This is an entry from Activision support ( https://support.activision.com...s=Search&pn=1#2 ) :-

Q. I’ve completed a Villain Quest and upgraded my Villain, but when I place the Villain in another Trap, it’s not upgraded.
A. The upgrades are saved onto the Traps themselves, not the Villains. For example, if you place an Evolved Villain in a different Trap, he won't be Evolved, but if you replace him in the original Trap, he will be.

What they don't say is what happens if you:

  • upgrade a villain in a trap,
  • then put a different villain in that trap and upgrade him as well,
  • then replace the first villain in the trap.

Does the trap remember the upgrade status of both, or only the latest?

Does anyone Down Under know the answer yet, please?

Every Trap toy remembers EVERY Villain it has ever had in it, AND their full status including Evolved status, special-case variant (like Outlaw Brawl and Chain), Nickname, Hat, and Trinket. Switching Villains will not make it forget the status of other Villains used in that same trap.

This means if you got the pre-order Outlaw Brawl and Chain and then Evolved him, then gave him a Nickname, a Hat, and a Trinket, then switched that water trap to have Gulper, when you switched back to Brawl and Chain he would actually become Evolved Outlaw Brawl and Chain w/ Nickname+Hat+Trinket again. However if you captured Brawl and Chain into another trap he hadn't been in before, he would be normal Brawl and Chain, unevolved with no nickname, hat, or trinket.

That make sense?

EDIT: Strangely there's no Reset option on traps though, so once you've Evolved a Villain in a trap, you can never go back to the un-evolved version (like say you preferred the look). You are stuck with the Evolved version forever unless you buy a new trap toy. It also means if you gift a Trap to a friend or relative, whenever they capture a villain with it they will automatically already be evolved and there's no way around it, so it makes Traps not have the same resell value of normal figures that can be reset.

That's a great relief - thanks for the fast reply!

Wait, I need some help here, I haven't really kept up with the trap team game like I did with the first 3 versions. I am winging it with this one as I help my son with through the game and of course spend the $$$ for the game. I am in the process and already have purchased all the available traps. I thought you had to buy each trap to get a villain, but looking at what I am reading above, it seems that you can catch multiple villains of the same type on the same trap? Is that correct? My son ran into this problem yesterday and I had no idea what tell him. He captured two Tech villains and he freaked out cause he couldn't find the first one he captured and then he deleted the whole game to start over thinking this would erase everything, but I had to remind him that the trap should remember all the information. Mind you he is only 7. I know this might be explained on another forum list, but any help would be appreciated so I can explain to him tonight. I also just bought a bunch of new traps for him today so he keep capturing new villains. Maybe I can return them now. ....

The villains captured are stored in the villain vault, but the traps themselves only remember upgrades, nicknames, etc of the villains.

You only need 1 trap of each element to capture every villain in the game. When you capture a second villain with the same trap, you can go to the Vault in the Hub (Academy) to switch which villain is in that trap at any time.

Oh man, thanks so much everyone. As usual, I come here for questions and get answers!! So the various types of traps is another marketing ploy and for activision to get us to spend more cash, nice, I am all for collecting, but sometimes I gotta put a stop to it,

Yeah there's almost no reason at all to buy more than one trap of each element. The only time its useful is if you wanted to have access to more than one Villain of the same element within the same story mission. If you can live with not having both Broccoli Guy and Chompy Mage available within the same level (meaning in that case you have to play through a certain level twice in order to get both of their upgrades, since both of their quests happen to be on the same mission) then there's absolutely no reason to buy extra traps of the same element.
