Well me personally I said I was going to get one of each element for the traps. But when I got them today I really liked them and I don't think that they would release a toy and then in the next games not being able to use them. So I'm going to get all of the traps. How about you ? Are you getting things that you said you won't ?

Still not sure how many traps I'll get. The plan is standard Kaos + 2 per element (3 for water/tech/life, since they have 2 additional villains), but I might get one trap for each doom raider as well, making it 2 magic, 4 water/life/tech and 3 for the rest. Or even more... but I'm definitively not getting more traps than there are villains available, that would be completely stupid in my opinion.
I'm also not sure about minis, but I'm getting each of the other new non-variant Skylanders (though I'm not particularly interested in all of them, but that's always the case). Still a while to wait for the Europe release, though.

Phoenix Crystal is the best unreleased Crystal. Skylanders Academy Season 2 was an improvement. I don't know what to think of Skylanders' future. |

I think I'll just be getting one trap of each element; it's all I'll really need. I won't be getting any of the Minis, unless I don't have the regular character already (that leaves Bop, Small Fry, and Pet-Vac, although I'm already planning to get S2 Fryno).

my original plan was to get one of each trap sculpture, and not really worry about what element they were beyond having one of each element.
but now i'm actually having the traps in my hand, i'm starting to lean towards wanting to get all 6 per element, they really look nice sitting on their own shelf in my skylanders display, at least they do to me. i might wait till they are a bit cheaper to start getting the others though, i wish somewhere here did a sale like the TRU one America had.

I didn't initially want to buy launch traps, but I did because of the sale.
I was going to just buy each bird (I like birds) and some other neat molds like the TFB logo rocket and snake. But I really like how they turned out. Crystal clear, no wavy cracks like some plastics, the mold lines blend in seamlessly.

I'll be picking up 1 of each trap plus variant traps. I already have 2 life torch and 2 of the water log holder. 1 standard + 1 for the variant.

I changed my plan, I went from buying a few of this and that, to buying damn near everything, I actually went BACK to TRU to get more after playing the game (liked it way more than I thought I would)

I'm hoping they continue to release trap triple packs, it would entice me to purchase more traps. Otherwise, two or three for each element should do the job. Then when everyone clears out the collections before the next game (as seems to happen around here) I'll grab up extra traps at dirt cheap prices in bulk

I bought one of each element. Honestly, out of everything, my 4 year-old has probably enjoyed the traps the most. He's been studying the trap holder that came with the starter organizing his traps accordingly. I wasn't planning on buying more than 8 but seeing new sculpts coming out and how cheap they are comparatively, it's tough to pass up. Also, I'm hoping that whatever Skylanders 5 holds, that it doesn't ditch the traps.

I hope it doesn't ditch the traps either. I love them awesome new power! I don't think they would release something and then make it not work in other future games. Nice plans everyone !

You could look at traps as a cheaper way to acquire new characters.
However, I'm on the same boat, one per element and Kaos. I got the Dark Starter plus the two three packs, so other than light/dark traps if they exist, I'm done. Traps can be re-used to try out all the different ones, and although we may miss out on "evolved" forms of some villains I'm not too worried about it. I also kind of like the idea of traps being a limited resource instead of just having one for every villain. Traptanium is supposed to be rare after all ... Not to mention having to have a case to remind me of which villain is stored in which is a bit of a bummer. |

Having one trap of each element will not make you miss out on "evolved" forms - in fact it will make it easier to deal with them. Each individual trap toy remembers all villains that it has ever captured and stores their "evolved" status in the trap itself (rather than in the game). When you re-capture the same villain in the same trap (including via the Vault) it will restore their "evolved" status (as well as their Nickname, Hat, and Trinket). This means if you have only one water trap and you Evolve every Water Villain with that one trap, than any time you switch villains with that same trap they will always be evolved. However, if you have multiple Water traps and you use them willy nilly, then you might have the Evolved version of a villain on one trap but the other trap doesn't, and you'll have to do their quest twice to get them evolved on both traps, or just keep track of which trap has the Evolved version of that villain and which does not. This also means if you have a "special edition" trap like Outlaw Brawl and Chain you can still use it to capture and store other villains, and any time you switch back to the special villain (i.e. switch back to Brawl and Chain) that particular trap will remember that you had the special version and you'll have Outlaw again. Some people were afraid if they used that trap to capture any other villain that they'd lose the special "Outlaw" tag, but you don't - it doesn't list him any differently in the game, but any time you use that same trap to re-capture him or grab him from the vault, he'll always be the "Outlaw" version. The only time having one of each element is a problem, besides perhaps the desire to switch between more than one villain of the same element while in the same level, is the few times where a single level has more than one villain quest for the same element. That makes you need to play through the level twice to evolve both of them with your single trap. Fortunately the levels are much shorter and more entertaining than in Swap Force (IMHO) so this isn't a big deal. It almost seems like the game was designed around the idea that most people will have only one trap of each element... The one downside to this overall system is that for some reason there's no Reset option on Traps, which means that if you prefer the look of an un-evolved Villain, you can't revert them without buying a new trap (deleting your save game won't help because the Evolved status is stored on the trap toy itself and as I just explained switching to another Villain with the same trap doesn't delete the data on previous villains that trap held). I kinda do wish I had more than one Life trap though, seems like Life got multiple amazing and hilarious villains - Sheep Creep (rapid-fire at very long range is somewhat rare for a villain), Broccoli Guy (heals), and Chompy Mage (very powerful at taking out whole rooms at once in his giant chompy form stomp attack). There are times I wish I could bring more than one of these guys with me at once. Hmmm... |

Toys R Us's buy one get one for $1 sale pretty much sealed the deal in terms of owning all traps. Got 28 single pack traps between Wave 1 and 2 from that sale alone.

Nope 8 traps, one per element, plus Kaos. And I'm buying that begrudgingly.
It irks me that the traps are generic as opposed to likenesses of the villains. There is not much value in these IMO especially not for $7 each. I don't want my purchases to reinforce the notion that I will buy TFB's half hearted attempts at making toys. I also hope they don't get it into their minds to keep making ancillary accessories (besides actual Skylander figures) that we will NEED to buy in order to experience the full game. I hope that most consumers feel the same way I do, and vote with their dollars the way I will. |

I'm still waiting to hear if traps are a one and done to buy anymore than what we got at launch, I'd feel like a chump if I bought them all and then they can't be used in Skylanders 5.
