Dog...that you don't expect to be hard to find, and then you wait too long.

A year after Swap Force's launch in the UK, I can still buy a Dark Edition. I'm not concerned about Trap Team Dark Edition selling out.

Where i live, there are no Dark Editions that weren't preordered. I preordered six dark editions Andy local best but is the only place that got them in. I've been to many stores and none had them readily available on shelves. I think this one will be harder to find as time goes on.

Last year's Dark Edition isn't a good example and can be misleading. It was only available at one store. Gamestop had an abundance of the Wii version, a decent amount for XBox 360 and PS3 and if you didn't preorder the WiiU edition early, you missed out. You can still find the Wii version fairly easy, but probably not on the rest. I got the WiiU one last year, and my Gamestop tried to hand me the Wii version, before I pointed it out and they realized that my lone WiiU one was in the stack.
This year, every store got them (at least for pre-orders). I was going to hold out until Black Friday, but when I found out they didn't have all that many and TRU had that last minute deal where I got the Nightmare Express Legendary Pack for free with it, I took the plunge. They had all the Dark Editions behind the counter, and had a good amount for walk ins, but not a huge number (and none of any type for the XBOne). They definitely had less Wii versions than previous years of both types. I get the feeling that it isn't going to be restocked in huge numbers, and the cutbacks on the Wii means there will be less around for people to pick up down the road. So in the end, they will likely be harder to find despite wider release. In general, I've noticed they definitely paid attention to last year's stocking and made big changes. They had many less Triple Packs and Adventure Packs, the Legendary one they didn't have all that many and sold out the first night. I'm sure they will get more soon, but it is a big change from the cases and cases of Tower of Time, Fiery Forge and Triples they couldn't give away last year. They are taking a much more measured, reactionary approach this time to avoid shelf glut. I think it is good, because it will cause much more shelf churn than the shelf warmers of years past. After three years, they have a pretty good handle on what people want. |

my understanding, is that they specifically taylored to pre-orders this time. Last year they flooded the market. So they made few extras.

I went to my Walmart today and I don't think I saw ANY dark editions... in fact, I think I only saw one measly regular TT starter on the top shelf. I'm assuming they probably flew off the shelves quickly because the game just came out; I didn't get to take a better look at what was on the shelf though, as I only passed by.

I'm torn.
Everyplace I've gone has an 'almost overstock' of Dark sets, and they seem popular this time around since they aren't an exclusive. So my initial thoughts are "You have time", I don't expect a 'true' restock or for them to be 'kept' in stores, but I think there are enough, coupled with the extra interest leadding to possible some more being restocked (though not much) - to the point that you should be fine 'up to Black Friday'. They might do a restock special on Black Friday to get through the holidays, but that would be it. If its something you want, ESPECIALLY with the sales going on right now...do whatever you have to, to get it now, but if you can't/don't you should be OK for a bit. - Unreall |

Wasn't it supposed to be Gearshift that was tailored for preorders and exclusive to preorders until general release in 2015? Now Gearshift is everywhere. |

Here is the thing though, Black Friday sales are typically on items stores are expected to have. I doubt there is going to be a consistent supply, and stores are loathe to advertise discounts on items that they might not have (in fact laws are around pertaining to this). At best you could hope that a store has a $XX discount on "All Trap Team Starter Packs", but I doubt any will mention it specifically since it really was only a pre-order thing. They may not even include the Dark Edition in their sales, so even if you wait - it might not be on sale. That was on my mind when I had to decide between a free Adventure Pack and pay full price today, or wait and maybe get a discount on Black Friday. A bird in hand is worth three in the bush ...

Depends on the scalpers...If the dark packs don't make them any money, there will be plenty languishing on the shelves...but if they can piecemeal sell the items in the dark starters or the whole thing for some bucks, normal folk will never see them.
I'd like a dark starter...but if it doesn't happen retail, it's not going to. I called all around an they are all out in my area. The only reason I even prefer it is because my kid thought Wildfire looks cooler...and upon review, Kaboom might not be out for a half year (or at least well after my kid's birthday AND Christmas) based on historical releases....soooo...

Buy it now from TRU. If it's around for sale around Black Friday, you can buy it at a lower price and return the one you get for full price right now (90 day return policy). This way you're covered either way.

Like others have said. It's basically a toss up. My area has 3 gamestops, 4 walmarts, 2 targets, 1 best buy and one TRU. I went to all the stores early on launch day, Trap Team wasn't flying off the shelves at any of them (and wasn't stocked at any of the walmarts, and 1 target). I have been back to each store at least once, some more. The only place I have seen Dark editions is Best Buy (which had a limited quantity, but at least one of each system) and TRU had (3) 360 dark editions and that's it. To me it doesn't seem like it's going to be in wide release, it might be one of those items that just shows up randomly every once and awhile and then it probably won't be the system you're looking for. I picked it up at BB just in case I don't see it again. I still had $30 in gift cards from Christmas to put towards it and wanted Volcanic Eruptor, so it was an easy decision for me. I think the price point is way too high, so I understand people's dillemas in that regard.
